If you need a championship-winning PG who plays defense, he's better.
Not every team needs a small scorer who doesn't play defense.
I guess it kind of depends on what a team has to complement him with. Did Milwaukee feel like they needed a pure scorer?

Remember that Blazers-N'Awlins first round series when Jrue absolutely locked Dame down? Didn't we get swept?
This is a fallacy that has been propagated for too long. The Pelicans locked Dame down with the best traps we'd seen against him to that point. When not trapping Jrue did play some of the best one on one defense that anyone has played on Dame but Jrue didn't absolutely lock Dame down by himself... that's just a silly legend.

From what I can tell;

Blazers saved 1.1 million (sent out 71.5M received 70.4M)
Blazers opened one roster spot (sent out 4 players received 3)

Not sure on trade exceptions, maybe the Blazers can get one for Nurks salary? Probably ultimately doesn't matter as I doubt Blazers will pay tax this year or next.

So I think we now have 2 roster spots we must fill? Although perhaps one or both get used in Jrue trade.

Skylar Mays? Someone said he was with the rest of team at the Ducks game.

I agree. I am a huge Jrue fan. He has killed us for a decade. Same age as Dame and I remember the debate on this board about which one was better between the two. Now I did argue that Dame was better but the bottom line is Jrue probably fills just as big of a need for "certain" teams as Dame does.

It's odd that they didn't route Holiday somewhere else with this deal. Is it possible they plan to keep him and trade Simons?
That’s interesting with Sharpe at SF but I think we trade him.

C’mon Boston, give us your best offer for Jrue. I would like to see Celtics vs Bucks for the ECF

Jrue + Rajon Rondo + E'Twaun Moore + the trapping of AD & Mirotic. It was a clinic and the Pels swept while basically ignoring CJ on defense

Can't be too mad at this trade, 1. Get three picks that could be very valuable right when our young guys are hitting their prime. 2. Get a young center that has had some issues but has talent. 3. Get a guy like Holiday that should be able to net another couple of pieces. 4. Dame gets to go somewhere and have a legit chance at a ring. 5. The Heat get NOTHING from Dame!

Overall really like this deal. Probably have to grade it a B as it not the massive haul many of us hoped might come if Lillard was dealt. But the Blazers just wanted to move on to the new era and this allows it before camp. Still have a very nice asset in Jrue to flip for something else which should bring much more than Herro/LaVine/etc.

For the situation Cronin was in, pressure from the best Blazer ever demanding 1 team, Riley playing hardball with most national media supporting him, I might consider giving an A.

I REALLY like owning 3 years of unprotected Bucks picks. Hopefully they have a ton of pressure to win the next 4 years and mortgage all the rest of their future. We could be talking about the Blazers getting 3 straight top5 picks from Milwaukee, similar to how the Celtics got Tatum and Brown.

I LOVE how this screws Miami. Is there any way Cronin/Jody were so pissed at the Heat they said "What team can we send Dame to that most FUCKS the HEAT?" I can't see anything hurting them more than this.

I graded it a B too just because there were literally no A like moves out there. A B is pretty much an A in this context, I suppose. There was no major haul anywhere so you cant grade it on impossibilities.

Swaps are useless when they are coming from a team that’s going to be better than you forever.

Moving Nurk for Ayton is the aspect which makes this trade so fantastic.

Really sucks to see Dame go. Our franchise record breaker. NBA record holder, NBA LIVE Cover athlete, one of a kind player. Not even Steph has hit game winners like Dame has. Nobody has… IIRC Stockton was the last one to win a playoff series on a buzzer beater. But only Dame has done it twice.

Jordan’s done it twice also

JRue always pissed me off because he always killed the Blazers.

Always kind of liked Milwaukee. Glad Florida got shafted with their loser governor and loser team.

Dame and Giannis won a ring together, then young Blazers in their prime.

in 2030, when the Blazers have an unprotected swap with the Bucks, Dame will be 40; Giannis will turn 36; Middleton will be 41; Lopez will be 42; Connaughton will be 38; Ingles will be 43; Portis will be 35

Sharpe will be 27; Scoot will be 26; Ant will be 30; Ayton will be 31

both teams will be dramatically different. Yeah, the swap might not be worth much; but it might be worth a lot

You expect Milwaukee to be dominant in 28 and 30?

yes. with the way this franchise is operated….

(but even then, I was still being mostly sarcastic. I don’t think PDX got enough out of this deal, but I also like picking up Ayton and dumping Nurk.)
