Cousins

I think it’s kinda funny that some fans are worried about there being a logjam at the center position. Hey real quick, you aware of what team you root for? And since when is depth a bad thing anyway? I would love to worry about which healthy big is gonna get minutes. Don’t remember the last time that happened.

he’s still producing. His per/36 numbers are 17ppg, 13 rpg, 4 apg, 1.3 bpg. Also grades out well defensively and can knock down threes at a decent rate. I like Kanter but I’d rather have cousins. I don’t think people realize just how bad Kanters been defensively.
From what I have seen, DJJ and Covington are the two players that play defense.

Boogie has avg'd 12/9 with the Rockets as a starting center....and they lost all 7 games with him starting....Kanter has been a double double machine and as a starter has a winning record with our team.....Boogie would be welcome by me but he's not having a better season than Enes so far....he's serviceable and sure, he could help us but I'm not dumping Kanter for Boogie at this point if it's my choice.
Agree!

The bad news? Other teams—most notably Brooklyn—could pay Cousins significantly more than the minimum. The Heat, Celtics and Blazers, also expected to show interest in Cousins, could as well. This is a problem the Lakers will face with waived players in the coming months.
The amount a team can pay a player only matters IF the player clears waivers.

I'd expect that if Cousins is cut that some team will claim his contract on waivers - meaning Boogie doesn't get a say in the matter (and he will not get a pay raise).

The team claiming him would have to have the following:
1) open roster spot
2) a way to assume the full contract amount (Cousin is signed to a Min contract - so EVERY team not hard-capped can assume the contract).

From this article last month - here are the teams we'd be competing against.
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/01/nearly-half-of-nbas-teams-have-open-roster-spots.html
Teams with an open 15-man roster spot:
  • Brooklyn Nets
    • Note: The Nets have three open roster spots and will need to fill at least two of them within two weeks of completing the Harden trade.
  • Charlotte Hornets
  • Los Angeles Clippers *
  • Los Angeles Lakers *
  • Milwaukee Bucks *
  • Minnesota Timberwolves
  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Portland Trail Blazers
  • San Antonio Spurs
  • Toronto Raptors
  • Utah Jazz
  • Washington Wizards
Note: An asterisk (*) denotes that the team can’t currently sign a 15th man due to the hard cap.

If multiple teams try and claim his contract - then the team with the worst record gets the player.

So as much as I'd LOVE to get Boggie on the roster - it's not realistic.

****EDIT****
Although, it does appear that Boston & Miami do not currenlty have an open roster spot. And Portland & Brooklyn have almost identical records - so maybe there is hope (depending upon when he is cut)!

I guess Miami could just cut Meyers (since hes injured)....

no chance anyone claims cousins, even if it’s technically possible. He’s gonna go where he wants to.

Cousins seemed none to happy with Harden in Houston. I struggle to see him going to Brooklyn. But, who knows! Crazier things have always happened in this league

totally forgot about that lol, yeah why are they even listed as a favorite?

Lakers can’t really afford him.

I could see Miami, but if it came down to Miami or Portland, I would bet on him rolling with Dame.

My biggest doubt is actually Olshey.

Oshley cannot assemble a contending roster. The guy signed Toliver and Hezonja for fux sake.

Uh, he got our roster to the brink of contention just this past offseason.

good point on harden

Which reminds me of another center. 6 days after the Knicks bought out Kanter, Olshey signed him near the 2019 Midseason Trade Deadline.

I’d like Randle, Quickley and a pick for CJ then I’d trade Nurkic for Cousins, our 2021 #1 pick returned and Tucker

makes us very deep and we have a forward logjam to deal with after the season ends.

I don't think we're getting Quickley or a pick with Randle for CJ. I think Houston would do that deal but it kind of leaves us in a bad place at the 5 at the end of the season and if you could get both deals done, we'd have too many guys on the roster. So I know that all of that talent is good and we could just throw in Elleby but we'd have to do something like that. Again, I don't think there is any way we get more than Randle and Rivers for CJ and that's with no picks but maybe I'm undervaluing our guy or overvaluing Randle.

Let's pick up Meyers just for old times sake. I miss his exuberant attitude and confidence. This is a joke. .

Cousins is a shell of the player he used to be. He was never a defensive juggernaut, but after a blown ACL and torn Achilles, he’s essentially a statue. He’s got zero lift and no lateral movement ability. A pairing of Kanter and Boogie would be the worst defensive rotation at the 5 spot in NBA history.

History???
We once had Meyers Leonard on this team.
We also had a guy named Sean Marks as our starting center.

worse than Kanter and Melo?

worse than Kanter and Melo?

Melo isn’t a center on any team’s depth chart. He’s just the next tallest guy until either Giles or Nurk gets back. Find me another equally defensively dreadful planned center rotation than Kanter and the current edition of Boogie.

Boogie > Giles

Maybe, but current Boogie is not greater than Nurk. The original post I responded to proposed trading Nurk to Houston for Boogie, Tucker and our pick back. Not a fan of that idea at all. Getting Boogie on a cheap deal to help patch up the 5 spot lineup until Nurk returns? Sure, if we can stay under the LT threshold. A long term commitment to a regular diet of Kanter and Boogie at 5? Pass.

yeah I agree. Trading Nurk is a stupid idea that seemingly the same handful of people are pushing.

Silly me....I thought this thread was about marital traditions in Nashville!

I said “pairing”, as in first one and then the other as your center rotation.
Fair enough. In 2010-11 the Blazers had Sean Marks and Earl Barron with Fabrico Oberto after Joel Prybilla and Marcus Camby got hurt.
Top that one.... :smiley-hang:

I think they signed a 10 contract with Chris Johnson?

Officially been waived as of this morning according to Shams.
