Dame all but demanding vet roster

Totally depends on who they get back, but for those completely unwilling to include Sharpe for a needle mover- so essentially choosing him over Dame- how sure are you he’s going to be as loyal as Dame has been? We’ll rebuild with him, he’ll become a star, then leave. We have a piece teams actually want, how about we use it for once in Dames career and get him some help. If we have two stars, the mercenaries will come. I say go for it, if it’s the only option.
Dame specifically said that Shaedon is different from the 19 year olds who are 2-3 year away from contributing basically making me wonder what the fuck you're talking about? Dame seemed like he was completely on board with keeping Shae and building around Shae, Jerami and himself but not taking on a guy unlike Shaedon who is 19 and two to three years away. So just in my opinion Dame would probably be excited if we landed the first pick (Wemby) and then moved Ant, Nurk and up to four FRPs that can be available for an all star and along with our second rounder, TPMLE and TPE a better bench.

I think Dame is against taking on guys that are projects who will make little to no impact for a few seasons like Ant was and many high picks have shown themselves to be.

here's what I'm guessing will happen: Cronin will try to make a big move using the lottery pick and the contracts of Simon and Nurkic. He might even try to leverage some future picks but I'm not sure Chicago will cooperate. I'm also pretty sure he won't be stupid enough to completely mortgage the future for a marginal move. And I think marginal moves are all that will be available

and, right now the value of draft picks has never been lower, so a marginal move might be a bad move any other year. Cronin will show Dame the kind of trades he can execute using that draft pick and they just won't be good enough to pull the trigger, so he'll leave it up to Dame to decide if he wants out or will remain.

or I'm colon gazing again

I just can't get on board with your constant assertion (despite the fact that Joe said that he already has an agreement in place with the Bulls) that Chicago is going to hold up any attempts we might make to access our future draft picks. They would be looked at as both illogical because a guaranteed first is better both in use and as a trade chip than a conditional one and they'd be seen as acting in bad faith by every other front office in the league.

I've said this a bunch of times when you've suggested that they will play dirty like this but I guess I will say it again. Politics in the NBA among front offices is very real and no front office wants to look unreasonable and hard to deal with.

So for me and for Joe because he said it in a news conference just like a week ago... we have up to 5 FRPs that we will be able to deal if we need to.

Joe seemed to indicate that he is in talks with Chicago about compensation. Maybe they send the 5 2nd rounders to Chicago from Golden State.

My opinion: Every player on the roster is available except Sharpe. EVERY ONE. Including Dame.

I would love to keep Dame and build around him. I would. But I'm a Blazer fan first, a Dame fan second. I appreciate everything he's done for the franchise, and will forever. And I would love the team to win a title with him.

Ant, Nurk, Grant, Little, Watford, Winslow.... EVERYONE is one the table, including this year's and future picks. But if it's clear that those alone will not get "needle movers" to come to Portland and play with Dame and Sharpe.... then Dame gotta go. Hopefully somewhere where he can win, like Clyde did. But Dame is not 100% untouchable when it comes to the future of the team.

If Cronin can gut the team and sell the future (within reason) to bring in a team that can compete for a title and keep Dame and Sharpe... I'm all in. Let's go. But if he can't....

you're hung up on the least important point I argued

the most important point was I have a strong hunch that the draft picks side of a trade equation will have a lot more value than the value of the player coming back. It will always be unbalanced. Cronin simply won't be getting good enough offers to pull the trigger, especially not with Schmitz whispering in his ears about the value of prospects

for example:

Simons + Little + 5th pick + NY Pick (to Chicago) + 2025 first + 2026 swap + 2027 first

for Siakam

fuck that

That’s not going to make this team into contenders and I doubt that’s the type of trade Dame means.
No, but I could see that still being a solid deal.
I would love to see Vando as a forward next to Grant. The issue is a matter if Nurk > Bamba.
It might be worth the gamble just for a change of pace there.

Vanderbilt on that contract is worth more than Nurkic.

The Nat'l Media, sports or otherwise does not like us. Tourist magazines give us a fair break. Even now, most are pretty cool. And still love what we've got to offer. Major cities, everywhere in the US have problems. The abundance of sunshine seems be be most important in covering up nasty warts.

So you're saying in 20 years when Portland's weather is more like LA's and LA's weather means you have to live in a nuclear bunker underwater, we'll have a chance of attracting FA stars?

