Dame all but demanding vet roster

I know this has already been posted, but absolutely hysterical to me that people think we would just ship Dame off to the highest bidder.

The Magic could offer the Blazers ownership in the franchise and draft picks for 100 years and if Dame said no, they’d say no.

None of us know what the situation is but if Dame has talked to Joe and he knows trades are on the table that Dame would be OK with but Joe is trying to sell Dame on playing with Scoot. This stuff might make a lot of sense.
I think this is what YOU are thinking and trying to pass it along as what Dame is.

Also lol @ Dame and Scoot playing any minutes together.

If we keep Dame and 3 and draft Scoot, it’s gonna be absolutely hilarious when people are bitching “WHY ARE WE PLAYING 2 SMALL GUARDS FUCK BILLUPS”.

I damn near guarantee if Scoot is there at #3, we are trading that pick OR Dame.

There is no fucking way they’re convincing Dame that a guard, that plays his position, off the bench is going to help him get closer to his goal of competing for a championship.

If Brandon Miller (or a SF) is the pick then he might go for it because it would solve an immediate need at a fire position.

Kinda like when Dame came in and was an immediate starter w/LMA.

He needs immediate help in the starting lineup, not at the backup PG position.

I'm pretty sure every player is playing with the goal of competing for a championship. With that, management needs to be patient, practical and prudent when assembling the roster. That is what I expect Cronin to be here. Can he be? Who knows?

Totally agree.

The issue is that a backup PG isn't going to help you win a championship, even if your backup PG is Steph Curry.

Having Steph Curry play 12 minutes off the bench isn't going to get us to a championship faster than having Paul George playing 36 minutes per night, even if Steph Curry is the better player.

So if "assembling a roster" is the goal, how the hell can you draft a backup PG that cannot play with your best player? Seems like really, really poor roster construction.

Sure but it's the same situation as Jerami Grant. Obviously we don't know yet because we haven't crossed that bridge, but an assurance doesn't necessarily mean that they will do it. People change their minds. Either they sign on the dotted line at the time of the trade or there's a huge risk.
Players can't sign at the time of the trade, they have to go to free agency.

I think they would be picking for us.

I understand the logic, but why would Portland be arranging a trade of picks for Dame before he asks to be traded?

He just gave an interview where is answered "yes, I do" to the question of if he expected to be a Blazer when the season starts. He hasn't seen what kind of trades, if any, Cronin may find for the 3rd pick, and quite often, those trades don't materialize till draft day, or even during the draft depending on who is taken when. And that's only the first part of the puzzle. There are many trades that develop in the first couple of weeks of the off-season. Cronin may accomplish something significant at that time that would greatly influence Dame's decision...and Dame will know all of this

so sorry, I just don't see any realistic route for the Blazers to land any 2023 draft picks for Dame, unless it's months from now. As far as I'm concerned, when people use those 2023 picks in trade ideas it's just to enhance their argument with imaginary assets coming back

their new owner seems a bit maniacal. i heard him talk on a podcast last month and dude reminded me of Ballmer a bit. I think he will continue to try to field a competitive roster even when KD is done.
Do you think that makes the picks many years out more or less valuable?

Prokorov tried a similar strategy ultimately giving the Celtics both Tatum and Brown.

Oh boy here we go.
This will be comical how many ways his statements are going to be analyzed and reevaluated. Saying he thinks we have seen the last of him as a Blazer means he thinks he’s leaving. Pretty hard to not take that statement seriously.
He cleared it up in a video today. He wants to be in Portland. He wants Portland to try to win a championship while he's here.

Not sure what this clears up. He wants the Blazers to make moves not at the expense of the future, and for that he will stay? I'm pretty sure that's what he's been saying all along.

That's great....but this year's FA class is not very good.

and it's unclear if the Blazers will have a full-MLE or a tax-MLE to use. There are some interesting players though that might sign for either exception, or even less:

Will Barton
Christian Wood
Kelly Oubre Jr.
Josh Richardson
Dillon Brooks
Dwight Powell
Jae Crowder
Mason Plumlee
Lonnie Walker IV
Cory Joseph
Georges Niang
Bismack Biyombo
Markieff Morris
Thomas Bryant
Yuta Watanabe
Josh Okogie
Moritz Wagner
Gabe Vincent
Jalen McDaniels
Naz Reid

I know it's not a really appealing list but we're talking about 7th-11th players in a rotation

I know the haters are gonna say no way but if you get Dillon Brooks for a MLE you probably should do that.

If Dillon Brooks is our 7th player I think we're back in contention.

he's a bad shooter but he doesn't seem to have the discipline to stop jacking up shots. A bad shooter who has averaged 15FGA/game over the last 4 seasons. That's disturbing volume

Career marks:

FG%: Brooks .416....Thybulle .447
2ptFG%: Brooks .459....Thybulle .588
3ptFG%: Brooks .342....Thybulle .334
TS%: Brooks .512....Thybulle .551

FGA/100 possessions: Brooks 22.0....Thybulle 9.5

Thybulle is a better defender than Brooks and he's disciplined enough not to chuck you out of games

Isn't it public knowledge Portland is over the cap? Can't sign free agents?

they'll have an MLE...unclear at this point if it will be a Full-MLE or a Tax-MLE. The full-MLE would be around 11.2M. The tax-MLE would be around 7M

You did catch the part where we said MLE and 7-11 spot on the roster right?
The dude works hard and does dirty work things out there. He would not be taking 15 shots a game on the Blazers. At least I would hope not?

you did catch the part where I compared him to Thybulle right? If it's 7th-11th in the rotation I'd be inclined to go with the player who plays better defense and doesn't have a history of shooting a higher rate of shots than Ant. And using Thybulle in the role preserves the MLE for another player. I think it would be a problem having both Thybulle and Brooks coming off the bench
