I don't know anybody who has claimed the president or governors can "force people to stay indoors". Nobody is arguing that everybody should be under house arrest. That's a red herring

I also can't recall any claims that the current stay at home orders are unconstitutional. Some people really don't like the orders, but there's strong legal precedent affirming the constitutionality. If a stay at home order highly arbitrary and extremely broad, there is a legal avenue to challenge it. But I haven't evidence that any stay at home order fits that description. Michigan's might have some really weird provisions but I'm not sure if there's some right-wing fake news at work there or not
You aren’t in California.

Stay home except for essential needs
Everyone in California is required to stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job. If you go out, stay at least 6 feet away from other people and wear a cloth face covering.

The stay-home order began Thursday, March 19, 2020 and is in place until further notice.”

they arrested someone paddle boarding all by himself.

that's just the summary. If you follow the links to the details of that order you'd find:

" So long as you are maintaining a safe social distance of six feet from people who aren’t part of your household, it is ok to go outside for exercise, a walk or fresh air. Gyms are closed."

" You can walk your dog. You can go to the vet or pet hospital if your pet is sick. Remember to distance yourself at least six feet from other pets and owners."

" Californians can walk, run, hike and bike in their local neighborhoods as long as they continue to practice social distancing of 6 feet. This means avoiding crowded trails & parking lots."

" You may leave your home to obtain prescriptions or get cannabis from a licensed cannabis retailer
"

it's restrictive, just like Oregon's stay at home order, but it doesn't seem onerous

as for the paddle-boarder, he was arrested for violating lawful orders of a lifeguard who told him to get out of the water. That's completely justifiable because if the paddle-boarder got into trouble and needed rescue, that would potentially expose the lifeguard to the virus. Essentially, the guy was arrested for being an asshole

So the question... Is this violating our civil rights?

Wasn’t his major policy platform.

It was definitely a major plank of his platform. Health care was a huge issue in 2016 too. He made a very big deal about how he was going to replace Obamacare with something terrific for everyone.

Also, as any policy, it must be passed in congress so.... I guess we’ll see in less than 8 months right?

Sure, we can wait and see.

They were 1 yes away from doing it to. But I was against the repeal and replace ObamaCare. As I wrote above. That was a big policy difference I had.

Gov. Brown is impeding covid-19 testing and its not right!
She's been sitting on test kits with to stiff of guidelines for testing, it's not an inventory issue but a policy issue. She needs to use the test kits and ramp up our lagging position as compared to Washington & CA.

I read the OLive article and the question I have is if Oregon ramped up testing would we then continue to have the inventory of tests replenished at a rate that would continue the higher rate of testing. In other words, would the state quickly run out of tests with a higher testing rate?

the article didn't discuss that

as for a comparison to California and Washington

tests/1 million:

Washington - 18,604
Oregon - 9,207
California - 6,294

total-tests for every positive:

Oregon - 20.4
Washington - 11.5
California - 8.0

Washington got a 'head start' on testing because it was the first big hot spot in the Seattle area. Even with that it has 6.4 times as many cases, 8.7 times as many deaths, but only twice as many tests per capita

She also put the stops on tracing a month ago because she admitted they couldn't keep up the effort for lack of manpower which is something she should have been addressing and now its part of the gate criteria hat both Washington and CA. are using.

that I don't about, but I'm not sure exactly how she could be "addressing" the issue if there's a manpower shortage

Really? So can you assemble for church? Can a Democrat or Republican Party have a rally? Or can a party assemble for signing people up?

Who cares about rallies when lives are more important? Only trump cares about getting his cult sick.

Churches can do virtual gatherings.

If you want people to live, you abide by the orders. If you dont care about people, you break the orders. Tells me a lot about the character of a person who wants to fight the orders. Priorities are fucked.

No sir, the government cannot infringe on our 1st Amendment right to assemble.

Nowhere did I mention if I agree with their assembly.

How easy we forget how many have died throughout history trying to achieve the civil liberties we have that no other country in history has had, but all their people have wanted.

To just toss it away for this is a slap in the face to the millions who have died over time trying to get to where we are .

There is never a more important time to maintain civil liberties than during a state of emergency.
