Though I always thought the vaccine mandates were silly for event attendance (Vax status impacts one's body's response to the vaccine much, much more than its ability to spread the virus), I never railed against it because businesses always have a right to determine who they let in.

It was the mandates for employment that always bothered me, and even moreso now. How many people lost their jobs less over a requirement that within less than six months was deemed no longer important enough to remain a requirement?
After 6 months we have enough immunity built up that it's no longer as important.

It's a changing situation.

Whose immunity has been built up over that time? The vaccinated already had built up immunity through the vaccines. So are you saying that the firing of the unvaccinated was to protect the unvaccinated from the unvaccinated?

Our immunity as a society. A higher percent of the population has either been infected or vaccinated so the risk of a business being shut down due to covid-19 is far lower than it was 6 months ago.

I woke up this am with a headache from hell and a slight fever. First thing wife said was take a test of which she mailed for, I told her I think its allergies as they have kicked my ass before. So if Im not better in a couple days I will take a test, instead I just took a Zyrtec and they make me feel like crap too.

I can say one thing for certain. Masks work, plain and simple. The last time I sneezed or coughed was February of ‘20. No joke. And I obviously travel like crazy all over the world. Masks work.

I disagree. Especially with respect to cloth masks. Cloth masks do very little to prevent you from getting a viral infection.

Then why haven’t I had the flu a simple common cold or even my normal allergy symptoms? Not a single cough or sneeze since I started wearing masks? Nothing? And as somebody who flies over 150K miles a year, I used to get sick all the time, even though I take an annual flu shot. Masks work my friend.

Well they do prevent the virus from being expelled as long of a distance as no mask. My guess is that you haven't been sick because others have been wearing masks.

But you can keep on wearing a mask as long as you wish. That is A-O-K with me!

Yes, as real-world examples showed, if vaccinated you can still get Omicron. But, and this is the important part, the chances of needing hospitalization or death with significantly reduced with those who were vaccinated vs the unvaccinated.
You don’t say?

I get a cough but occupational hazard of gardeners. Breathe in dust, pollen, mold spores.
But no Covid.

Are you one of those people that would look down on me and my family if we did?

Common sense - masks work. They're not perfect, but they obviously diffuse a significant amount of things you expel from your face. They're not perfect (hey, like a vaccine also is not perfect).

I'm not going to wear masks for everything and everywhere. But I'll wear them in airports. Chunks of flights. But you can't also let your body go sterile from viruses and bacteria - that's only going to make your body weaker. Ask the Native Americans.

Being vaccinated does not provide 100% protection.

Schools that required universal masking for adults and students saw 72 percent fewer secondary infections—in which students infected with COVID-19 in the community spread the virus to others in school—than did schools that had no mask requirements or partial masking.

Mask Mandates Cut COVID-19 Spread in Schools, Studies Find

Mask requirements still offer one of the strongest tools to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks in schools, say new studies.

The findings come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and from a nationwide study published this morning in the journal Pediatrics. They land as the latest pandemic wave recedes, federal masking guidelines begin to relax, and education leaders work toward more flexible approaches to masking for staff and students.

But the data offer the strongest evidence to date on the effectiveness of masking in curbing COVID spread in schools, regardless of whether or not students are vaccinated.

In the Pediatrics study, Duke University researchers in the ongoing ABC Science Collaborative—which tracks pandemic mitigation efforts in schools—analyzed masking policies and infection rates in 61 districts, more than 3,000 schools, and more than 1.1 million students and adults in nine states. For the first time, the national study looked at mitigation from July through December 2021, during the delta wave and the start of the omicron waves of the pandemic.

Schools that required universal masking for adults and students saw 72 percent fewer secondary infections—in which students infected with COVID-19 in the community spread the virus to others in school—than did schools that had no mask requirements or partial masking. Once school size, vaccination rates, and other characteristics were taken into account, schools with universal masking had nearly 90 percent lower infection rates.

Moreover, about half of the students and staff in the study had completed vaccination against COVID-19 by the end of the study, and Duke researchers found universal masking policies were associated with fewer infections even among those who were already vaccinated.

Starting Monday masks are optional in the PIL. My daughter told me she'll keep wearing hers though the end of the school year. Said majority of her friends will as well.

If she's vaxxed she should be fine.

“Just kidding, guys”
Just kidding about what? The numbers are pretty clear on this.
We now have far more immunity built up as most of the country has been vaccinated or exposed to covid-19.

Would you prefer they have a lifetime ban?

This wasn't some political stunt to remove the rights of the citizens as many claimed, as proven by the relaxing of restrictions and mandates.

These were logical emergency responses to a global pandemic.

All the whining, complaining and resistance just extended the pandemic longer and cost our economy more.
