Dame Time (for a trade)…

The only reason this choice is being discussed is because of Dame… it’s his comments that suggest he would want to be traded if we keep the pick. The sad thing is, any potential trades would probably take a year or two to gel and build chemistry. In that same time, the #3 pick can get some good experience and development to contribute significantly. Dame is forcing the teams hand. And to think Dame didn’t play a role in not trading his best friend CJ when we should have is naive. That was our biggest trade chip for most of Dame’s prime.

Getting a top 75 player of all-time on the roster, near their prime, again... or.... getting a top 3 pick again?

We could do the math on this if you believe all things are equal (Spoiler, it's the top 3 pick). Or if you don't think it's equal, we could debate if a franchise, like the Blazers has a more advantages or disadvantages in obtaining/retaining a top 75 player.

I factor this in when I think of what trades I would except for #3 and for Dame. Neither option is "right" in my opinion, it's about what direction will extract the most value.

This just feels like an argument that Neil should be tarred and feather for wasting the prime of a top 75 player. You have oversimplified the situation.

Not all drafts are created equal and Dame won't be a superstar for a lot longer. It's like you guys think Dame will play at a high level for another 10 years. The guy is already showing signs of slowing down. He can't stay healthy. He used to be an iron man.

I feel like the poll is misleading. I know where the poll-maker's sympathies lie (it's obvious from the inclusion of Dame's age) but it still skews in favor of keeping Dame because people are free to put any fanciful trade they want in there. "Obviously we should keep Dame because we're getting Bridges/Brown/Siakam/Paul George!" No we're not. OG Anunoby maybe.

Yeah this seems much more likely to someday contend than trading 3 for a vet and contending now with Dame.

I mean odds are most players won't become Tatum and Brown so yeah more likely this doesn't work. But there are many dozens of cases of teams winning by drafting a couple great guys, vs zero cases of someone like Dame leading a team to a title at his age and his type of game.
