Dame wants to play with Simmons

what if you have to give up 2 or 3 picks? is that worth the risk?

...one million percent worth it -- because if it fails, then there are still plenty of assets left for total blow-up rebuild. Getting back potential lost draft capital for those assets shouldn't be too difficult :dunno:

Dame/Powell/Nas/Simmons/Turner

This makes us incredibly switchy and instantly improves our defense to potentially top 10 in the league. Add Ant as our offensive go-to guy off the bench and a super 7th man in Nance who could also start for Nas in some matchups, I think we'd be so much more balanced.

Im sure Dame and CJ have had discussions about this. I would think CJ might be thinking that being the lead guard next to Embiid sounds pretty good about now.
Lehigh is only a bit over an hour from Philadelphia, so he's got some local roots.

I could see CJ Nurk and Roco traded for upgrades....Nurk and Roco are expiring and CJ needs to play in the east.....have his own team even if it's a lottery team
Given that the Blazers have to shed salary to avoid paying tax, I have a feeling Nurk and RoCo are more likely to leave as FAs than in trade.

you think you MIGHT get picks if dame is traded? might? you do realize dame dropped 55 in a playoff game 25 games ago.

KD got a supermax after tearing his achilles at the same age Dame is now. Kawhi got a supermax after an ACL injury at the same age. While dame is not at their level consistently, his peak absolutely is. And he's not that far removed from it to suddenly not even be able to bring back draft picks.

I have a sneaking suspicion that KD and Kawhi were valued that highly after injuries because of their proven playoff track record. Dame is in a slightly different category, being the final piece teams hope to add for a championship run. I don't think anyone goes all-in on him as a building block at this stage of his career.

I just can't see Philly including Curry as filler in a Simmons deal. 16/3/3 while shooting 42 percent from 3.

I'm still all in on Simmons. I think if it went south and Dame wanted out Simmons is still only 26 at the beginning of next season. That's still young enough to retool around.

the premise and my response was that dame would not bring back picks in return because of his ab injury. i provided enough qualifiers in my post about dame obviously not being at kd/kawhi's level.

ya it would be green, not seth as a filler.

i just want to get rid of our FAs for some value before they potentially walk this summer. that's why i keep throwing roco/nurk in these ideas.

CJ / 2 Picks / 3 Swaps / Roco
Or
CJ / Nas / 1 Pick / 2 Swaps
i'd do that roco trade over nas, but I want thybulle back in return as the filler. we'd duck the tax completely if it was thybulle instead of green/curry.

jesus, the defense only lineup with simmons/nas/thybulle/nance/nurk would give me so much hope. too much dreaming this morning.

Yeah, a CJ/Roco for Simmons/Green is basically dead on $$ wise. I can see a follow up trade with Nurk, but wonder if that big of a shakeup alarms Dame? Would love Turner, but struggle to find a reason for Indy to move him to us.

so after identifying lackluster effort and low energy, Simmons is the answer?

if this is all it took to get simmons and wood, the deals would already have been done.

also recall, a precursor to any of these moves involving picks would have to involve changing protections on the pick we sent to CHI.

I like Nance but I joked at the time that the Nance acquisition would be the type of deal for Olshey to form his summer around and say he did great. Now that 1st round pick means we don't actually have our entire warchest and Nance hasn't solved any of the key issues of this team.

it'll be interesting to see what chicago will take to make those changes. but if nance was getting 25+ mins and a consistent role, I think his play would justify that move completely. i'm slightly annoyed by how patient chauncey has been with a completely unproductive roco.

I’d prefer the Roco trade because he’s trash now but Philly would prefer the second, I’m sure

Dude, if we could get Simmons and Thybulle for CJ and Roco, I'd trade those picks and swaps all day easy

This is why staying with Cronin as GM could prove most valuable. He could could start to work on trades NOW. Who knows, maybe he is.

funny how I trust Cronin more with trades than I did olshey. He knows the cap/cba better and probably isn’t as connected (aka ego) to guys as Neil was. The athletic article suggested he has power to make moves, but we’ll see if ownership would actually allow him to make a trade as impactful as one including CJ.

I like Nance a lot too, but a 1st round pick for the 5th - 6th best player on the team....

I kept beating the "go all in" drum to improve the top end of this roster this summer and I can't believe Dame was okay with us not doing it. Now we're straight back into that position not even a 3rd of the way through the season!

Think this is obvious. There was one point in the off-season where Dame and Simmons followed each other on IG after years and it both happened at exactly the same time. Pretty clear they talked at that point, maybe when trade talks were ongoing, but obviously those died down.

if cronin can land us simmons for cj and scrap, i'd give him serious consideration to stay on permanently in a head role. giving him freedom to make moves allows him an opportunity to make his own case for that job better than any other potential interviewee could.

shams/amick seem to be suggesting convos are/were ongoing recently though, so who knows. And they mentioned a package different from the one Morey allegedly asked for earlier that Olshey rejected.

Fischer also mentioned not long ago that Portland was one of the teams still in active discussions with Philly.
