Dame asks for trade (And there it is)

Dame will end up in Miami
I read today that Miami is trying to work a trade without Herro in the deal...they want to keep him which would mean they are trying to replace him in the deal since we don't want him. I don't see them doing it without another team in the mix.

I guess they could sell it as "Today's shit burger...now with absolutely nothing nutritious and even more shit."

I'm getting fairly concerned about the status of things.

I personally don't think Dame's value is going to go up as he ages. I'm not sure how much value he actually has. How many teams even make sense to trade for Dame? The market is pretty small. Getting SOME value for Dame is better than getting NO value for Dame.

I'm concerned that the Blazers think they can just wait Dame out and keep him, which would be pretty stupid.
Who is arguing to 'keep him'? I don't see anyone making that argument.

Having said that, there is no reason to rush to trade him. The offers in December or January will not be any worse for Portland - but could potentially be significantly better than what Miami has.

Joe Cronin might be making that argument..... or Jody.... or Bert.

We don't know how the inner-circle feels about Dame..... and all the money he brings in.

I don't see how there could be significantly more options in January. How many teams are competitive enough to value Dame while also having assets, needing a point guard, and willing to pay a 33 year old that much money? The list is pretty short.

That’s why I suggested that maybe we can trade Dame to Miami, Harden to Chicago, Hero to Philadelphia and us getting LeVine. I know more would have to go into the trade but maybe LeVine might have more value at trade deadline? Or maybe LeVine might actually work well with Scoot and we can get value back for Simons?

Why is keeping Dame stupid?

Dame is playing at the highest level of his career.

I don't see why Dame's value has to go UP. He's one of the best point guards in the league.

Would it make more sense to keep Dame if he were 25 years old with a True Shooting % of 56% not knowing if that would improve?

Myself, I would take 33-year-old Dame for 3-4 more years over 25-year-old Dame.

Here's Fred Van Vleet.
Some team paid 6' 1" Van Vleet this much for that much efficiency.
The only people that matter are the GMs of NBA teams. It doesn't matter what your or I think or predict could happen.
Pretty sure Zero people predicted this signing at that amount.

"Toronto can sign VanVleet up to a max contract of nearly $40 million per season over five years.
He is unlikely to get a deal that high and is projected to get something in the neighborhood of $28 to $30 million per season over three or four years."

at 28m, Kyle Lowry set some sort of vet PG low bar.
Is Vanfleet 15m better then Lowry ?
If that answer is yes, then cut the check.

  1. He asked for a trade.
  2. He’s 33 and most of our team is young.
  3. We just drafted a great young point guard prospect.
  4. He’s being paid a ton of money.
  5. We are rebuilding.
  6. He asked for a trade.
  7. He’s 33 and he’s going to start to decline and his value will decline with him.
  8. We could use the assets that we get from him to help our rebuild.
  9. Playing him will hurt the development of Scoot.
  10. Playing him will hurt our draft position during a rebuild.
  11. He asked for a trade.

If the Blazers refused to even contact the Celtics about J. Brown after if you believe the rumors that Dame had Brown convinced to get the Celt's to deal him to the Blazers but Cronin did not even contact them. IF that was the case WHY the HELL would this team want Kat .... they would not.

This is part of the reason why I am so anti Cronin and Vulcan and why and not putting blame on Jody but we still do not know IF she is / was willing to go over the tax for this team. I will not go over this old crap again since only a few on this forum believe it even though prolly the truth or at least part of the truth. I will wait for the truth then we will see who was closest to being right and who was wrong simple at that but said it before might be a few years plus before we know.

Not sure I buy this... Lowry and Duncan Robinson are both worse than Herro and the Heat have no other big contracts to trade.

If I could pick whatever assets I wanted in a Heat trade I'm putting Herro in it (obviously excluding Butler/Bam which isn't realistic)

It's not a guarantee offers will "not be any worse".

It might be a good bet to risk offers will be better, I'd take that bet if Miami isn't offering us close to the max they can. But its certainly not a guarantee a better deal will be available later. Nate has a point in that there is possible downside to holding onto Dame.

