Dame Time (for a trade)…

Let’s break down the situation:

• Dame will be 33 years old to start this season
• He has played 29 and 58 games last 2 seasons
• His age will be 33, 34, 35, 36 for the next 4 years of his contract
• He will make $46, $49, $56, $63 million per the next 4 years of his contract
• Getting a Top 3 pick in a draft is rare… and this draft is supposed to be the best in years, w/highly regarded top 3 players
• We hit the jackpot last year with potential superstar in Sharpe
• We have Simons, who averaged 21 ppg at 23 years old who is similar to Dame but bigger, younger, and cheaper
• Trading these young assets for win now player can set the rebuild back a decade
• Unless we get a superstar like Giannis, Embiid, or a healthy Zion… I don’t see any possible acquisition that can take a team from 5th worst to title contender
• For a potential new roster to even be competitive, it would take time for the players to gel… and would have to assume Dame stays healthy from age 33-36
• The west is extremely stacked… w/Suns trade and other teams likely to make moves… and the Nuggets will be near unbeatable with their talent, experience, and chemistry
• This is probably the last chance we have to get any significant return for Dame in trade

I just don’t see any realistic path forward keeping Dame… and his comments suggest he would want out if we keep the draft pick. I strongly believe it’s the right time to part ways.

I’m fine with trading Ant & 3 but not Sharpe unless Embiid or Giannis are coming. Nurk/3/Little etc for Zion is what I’d like to see.

I'd use #3 and keep Sharpe as well as keep Ant, unless there is a trade available that makes us a contender. I don't think such trade(s) are realistic.

I'm fine bringing back Dame with that youth. But if he isn't interested and is demanding vets (which would be a poor shortsighted Blazers decision) then tell him sorry this is the direction we think is best for the franchise to ultimately contend.

If Dame wants to think about it and stay then fine, let him. If he wants a trade then go forward with that.

At the end of the day....it all comes down to what you can get with either side of this trade. If we're trading those pieces (pick, Ant, etc.) and getting Giannis....then it's a yes obviously!

I want to make something clear -- in my 1st post I stand by what I said but going to expand on it a little now. I realize this is a tough choice and for me it's kind of easy but I can live with it even if it blows up in the Blazers face and that's keep Dame. I want to make it clear I am not attacking anyone who thinks we should even if it sounded like it cause I can see a case where you feel this even if I hate it and want to see Dame retire a Blazer. The one thing even if we all have differing opinions on how we should make this team better is this is the summer that could shape the future of this franchise for the next 3 to 5 maybe 10 years so there really is no right or wrong answer even If I have come off of late like I might know it all cause we both know that's BS this is just my fandom talking.

Well we’ll just have to disagree. Simons is 3 level scorer and playoffs proved one thing you’ve got to have those guys that hit the 3 but also hit the mid range shots. Think we drastically undervalue Simons, I call it hangover from CJ.

It’s truly unbelievable how sensitive people are, that they can’t handle seeing an opposing view on the biggest decision in franchise history. This is a moment of truth for the franchise… the impact could last decades… it should be debated from all angles.

In decades, I want it to be easy to find the thread where people took a hard stance on if we should trade Dame (regardless of what we get back in return), but that might be difficult to do here. Hopefully AI can do that for me.