Trade Package: Jusuf Nurkic, Kevin Knox for Naz Reid (Sign and Trade)

Trade Package: Jerami Grant (Sign and Trade), 2023 Second-Round Pick From Atlanta, 2026 First-Round Pick From Portland for Draymond Green

Trade Package: Anfernee Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, 2023 First-Round Pick for Jaylen Brown

Starting Lineup: Damian Lillard, Shaedon Sharpe, Jaylen Brown, Draymond Green, Naz Reid

How about bringing in some vets for all the bench. Doesn't have to all be allstars, but man when is the last time we had a solid vet off the bench? Curry?

After seeing the latest Dame thing from Haynes and let's assume Dame is returning the following becomes true or pretty close to it ...

1) Ant is gone in a Trade
2) Nurk Traded
3) Sharpe I think is 50/50 to be traded

I am still wanting Dame to be in Portland but the last two interviews feels like Dame saying time to get serious or time for me to walk. I just wonder what would make Dame not want a trade cause I could see this taking one more year even if most things line up. I think it is possible for this team to be in the top 4 of the west and then build going into another offseason but IF Dame thinks ALL of this can happen in one offseason then we better get prepared for a Dame-less Blazers.

I don't get what changed.

Dude went on JJ Redick's podcast like a month ago and said he was happy.

I think he just wants to be transparent with all fans , media etc etc and granted there is some room for him to decide what is considered a good faith effort and such but still this is the legit 1st time I am worried we may have seen Dame in a Blazer's jersey for the last time this year. The reason for this is let's be honest I have little to no faith Jody will step up and we have a GM who at best is average and worst is a complete idiot so what is there to be optimistic about with those factors in play. I really hope I am wrong and we see Dame with the Blazer til the day he calls it a career but I also have to be realistic and see the facts in front of my face and that is not the best.

Would you trade Simons, Little and this years pick (Assuming it’s not #1) to Boston for Jaylen Brown?

We can't allow Dame to put us over a barrel with other GMs. Why couldn't he fucking wait to go on another crusade until AFTER the draft lottery. This shit just continues to undermine our ability to make trades AND WE CANT EVEN DO ANYTHING RIGHT NOW.

There have been promises made on Cronin's end and now is the time to deliver. He's been consistent on this messaging since Cronin took over. This is the summer to make due on those promises or go a different direction, he's given the franchise more time than it has deserved.

My question for fans is: why do you want to be a middle of the road team? Pick a direction and go with it, the franchise will be better off for it.

I want Dame to not damage his trade value and put us in a position where other teams have leverage.

Nothing he said has been a surprise if you've been listening to him since Cronin took over. Do you think other teams are not paying attention?

Going on a press tour and putting out a story with Haynes is a little different than people knowing that Dame wants to win.

I honestly don't think it undermines anything. Everyone knows we have a superstar at the top of his game that will very soon start his decline. Everyone knows we don't have close to good enough of a team around him. I'm pretty sure before Dame said anything everyone knew the team was on the clock. The fact is that if we offer value that is better than what a team can get elsewhere for a player a team wants to move or needs to move we will get that player whether we have Dame or not, whether Dame says it has to happen or not.

If the trade isn't there, then I think Joe will tell Dame and Dame will be the superstar getting traded on draft night.

Also what's the difference between now and May 16th?

I’m sorry if we somehow we get top 3 pick I’m not trading for anything less than borderline superstar same for Sharpe. Unfortunately if that means Dame leaves I will be heartbroken but understand and will root for him no matter what team he goes to including Lakers (threw up in my mouth when I said that). We cannot sacrifice everything unless we are positive the trade makes us a contender. You rarely get chance at top 3 pick don’t blow this to make us mediocre

Oh, if it's about Dame's trade value then I get your point but I think if the team wanted Dame to he would wait until the trade deadline. Dude is not going to sit out games. If GMs start low balling Cronin, I wouldn't put it past Dame to go back on national television and tell everyone that he's going to play for the Blazers as long as it takes for the team to be in good shape. We're not talking about a selfish guy and although it's not what you want, I think the team will come through enough for Dame to stay. Dame wants to stay so if we trade every fucking pick we can and end up with Dame, Shae, Jerami, Siakam, a serviceable mobile big and a decent bench... then I think Dame will want to see what he can do with that.
