Dame in Milwaukee thread (1 Viewer)

I think Milwaukee isn’t using him right.

I think Dame would have gotten to play like Dame in Miami and I think that was a big reason why he wanted to go there.

I am not so sure about that. Do you think Spoelstra, who has a proven system, would be more inclined to let Dame be Dame, as opposed to a rookie head coach? Having said that Spoelstra is one of the best coaches in the league, so maybe he would adapt better, but he does demand defense and I never thought Dame was a perfect fit there. Either place was going to have growing pains IMO

Apparently (according to the r/NBA posters) the coach isn't letting Dame call his own plays on the court, so he's not initiating the offense very much. And you know when Dame checks out emotionally, he's just kind of a lump out there.

Add in Denis Schoeder who has always been a Dame killer, and you've got all the makings of a big loss.

Bucks fans are learning just how bad Dame is on defense though, which is fun.

...the grass isn't always greener, just the jersey!

Honestly it's really hard to build a good defensive team with Lillard as your starting point guard

He's just terrible on the defensive end, no other way to put it

He's short
Doesn't have defensive instincts
Not good at fighting over screens
Doesn't take many charges or make steals

Any team in the playoffs can make the offensive plan based on attacking Lillard

It never ceases to amaze me how seemingly intelligent basketball minds can overlook, or talk themselves out of the importance of, how massive a step back Milwaukee's defense would be, going from Jrue to Dame.

Poor take.

I am sure Dame can take some blame but the fact Stotts left before the regular season started says a lot cause while it was time for him to go when he left the Blazers I still like him and wish the best for him. I think Stotts saw this coming and was like -- I am out but I will admit UNLESS we hear something like he left for health reasons looks bad cause he should have stayed and helped not bailed.

In the end the Bucks and Dame will be fine but I am surprised the Bucks and Blazers have the same amount of wins this early on -- LOL

Should have? I have no issues what-so-ever with his decision to leave. He did not like something there for whatever reason, and luckily for him, he does not have to stay, so good on him for looking for #1. Sounds like there were issues between him and the HC - why stay at a place you don't feel appreciated if you do not need to?

This coach seems like he thinks he can hold the reigns really tight, which doesn’t work on a team full of veterans and superstars.

It’s all academic. Boston will win the East, thanks to Cronin sending Holiday there.

all that and how bout "desire", watching the knicks game now and he just stands around almost all the time on D and does nothing, man so glad he and his contract are gone.

Dame used to criticize other players for wanting out because it doesn’t work out and then they bounce around the league. Now it’s happening to him. Hot take: Dame’s career ain’t ending in Portland or Milwaukee. This is what happens when you run from the grind. Harden, Westbrook, KD, Kyrie, etc…

Not a hot take at all.
I completely expect Dame to get traded again

The Bucks identity was defense, and they downgrade from an all-nba 1st team defender to Damian Lillard. And Jrue was giving them 19 a game with very efficient shooting.

To be fair, they're not using Dame the right way AT ALL.

Dame is Dame. They should know what they're getting. He is not playing Dame ball right now.

I feel bad shitting on Dame because I love the guy, but I'm going to add to it. This article goes into detail about Dame's abysmal defense this year. It pretty much sums up what myself and others have said about Dame's terrible defense and how it infects the identity of a team to the point where he becomes a liability.

Damian Lillard is playing the worst defense of his career, and it might cost more than just the Bucks (msn.com)

This has long been a contention of mine as to why he can't be the greatest Blazer. He is the greatest scorer, but that still leaves a lot of the game on the table. Buck have been blown out as many times as the Baby Blazers.

Wow, he is really not trying on defense at all. He's shooting 40%, 30% from 3. However, these numbers are offset somewhat by his shooting 90% from the line and getting there 9 times a game.

He has plenty of time to change the narrative, but I'm starting to think of him as Enes Kanter. Great efficiency, but always ends with a negative +/-.

I think Dame is learning very quickly that it's a cold, hard, snarky world out there away from the cozy, adoring (and accepting) confines of Portlandia. What Blazer fans always knew the hard truth of, the rest of the league is starting to really pay attention to. It will be interesting to see how he responds over time now that the microscope is set to a much higher magnification.......

Stotts had dame and cj and with guys like aminu etc had a pretty good defensive rating. I think Griff will figure it out but to not have Dame and Giannis doing two man stuff all night is silly.
