Saw Kendrick Perkins on ESPN saying this was a rare situation where all three teams did well.

all three teams kind of got what they wanted, although the Blazers would have liked to have quite a bit more. Market and circumstances worked against them

Only sports jersey I’ve ever purchased (aka not as memorabilia) to wear was Dame’s. 6 months ago when I moved to Hawaii (figured everyone wears tanks or goes shirtless over here, anyway). I miss what once was, but it was time to move on.

Interesting.... Spears says that Goodwin talked to Milwaukee and Brooklyn and told those two teams not to tell the Blazers that Dame was okay with them because he thought it could negatively impact the negotiations.

Man Goodwin is absolute scum, how did he find YET ANOTHER GEAR of scumbaggery?!?!?!

I like how Bucks media is having a farewell party for Holiday, acting like, "we got Lillard, but no big deal"

Well, Holiday was the guy they brought in as the difference maker between being an also ran and the champion. He should be respected but they should also be excited. Dame has never had a team of defenders around him like this, he's also never had a team with so many guys capable of getting themselves high level shots has he does now. At the same time this is by far the best teammate Giannis has ever played with and I think during that championship run it was debatable if his best teammate was Middleton or Holiday or even BroLo.

WTF? does that make any sense? I can't see it

but further proof that Dame's agent is a piece of shit

oh I get all that, much appreciated Jrue. Just think it's funny they're not having a Dame fiesta, trying to downplay the significance of the trade.

it is Wisconsin though. Folks up there are probably saying "Damian who ??"

How does this even work? I dunno what Spears is trying to say here.

Dame's massive extension IMO is what worked the most against them as far as bringing better value back

The Athletic Article paints a nasty picture of the Blazers FO. Basically refusing a better deal.

From the moment Lillard requested a trade from the Blazers on July 1, he informed the team that he wanted a deal specifically to the Eastern Conference champion Heat, sources briefed on those talks say. Lillard believed he gave the Blazers loyalty over 11 seasons and wanted the franchise to move him to his preferred landing spot.

The Blazers and Heat had multiple conversations in July, but the sides never engaged in substantive negotiations, according to those sources. In an initial call, the Blazers asked the Heat for Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo. The Heat came to believe that the Blazers had little to no interest in engaging in a deal with them, and as much as Lillard and Goodwin wished that the Blazers would attempt to satisfy his wish, Portland refused. As the summer progressed, Lillard wanted the Blazers to simply try to find a deal with Miami, but those wishes, in his mind, also went unfulfilled.

For their part, league sources say the Heat were prepared in July and August to offer up to three first-round draft picks — with Tyler Herro going to a third team — and multiple second-rounders and swaps along with expiring contracts and 2022 first-round pick Nikola Jović. But the Blazers were disinterested, with each side developing a level of contentiousness.

Not sure how that's a better deal.

it's a better deal if you're Damian Lillard and only wanted to go to Miami, it's not if you wanted to get Ayton and also believe that Jrue can net more talent than the crap Miami was offering.

Honestly hard to say at this point as the return for Holiday will be the determining factor.

100%. Although I don't think Miamis offer would've included the Blazers getting Ayton, if they whiff on trading Jrue (I think the idea that they'll get 3 picks for him is delusional), it'll taint the trade.

Hmm, I wonder if Chris Haynes will dispute this or spin what he said last night on NBATV. He said yesterday the Blazers refused to take any of Miami's calls.

Yeah it's tempting to separate out the Ayton trade, but it's intertwined as part of this. It's possible they could've made the Ayton deal separately, but who replaces Grayson Allen? The article touches on quite a bit, including Phoenix/Ayton.

The Blazers began discussing the framework of the Suns’ involvement with the Ayton-for-Nurkić swap in mid-July but needed two months to find the third team for Lillard and ensure that they wouldn’t be entering the luxury tax given Ayton is on a max salary.

For the Trail Blazers, Phoenix was an essential component to any Lillard trade. Portland valued Ayton, 25, as a foundational piece to anchor a roster headed by Henderson and Sharpe, and the talented big man is sure to be a 20-and-10 threat in his new home. In terms of Holiday, the expectation around the league is that the Blazers will work on finding the two-time All-Star a new home, with several playoff contenders squarely in the mix.
