Typical inefficient State of Oregon bureaucracy, cannot roll out a reasonable sign up for seniors 80 and over, left many hanging for hours. Very typical. Hell, the governor probably thought they were all done, like she thought all senior facilities were when in fact she didn't know and was winging it. What a mess...

My 92 year-old mother-in-law was able to snare an appointment at the Convention Center for tomorrow. I couldn’t believe her luck given how screwed up the system is. I think she should head to Vegas to play the slots after she’s immune.

Got my appointment notification! I actually have to postpone a couple of weeks since I just got a Shingrix vaccine this week but I'm scheduled. Don't usually get excited about a needle stuck into me.

It was pure dumb luck except that I saw that they were going to start taking appointments at 9:00 am instead of noon as had been published in the Oregonian the day before. My mother-in-law had no clue how lucky she was. When she called to tell us she said that her appointment was a little late in the day and maybe she should call back to reschedule. Ha!

1. Go to the Oregon Convention Website. Use the link there for signing up for vaccine.

2. Sign up for a My Health account, do that for your mom as soon as you can. If you wait to do it once you see that there are appointments available, by the time you sign up the appointments will be gone.

3. After you have a My Health account for your mom just keep checking the OCC site throughout the day.

4. Very strong chance that there will be cancellations Friday through Monday due to weather. If you can get to her and then get to the OCC in bad weather start refreshing the appointment website a ton on those days.

If you would have seen appointments times there and hadn't signed your mom up for a MyHealth account yet by the time you did sign up for a MyHealth account those appointment times would have most likely been taken.

It's my understanding that they release appointment times for the new week on Monday's but because of possible bad weather these upcoming days if someone reschedules their appointment time will be immediately made available.

If you see it start snowing in the next couple of days and can get to your mom and get her to the convention center you should start refreshing the appointment site often because there should be cancelations. It was a cancelation that Mrs SPD was able to get her mom an appointment today for this afternoon.

Its a joke that in the 21st century, with state of the art distribution software the private industry uses, the State of Oregon cannot keep pace with technology that equates to efficiency and superb service. Oh, that right they don't have any competition or performance marks to consider. I dealt with the State of Oregon for decades and they were always behind when it came to logistics and process.
