Clippers trade CP3 to Rockets

He was going to opt out and just sign with HOU. But he decided to help the Clippers out and opt-in and agree to a trade instead.
Why though? That's the part I can't understand. He's showing loyalty? And why wouldn't the Rockets just say, "fuck that, why do WE have to give up assets? Just sign with us and let's move on." Must be a cap thing for the Rockets?

Never mind. ***hitting myself in the face yelling "read the whole thread before responding idiot"***

How do Rockets have cap space for this transaction without releasing Anderson?

Dude... check out how good my photoshop skills are!

Harden had his best year ever playing point guard, so Morey trades for a point guard. Seems weird, but could be interesting.

He was excellent on the fastbreak, and pretty good in the halfcourt. CP3 makes them excellent in either tempo, plus he's a way better scorer than Beverly.

Ya because Collins is already an established NBA All Star like Blake Griffin.
No, because we are still not even clear to being good enough to win the championship and honestly I don't even like the idea of Griffin here.

And this allows CP3 to sign his mega-max next year.

I don't think it makes Houston all that better. Harden and Paul aren't great at playing without the ball. Is Harden and Paul having the ball 50% of the time with the other on the wing really better than Harden having the ball 100% of the time?

CP3 is the killer Houston needs for the playoffs, he will be the guy in the 4th. The amount of flopping we will see with this backcourt though...

Oh god....... the flop twins.

And if Doc Rivers went to Houston to coach..... the joining of everything I hate about the NBA would be complete.

And part of minimizing that risk is that collins could end up being trash.

Collins could be better, or he could be a dud. At least with blake you know what you're getting. An all star level player.
At least with Blake we know we're getting a great regular season PF and an injured Pf for the playoffs. I'll pass and take my chances with Collins.

Which is why I REAAAAAALLY hope they trade for LA!!

Yeah that won't happen since the word now is that CP3 hates Doc Rivers over turning down a proposed trade last year for Melo that included his son. A media guy ( Mike Eaves ) who previously hosted Clippers Live said that Austin felt entitled on the team and rubbed everyone the wrong way. Doc gave him special treatment that pissed off CP3

I hope we get to play the Clippers in the playoffs now....if they even make it

What does this do, if anything, to our back courts position as top 2 or 3 in the league?

It's theoretically better--Harden is an excellent shooter, Paul is a very good one, and both have to be accounted for because even off the ball they could be the true initiator if the current action is a decoy. The question is how much better and whether D'Antoni will scheme creative enough sets to maximize their ball-dominant skillsets.

The worst case scenario is that they don't improve much on offense (because their skillsets prove to be redundant) and they get a bit worse on defense (Paul is a very good defender, but arguably not as good as Beverly) and there are tensions over the course of the season.
