OT Coronavirus: America in chaos, News and Updates. One million Americans dead and counting

A lot of people are saying "I can't breathe" with these masks on. My coworker said it casually yesterday.

Obviously, they are using those words since BLM is too.

Your co-worker casually said they were choking to death? Relatable.

Anyway, there's a bit of a difference between casual conversation and a politician doing a publicity stunt. One of the two is far more likely to be mocking political opponents.

Yeah as long as you don’t blame it on mass gatherings of protesters though, right? Must have been people going to church. Fucking racists.

what are you talking about?

just to review, in response to somebody talking about hospitals nearing capacity and being in trouble, you said:

"Cases have increased quite a bit in the last few days if you haven’t noticed."

and I responded that the increase in cases was easily predicted...and had been predicted for weeks. There was not one bit of surprise to these spikes in many parts of the country; except for maybe the surprise to those willfully ignorant of consequences

I'm sure protests may have contributed to those spikes, although evidence for that is slim. But the main contributor has been relaxing stay-at-home and social distancing orders while re-opening way too many businesses. The spikes are due to ignorance, arrogance, deceit, and blindly stupid political defiance

Define prepared? trump said we were prepared before and look how that worked out. Listen to the doctors, listen to the scientists, don't listen to trump and this administration.

@tlongII didn't quote Trump. He quoted the Governor of Texas. Your Trump statements are irrelevant. Sorry. Not sure if you caught that or not.

No, she said literally "I can't breathe" and then pulled the mask down under her nose.

Guess which city this was:
Washington-HoustonGeorgeFloydProtest.jpg
Nearly every single person there is wearing masks.

No, but if people are wearing masks are you more likely or less likely to be infected if social distancing is ignored?

I would think less likely.

Those that supported the protests, probably think otherwise. Unless they can admit that these protests increased the likelihood of spreading coronavirus.

I mean, if protests were ok, then having a graduation or a funeral or event outside should be fine. Large public gatherings, as long as you wear masks, should be fine. If it doesn't cause a spike in cases or is tolerable, they

So we can ignore social distancing if we wear masks?
of course not. i kept saying the protests will result in more cases and spikes. repeatedly in our thread here about the protests, i have been on this about covid not going anywhere

but im happy to see so many masks. wish the boomers i see at the grocery stores here in the midwest would do that

I agree.

There were protests in Houston smart guy.

How bout those massive protests in union county oregon. Where 1/4 of the population got the virus.

Most protestors I’ve seen are wearing masks. Pretty much all of them.

And I’m not pro protestor or anti protestor. I don’t really have a strong opinion on them either way.

You quoted the governor of Texas.

The hospitals themselves are struggling.

Just because you designate a room ICU doesn't mean the patient in it is receiving an ICU standard of care.

The amount of personnel required for an ICU patient is considerably higher.

That's why it's called Intensive Care.

Hospitals in Texas are putting out the call for additional medical personnel outside of the state.

They're having trouble finding that personnel.

Interviewing, background and license checks, and hiring takes time.

Also you're putting new employees in an overworked and overtaxed medical situation.

While sure, it's great that more hospital beds are being labeled ICU, there is no guarantee the patients are receiving the ICU level of care they desperately need.

So now you want to move the goalposts?

So now you want to move the goalposts?

No, not at all. I'm just explaining that this is a much more complex situation than just running out or adding additional beds.

It's similar to if there were suddenly a huge increase in house fires in Portland so the mayor says we've added a bunch more fire trucks to fight the fires without also adding more firefighters for those trucks. Do they remove firefighters from other trucks leaving all the trucks under staffed?

More ICU beds are great! Not denying that. But ICU stands for Intensive Care, not Intensive Bed. People are being placed in ICU beds because they need additional intensive care. The bed isn't what heals these patients, it the staff that comes with these beds that does.

Yes it was me. And it’s true.

Sorry, but if hospitals are having to turn away other patients in order convert beds to take on even more covid patients instead, they are not "in good shape".

...you're in denial...wake the fuck up.

My test was negative.

I apparently have a cold. Weird, since I rarely catch colds, have been around others far less than usual, and wear a mask.

Lucia doesn't have to look for a new human.
Not trying to be a Debbie downer or a negative Nancy but I have heard a lot of the tests are inaccurate and that's the problem. It's always best to get a 2nd test just just to make sure.

I'm really glad you didn't develop cat allergies too....that would've been a game changer for you...glad to hear you tested negative for the virus....I get tested Sunday morning
