No way Dame puts out these statements years ago or if he was committed long term going forward to the team. Maybe an element of it is subconscious but he's clearly considering playing elsewhere.

Think if this was a marriage and he's discussing publicly what women in the neighborhood he'd date if he ever moved on. Yeah your wife and everyone would understand that message pretty clearly. Saying hey I'm still in this marriage right now doesn't take that back.

Blazers would be stupid to give up the #3 pick right now.

def wouldn't be stupid to trade the pick, it all depends on what we can get back for it.

He literally created the drama all on his own. And he complains when people run with it.

I'm so tired of this crap.

Exactly. Why not answer: «I am in Portland and as of respect for my team I don't speak about other teams.»? He likes some drama during off season but in the end that leads me to a point where I could turn my back on him sooner rather than later.

I dunno. All this staff has really soured my opinion of him being the best leader in the league.

Yeah he was always extremely well spoken and a class by himself both as a leader but also a public cornerstone for the franchise. I'm not seeing that the last few years.

This reminds me of Roy trying to pressure the Blazers publicly to give him a max contract when he had degenerative knees.

I just think Dame has a lot of mixed feelings about the franchise now, going forward, and uncertain exactly what he wants. Its very apparent when he gives statements with these sound bites. National media is rightly running with or quoting them, it's not their fault, it's a result of Dame's direct actions.

He answered questions. People made it dramatic because they want drama. Simple as that.

I watched the whole interview and never once did I think he was throwing shade at Portland or doing anything dramatic.

Incorrect. Dame never would've speculated about joining other teams with other stars 7 years ago when him and CJ were here. He's publicly talking about what teams he wants to be traded to now.

If he didn't want the speculation the answer is "I'm not interested in playing with those teams, I want to play with the Blazers".

In three years he has had a new coach, new GM and new ownership.
Im sure his thoughts about the team are also new compared to years past.
I mean, maybe he sees Jody’s decisions as not being the best to create a contender and so his loyalty is fading?

im 100% loyal to my employer. He takes care of me and he knows ill do anything for him. But if he sold the company and then the GM was replaced along with the production manger?

Id have to reassess my loyalty based on the decisions of the new ownership aNd if i see the course is not in my best interests, then i to would have a conversation/ decision to make.

Dame is human. Everything has changed around him. To expect him to sing the same ole song and dance as years past seems irrational to me, based on common human behavior.

Good post.

Yes Dame has every right to feel however he wants to about the Blazers leaders and organization.

If he gives public comments of playing elsewhere he and the team rightly deserve the speculation of him playing elsewhere.

If he didn't want that he could've given different comments or not commented publicly and only discussed it privately in the organization. That it's public is certainly newsworthy and not manufactured drama with zero basis as some Blazers fans are cleaning.

He literally said he would like to play on other teams knowing full well all of the media would jump on it.

No he didn't. He was asked to compare which teams he would be alright with if he had no choice and was traded. He said he wants to play in Portland.

But if that were no longer an option it would be cool to be with one if his friends. Of the teams listed, his best friend was Bam, next was Bridges.

He wasn't giving these type of interviews and so many of them years ago. Does he have the right? Of course. Is it understandable? Absolutely. But then don't clap back in cryptic Tweets when people take what is said and have an opinion on it. Sure, he is just answering questions, but he is willingly putting himself in those positions to be asked those questions. And as @WesleyMatthews said, it's like a marriage and now he is naming names of women he would date if he got divorced. It that were happening in a marriage, you can be damn sure the wife is going to have some questions or concerns.

Dame said in an Instagram post yesterday he wants to be in Portland, as long as we're trying to win, the same as he has the last decade.

Nothing he has changed with Dame.

He literally said he would like to play on other teams knowing full well all of the media would jump on it.

He literally did not say that. You are soo much smarter than to fall for all of the media ploy.
The media is posting him completely out of context of the full conversation and everyone is coming to thief own conclusions.
The only clear things are Dame is uncertain about the future of the franchise and HIS future with the franchise, but he wants to remain in Portland.
Everything else is just scraps that everyone loves to make full course meals out of.

He wasn't being asked as much years ago. He just finished having one of the best offensive seasons in league history.

He's more in demand now than he ever has been. He's simply more popular now.

*Edit* And no. It's not like marriage. It's a job.

I think we are arguing semantics. Agree to disagree.

I just knew this would happen even if he followed up by saying he would still be in Portland. I'm just saying that he can't complain afterwards of the media driving the narrative of him leaving when he is knowingly fanning those flames every time he goes in front of a mic. And his mouthpiece Haynes is not helping either.

I think he's well within his rights to make fun of the media for taking what he said out of context.

It's a great lesson for everyone. I'm glad he did it.

Ahh thats a pretty certain result you came up with based on opinions because what he says doesn't mean thats everything he thinks.
And really. If you read my post you would sew how i explained it would make much sense for him to be reevaluating his future. Only a fool wouldn't.
I dont see Dame as a fool.

Do i believe he wants to be here? Yes. Do i believe he is as certain he will remain here as in years past? Certainly not.

This cant be helpful for Cronins leverage when you have Haynes threatening a "conversation" if we make a pick at 3.

Why would the Nets trade us Bridges if they can just keep him and know Dame might try and force his way there?

Dame certainly should've made these opinions known privately to Blazers management. But going public with them does nothing to improve the Blazers chance to contend or the chance he stays with the franchise.

However, Dame is also smart enough to know what types of comments the media will take out of context. He could easily say, "I'm not going to talk about other teams or players," if he wants to avoid that kind of misrepresentation, but he doesn't.

I'm not saying that Dame is starting these fires, but he's certainly not making any effort to starve them of fuel.

He got much higher in MVP voting and on All-NBA teams before. He has been asked these questions or had requests for interviews for years. His answers and willingness to answer is much different now....period. Not blaming him, not saying it isn't justified, but it is different.

Whats wrong with wanting a conversation? That doesnt mean a conversation to trade Dame. Maybe it means a conversation on the long term plans management has?

maybe those answers are good for Dame and that conversation goes well?

so much overblowing over “have to have a conversation”.

dog days of summer are in full bloom.
Ima go get my tim hat to avoid the aliens!

I actually think he is and im okay with it. I dont think he has the relationship he once did were convos all happen behind closed doors. I think he feels his message hasnt been clear enough in the past and so he is making it even clearer by going more public.
I also think we are overblowing the impact of the leverage his statements may have. Soo much goes into trades like cap issues, player fit with teams etc. i don't think his words will have major impact in negotiating.

I'm so tired of this crap.

At least people are talking about the Blazers for a change. Seriously though it doesn't bother me because I expected it to happen.
I do read the stories and comments but I take it all with a grain of salt.

Lets be purely speculative and dig a little deeper into WHY Dame is being so publicly vocal. Is it because Dame knows what kind of offers Portland is getting for pick 3 and he does not like the offer? Maybe Dame does like the offer but Cronin does not. Does Dame know what is available on the trade front for a "difference maker" and Cronin does not like the deals why Dame does like them? Dame says himself he is constantly in contact with Cronin. If Portland is getting good offers for the 3, or good trade offers for say Ant, Nurk or any other player, there would most likely be no reason really for Dame to go public as he has. If Dame knows Cronin is working on a deal for Bridges, Dame knows silence is golden. But if there is no deal being worked on or to be had, he goes public. Is it a veiled threat to Cronin? Could be. These are factors I am thinking are playing out behind the scenes .
