The issue small market size can have against larger market competition, in order to thrive and survive they live on shorter margins by earning try to offset with volume. Can be very dangerous as cost of doing business can be much higher as well.
The downfall of the Big Market is:
1) Trying to win now. Not being patient.
2) Getting those free agents that aren't named Giannis or Jokic, and pretending they're just as good.

Yeah all this shit comming from Miami leads me to believe they are getting real desperate. They let go of or traded all those role players and are now realizing they don’t even have the assets to acquire Lillard so are turning to the media for help to scare off other teams. I’m surprised Riley didn’t think this through more clearly, obviously he had little to no respect for Cronin’s abilities as a GM. I’m also surprised he thinks these tactics are gonna work on other GMs around the league. Dame isn’t sitting and potentially losing out on money from endorsements and his contract. Miami is in desperation mode, I love it.

I guess Dame is preparing to go full Harvey Dent.

It's all talk, obviously. If the Blazers trade him to Boston or Philly or New Orleans or the Jazz, he's not going to sit out. It'd be worse than saying "Hey, you know that guy wearing the letter O the last 11 years for the Blazers who boasted about he didn't get caught up in the nonsense and just went out and did his job because that was the right thing to do? Just kidding."

Exactly. They are working together on that messaging

I don't know if it's so much working together as it is just standing back and letting Riley win a leak/PR battle

the key is Cronin not falling for it, but people are naive to think that when any star who asks out and has preferred destinations, the team the star is on hasn't already lost major leverage

it happens with just about every star, and when the preferred teams are out there, the competing bids are going to be weak, if there are any bids at all

I can't believe that people didn't expect Portland to face a situation like this if it got to the point of Dame asking out. You can hate Dame all you want for what he's doing and what you think he's doing, but it won't change the situation the Blazers are in. It was ALWAYS going to end up a pennies-on-the dollar deal. The Blazers chose this path, and they chose it over the course of several seasons

look at the source...it's right out of Miami

people need to realize that Pat Riley, being a viper, is waging an all-out propaganda war against the Blazers
It is most definitely not just Riley.

Dames camp is working overtime right now.

Haynes
Fentress
Marang

There are so many shills out there right now pushing Dames bullshit that it’s like they all just got a job in water treatment.

The rumors like the one below are encouraging. If true that the Nets are desperate to get rid of Ben's contract, then maybe we do land more picks than I thought.

"Makes sense that Nets are looking to give up Ben and his big contract in any deal involving Herro as the team does not want to go back into the tax, which they’re not in right now. The question is how much draft compensation are the Nets willing to give up for Herro and getting off Ben"

The advantage we have is time, it really doesn’t matter if we don’t get a deal done all summer. We are rebuilding and will suck this season. Mia wants this done asap to see who they need to add after the trade and the longer that takes the more of those guys will be signed elsewhere.

I haven't paid attention to Fentress or Marang, but not surprised. Whether it's warranted or not it sure does seem like Dame feels Cronin/Jody/Kolde/Vulcans mislead him. Some scorched earth going on

this was always going to come down to Cronin's willingness to hold the line right up to the point it starts to actually damage Portland's future. Dame's value, IMO, will not be higher at the trade deadline and it sure won't be higher after a season of discontent in Portland

I get Haynes, but who/why are Fentress and Marang? POR personalities?
Fentress works for the Oregonian and he’s trash.

Marang used to be a poster on here and someone decided to pay him money to listen to his arrogant rants. He’s on 1080 now.

I take this as a hint that Dame and the Heat think they are losing ground or don't feel they have any ground to stand on in the first place. They're going all out pushing an emotional narrative that's very easily rebutted.

We're already seen a few national pundits with pretty big followings like Broussard and Cowherd come out for the Blazers in this. I suspect they won't be the last to do so. Dame's making himself more and more of the big bad, and when you build a reputation that you're on another level in terms of righteousness, it attracts detractors like vultures when the hypocrisy starts to show.
