OT Comcrap is coming on Saturday

If you build it yourself and wait for part sales you could probably get one for not that much more than that new 4k Xbox.
I'm not smart enough to build my own, I'll get frustrated and start cursing relentlessly at it like I did when I was building my daughters crib when she was a baby

Yes, they have to come out for that to activate your modem. I got PS Vue. Downloaded an app for my Sony Bravia smart TV. Works great, but a little more clunky than a regular cable/DVR setup. I can also stream on my PC and phone.

Good. You're my go to guy for questions. :chestbump:

Go to ENU in Portland... I did all the research and bought all my parts there, and they put it all together for $20. SO worth it.

Just watch some youtube diy videos. If you don't want to do that you could probably get a prebuilt around black friday for some money off, but some of the components in those aren't great.

Connect your PS4 to the router with an Ethernet cable if possible. Also, be irritated to be about 30 seconds behind the forum.

It's super easy putting a desktop together. I just cant stand using a desktop nowadays.

How much do you charge?

I don't have service. They're coming to install. Don't they have to come out for that? Is this something I can do without somebody coming?

The only reason why I had tech support come out is because the cable box was deemed a pass by the spoke when it obviously failed the test.(being that I had a summer job testing at the spoke that used to exist off of 217, I knew all the technical terms)
I've never had someone come out to activate my box/internet service outside of that, no matter where I lived.
Only called in once everything was installed properly for them to ping my line.

Also @dviss1 I do know a tactic used by comcast sales is to not tell customers they're able to set things up themselves, then have their boxes ping'd.
It's more $ for them if they send tech support out.
Unless there is something I'm missing completely, I don't see a reason why tech support would need to come out to set up a new service. I've never had them come out to set up new service unless it was a failure on their end.

Yeah man, the only time i've had comcast come out is when they needed to install or fix a cable line at my place. Otherwise i just get the self install kit and call in everything myself.

How does one initiate service without having them come out?

Well you'd need to pick up the equipment you're renting from comcast, at your local comcast distributor.
(for me it's by the mcminnville air museum) but I'm sure there is one in Portland.
Set it up, then call in to customer support and have your line ping'd.
Just make sure the wires are connected properly. Otherwise it won't work.

Comcast would prefer you to do a self install as long as the dwelling is ready for it. They save more money by not sending the tech out.

By the way, the self install and is a pretty simple task. If you know the location has had services recently before, I agree with honki. You should save yourself some money. But if it's had satellite or something else recently. You should let them do it

I believe your account will be charged on your first bill for the service request yes.
Unless I'm missing something entirely. But if it's just an install, you will be charged for having someone come out.

So instead, I can call them, schedule a time to pick up the router, and install it myself while customer service is on the line?

That's what I do when I set up new equipment.
Pick it up at the local comcast distributor, go home hook it up. Then call them to ping my line.
I don't even think you need to schedule a time to pick it up. Just go grab it.
The lobby's in beaverton & mcminnville remind you of the DMV. but.. It's better than having comcast charge you for equipment setup.

Does PS Vue get you NBATV? That's what you'll probably need to watch summer league games.

There is a location on Sandy Blvd

When I got Comcast installed here, which I love, my installer gave me a card with his cell number for any questions.

Good luck. Life needs to be easy sometines.

Speak for yourself. My parents have something like a $300 package from Comcast, and they've had nothing but problems with it. It works most of the time....except that time when you really need it.