They can't do it without help from one or more other teams which is the only way they could keep Herro and trade for Dame. Miami talks a big game but I think Joe has them sweating bullets to try and put something together before the season starts. Let em sweat.

I wouldn't be shocked if something like this happened where Dame got Brown on board to force his way here and Cronin wouldn't go through with it... Dame's scorched earth stance would seem to indicate there was some major falling out behind the scenes.

But its just pure speculation on your part that this is primarily Cronin's fault. Perhaps Jody changed her mind and directed him to not go into the tax. Perhaps the Celtics demanded Sharpe and Scoot which Cronin wouldn't do but Dame wanted. Who knows there are a million possibilities with primarily the blame on Cronin, primarily the blame on Dame, and a million permutations that are all possible inbetween. We'll likely never know, and even if more details come out it'll probably be half truths blaming the other side or furthering someone's agenda.

Overall Dame and Cronin are responsible for their public actions, statements they make, how they perform their jobs, and what they send out in the media.

I get that Miami would try to involve a 3rd team, thats not the part I question.

I question Miami keeping Herro on their roster when completing a Dame trade. That just doesn't make any sense to me regardless if its a two or more team deal.

Where are you pulling this from?

wtf Danny Marang on Locked on Blazers today, sabotaging a perfectly decent Blazers podcast.

Mike begins to say cool stuff about Lillard, then asks Danny what more does Lillard need to do to get big time trade offers from other teams.

Danny responds, "he needs to show he's STILL THAT GUY, and there's zero drop off."

C'mon Dame, one more year, MVP time, 40 points a night, you got this, we love you, we promise to trade you asap... PLEASE

> correct me if I'm wrong with that interpretation

Mike's question starts @22:27

Just look at the Warriors bullshit last season. They accuse Portland of juicing up GP2weeks with Toradol. Headline news everywhere for a couple weeks. Then, a month later or so they release a statement basically saying "oops, our bad, no Toradol was used." But that did not get the news that the accusation did. Portland should have filed something with the league for disparaging and hurting the franchise with no proof.

One thing that might be hurting his value is that the guy hasn't played much in the past two years. Some of that is clearly the Blazers asking him to sit out, but if he's not on the court, can teams 100% be sure that he's healthy and not injury prone at this point?

29 games in 21-22
58 games in 22-23

So he played in about 53% of his games in the past two years.

That's a really convenient way to ignore context. He had a well-publicized injury and surgery in 21-22. And after returning from that, he had the best season of his career (missing 10 games for season-end tanking).

I seriously doubt anyone is legitimately concerned about Dame's long-term health.

Agreed. And just because we haven't heard other offers, it doesn't mean his value isn't high. He's an offensive force who is on contract for several more seasons. I'm sure there have been better offers out there but with Dame's reluctance to open up his list, we're at a stalemate.

Let's say a non Miami team offers waaaay better than Miami for Dame.

Joe comes to Dame, "would you be willing to go there?"

Dame says, No I only wanna go to Miami (imagine annoying stubborn baby voice)

Joe resonds, "if you're in my shoes, would you trade Dame to Miami given the other team's offer?"

As an entrepreneur himself, Dame gotta know this is business. This is a career-defining trade in Joe's young GM career. He wants to have a job after Dame.

I wonder if Dame requested a trade partly to satisfy all the yahoos who keep ranting about him staying in Portland and how dumb that is.

That topic has been shut down and the finger is now being pointed at Cronin.

So far we don't see a huge amount of movement by the Dame camp to get a trade done. If their final position is Miami-or-Bust , that becomes Miami-or-Portland. Or, just Portland.

don't try and stick up for Marang. You're a better podcaster then he is. We're Blazer fans here, not Cronin's personal paparazzi goon.

After Lillard's 2 week November calf strain, Dame played about 50 straight games and averaged just about 34 ppg before Cronin asked Lillard to stop playing his amazing season.

Yah, Lillard had a surgery the year before, but that's after what... 9 straight years of being one of the most durable tip top shape athletes in the NBA?

Lillard does not have to prove anything to anyone in Portland, let alone show Danny Marang that he can continue to be an All-Star All-NBA player.
