A few of my thoughts. I would love a serious conversation in this nation about gun violence, where well studied models are used to determine what options could lead to an actual impact in the violence. I am not pro or con gun control, i would just love to see what options there are from people without an agenda.

Personally I doubt with all the guns that are currently available that any limitations will truly lead to a lessoning of gun violence, but if the studies showed that to be the case, I could support limitations on gun ownership.

But what I believe is that the most important action that can actually be taken is more education of the public about warning signs, and most importantly, a fundamental change in how we recognize and treat psychologically fucked up people. Get to people early before gun violence comes into play. Raise the standard of living of the lower class in this nation. Some of this has to do with day to day gun violence and some has to do with rampage gun violence, but we must start looking at this comprehensively.

I campaign against pit bulls every day. A very nice and well-raised one nearly ripped my sister's jaw off. People who think they're cuddly and perfectly normal are on some level deluded.

Sorry, but that is bull-dada. I have owned 3 part Pit Bulls....and not one was aggressive. If Dobys or Rottys were raised the same way some Pits are, they would be equally as dangerous.

Look online there are references to Aspergers and autism with the Virginia tech shooter, Jared loughner, Colorado theater shooter and one of the columbine guys too..looking into this more

You must be right; I guess my aunt abused the pit bull that clamped its teeth into my 8-year old sister's jaw and shook her like a rag doll.

I don't know the facts of the case. I would be inclined to take a hard look at the breeder.

The point is, I would feel bad for your sister regardless of the breed of dog that injured her. I have heard of similar instances involving Rottys, German Shepards and St Bernards. The St Bernard ( who attacked the sister of a friend) was owned by NUNS...they didn't abuse the dog either. The vet who put the dog down and examined it found organic brain damage caused by irresponsible inbreeding.

Gotta wonder if its related...all these shooters seem eerily similar..similar demographics and perhaps Aspergers diagnosis or missed diagnosis......yet all of a sudden looking into them gets distracted by the red herring of gun control

There is a big political agenda behind autism and Aspergers I just texted my friend who is a child psychiatrist and he said they are taking Aspergers out of the DSM next year

Maybe so. It was an interesting event; my parents took my sister to the hospital (this is in the sticks, Lakeview, OR) while my grandfather shot the dog (completely docile again like nothing had happened) in the head with his hunting rifle. My aunt gave her permission. So we'll never know what happened.

It hits an interesting intersection of experiences and feelings: I love animals (as does my grandfather; we have a similar affinity for dogs in particular), and I love my sister of course. I love the doctor who did his best work reconstructing her jaw with well over 200 microstitches; she barely has a scar. When I calm down enough about it to think rationally, it's just a tragic occurance. But I'll never own a pit, or suggest the breed to anyone. I don't argue with people who insist the breed is fine or no more violent than any other because what good does it do? It's all emotion versus statistics. They're always better prepared. But my sister had a horrible experience and my grandfather felt he had to shoot his daughter's dog because of it.

The brain loves to find patterns... I'd hesitate to make assumptions... but yeah, all killers are basically the same after they kill a bunch of folks.
