CRABBE MATCHED

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Great that we are keeping our asset (Crabbe). He was a very good, if not the best, player off our bench last season.
For those, worried about his trade-ability.......he'll bring a similar salary in return....how is that Bad for us??
Yes, Neil will be stressed to figure out the financials between now and February. Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy a good bench on this team!!!

Yeah well, we know of one team out there who wants crabbie for that kinda money . . .

I assume you talk of BKN, but who knows if this is going to be true going forward. We were excited about Monroe last year and despite MIL shopping him hard (allegedly) - did not seem to care this year.

For the record, I really like Crabbe. Sticker shock is clear and present, but it is clear that Neil has a plan - I am sure he is more qualified to make these decisions than I am.

I imagine Harkless will be signed to something similar to Meyers.

We are really going all in with this team.

Dame / Napier
CJ / Crabbe / Pat / Montero
Turner / Harkless / Layman
Aminu / Davis / Vonleh
Plumlee / Ezeli / Leonard

There's a big boom potential with this team.
Ugh. Napier looks out of place on that list.

We play in Portland, Oregon. You have to do whatever it takes to retain your own assets and you have to overpay to get free agents to sign here. We should be feel very lucky that Paul Allen is our owner and has opened up his wallet for this roster. There was no way we were going to have cap room next summer regardless of Crabbe, or Meyers and Moe for that matter, so luxury tax really means nothing if your owner is willing to pay.
QFT. When Paul Allen sells the Blazers, the party will indeed be over.

So did Olshey wait until the 11th hour to match to punish the Nyets for fucking with our salary structure?

I'd have waited a longer.

Because now we are totally cap strapped in order to retain a bench player. Means we likely have to say goodbye to Harkless =(
I don't think so; he will sign for about the same as Leonard. I just hope NJ doesn't come back now with the same offer to Harkless as to Crabbe.

I think Harkless is a lot more similar to Thad Young, who they traded away. I don't think they will make an offer anywhere near Crabbe's that if they do call him up. Maybe 9 mil per at best.

That's too much for the current version of Crabbe. I love Crabbe, but he better improve a lot over the next 4 years... I'm happy he's still on the team though.

Oh dang! I liked watch Crabbe out there. Now I fear I will expected some marvelous stuff from him.

I imagine he was trying to see how much it was gonna cost to keep Meyers. They seemed to be focusing on that before they matched.

Lol the nyets lost out on crabbe and Tyler Johnson and are now "showing interest" in Anthony Bennett.
Haha. I'd rather have Cliff Alexander than Anthony Bennett, and I wasn't even upset when we cut him.

Not surprised they matched. It's a lot of money, but Neil and Terry have never been shy in praising what Allen brings to the team and their belief in his potential. Plus, when Turner mentioned how they liked how the two complemented each other, it gave me another strong indication that they would push hard retain him.

Although I hated on the Turner move initially, bringing Crabbe back has it making more sense to me now that there will be 2 plus shooters playing with him at all times in either Dame, CJ or AC.

Vuc just isn't worth giving up that much for though. He isn't that great offensively and he's not even as good a defender as Plumlee.

Let's also not forget Vuc's USG% is about the same as CJs, he wouldn't be an 18/9 guy here, I'd wager he'd be a 14/7 type center. I just don't get the hype around the guy, would I take him if the offer was cheap though (Say some combo of Davis/Vonleh/Pat/CLE pick)? Then sure.

So you think we can get Vucevic for garbage?
No matter how you spin it, Vuc was a borderline all-star for the last 2 years,he demands defensive attention from the other team while Plumlee can only dunk or pass and doing this move saves a ton of money for the franchise in the long run.

Of course, if Plumlee and Crabbe take a big step forward this season you can flush down the toilet all of my words on the subject

For me, this was the best news of the day.
Well, here is more on Crabbe's reaction;http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...ck_with_portland_trai.html#incart_river_index seems like he actually preferred to come back to Portland, he just needed to feel wanted. I almost got the impression that he didn't even realize all the ramifications of his quite massive contract and trade kicker (Harkless considering taking a qualifying offer, for one, constraints on the team going forward, possible discontent from other players). Maybe the guy is just not that "aware", shall we say? Or did Olshey fail here in explaining things to him; was he even able to contact him, should he have laid it all out before the free agent period began? Reading about Tim Duncan retiring today and thinking about the financial sacrifices he made over the years for the sake of the team; it seems we don't really have the same kind of culture here in Portland, and it's a little disappointing.

Asking the face of your franchise for the past decade to take less money after already making bank =/= asking a 2nd round role player to take less money during his prime. Come on.

Portland may well not have this type of culture, but no player has had enough of a connection to the city for it to be even possible (Well, LMA did....). Dame is the only player I can see in the future giving us a hometown discount, but it won't be until after this max extension.

Hey, NBA! You wanna poison pill the Blazers? Enjoy having your money tied up while we take our time matching, and you lose out on other useful options.

See ya next time, suckas!

I'm not talking about a connection to the city; I'm talking about a connection to the team. By the way, Dame already gave a small discount by agreeing to less on the bonus for making an NBA allstar team.

Crabbe hasn't made squat over the past three years. I don't blame him at all for taking the deal. There's no way Portland offers him that deal without Brooklyn getting involved.
