1 years of CJ vs 3 years of Grant.
Washington wouldn't do it anyway, so you're safe.

Dame gets $106,000,000 for the next to years from the Bucks and now $14,000,000 from the Blazers for the next two years, one of which will be to rehab?
Not a bad gig if you can get it. That is why I don't understand why they paid Dame the full MLE instead of the Vet Min. They could have spent that money elsewhere to improve the team and Dame would have still got all of his money from MIL.

Dame gets all the money. Milwaukee just gets a credit on the cap. If Dame took 2 mil vet minimum he'd lose $12 mil each year or $24mil.Dame gets $106,000,000 for the next to years from the Bucks and now $14,000,000 from the Blazers for the next two years, one of which will be to rehab?

Would you please go away? Most posters here don't want to read your self absorbed SPAMI am safe. And smart.
I assumed TBPup knew Dame got the $14m/yr on top of the Milwaukee money, but maybe not....Dame gets all the money. Milwaukee just gets a credit on the cap. If Dame took 2 mil vet minimum he'd lose $12 mil each year or $24mil.
Wait what?Dame gets all the money. Milwaukee just gets a credit on the cap. If Dame took 2 mil vet minimum he'd lose $12 mil each year or $24mil.
Dame contract with Milwaukee is a "sunk cost" for Milwaukee and I guess you'd call it a "sunk bonus" or such on Dame side. I don't see why anyone would think that has a bearing on what Dame signs for.I assumed TBPup knew Dame got the $14m/yr on top of the Milwaukee money, but maybe not....
It’s definitely a shitpost but I appreciate the energy of itDoubt it. It was posted by a Filipino basketball basketball page on facebook. They even put up another post saying Melo is considering coming out of retirement to run it back with Dame so they definitely lost me.
Dame gets all his contract in full from Milwaukee and his contract in full from the Blazers.Wait what?
Who's "they"?
Dame made that choice. If he wanted maximum roster flexibility he would've told the Blazers to keep the money. Seems like he forced Portland to match the other MLE offer(s) he had. Dame is awesome, but he's always prioritized making money vs giving the Blazers max salary flexibility. He has every right to do that.
Portland had a choice if they wanted to sit on that MLE and do nothing, get someone like Mario Hezonja or Derrick Jones Jr, or sign Dame.
I'm ok with option 3.
One point of clarification. What other teams had the full MLE? Not the Lakers or Celtics or Rockets.Who's "they"?

But why would he lose money if he signed for the minimum?Dame gets all his contract in full from Milwaukee and his contract in full from the Blazers.
The Bucks get some cap relief from us signing Dame. Same as Blazers got cap relief on Ayton signing in LA. Just a portion of the deal.
The opportunity cost of signing for 14 mil MLE.But why would he lose money if he signed for the minimum?

How did you want Portland to use their MLE?Yes. Dame didn't force the Blazers to do anything. The Blazers appear to have accepted Dame's terms. They didn't have to. They certainly could have played this other ways if this was all one big kumbaya, Dame wants to rehab at home and fans can feel good at the nostalgia of having him back. It looks like the front office prioritized Dame's wishes over the growth of the team this year (unless someone wants to assert his leadership during rehab makes him worth it), and, while I understand why the Blazers might do that, I'd like an explanation why they did that if building for a deep playoff run is the ultimate goal.
1. I’ll make the assertion. I think his work ethic is contagious and will be a good example for the kids to follow. He is being paid to be a gym rat this season.Yes. $56m+minimum <<< $56m+$14m.But why would he lose money if he signed for the minimum?
They met weeks ago, and teams could have proceed differently in off-season to have the full MLE.One point of clarification. What other teams had the full MLE? Not the Lakers or Celtics or Rockets.
David Robinson to Duncan.I’m trying to think of a superstar who kinda let the next guy take over as he aged, any come to mind?
No point trying to be made was just curious if Scoot explodes this year what would happen.
How did you want Portland to use their MLE?
And the beauty is that the true stars don't wait for the previous star to let them take over, they go and take it!David Robinson to Duncan.
Dirk to Luka.
Cronin has been solid
I don't like this because he's a traitor...but....
Can someone clarify? someone earlier in the thread that his deal may hamstring us to giving Deni an extension? Does anyone know if thats true?
It's a fantastic fit. Blazers are a bunch of great defensive players who are lacking a closer. No more. How I wanted the Blazers to use the MLE is a moot point. I'm not the one making the decisions, nor do I have the knowledge of all the players available that those working in the front office should have.
However, to argue that it's acceptable to give a player that wants to come to Portland for personal reasons, cannot play the upcoming season, who doesn't seem to fit in what we've been led to believe we're trying to build and whose signing unquestionably further limits our already shaky cap flexibility more than we have to when we have other needs and potentially other fillers seems to contradict everything we've been told about building a contender on a timeline.
I really didn't want to rain on the dance party, at least for tonight, but there are implications of this move that I think Blazer fans should be troubled by.
Can Dame play off ball as the catch and shoot guy?
