Sounds like McCollum knows he's finally on the trading block.

Still, it takes two to tango, and I find it hard to construct any deals around CJ without massively overpaying. Even McCollum + 3 1sts for Holiday is too rich for my blood. But it sounds like that was the initial offer and we probably could have negotiated it down to two 1sts or one 1st and 2 seconds or something. Maybe add Ant or Little.

i would not have done CJ + 3 picks for Holiday.

that is a ridiculous ask.

It sounds like the initial offer by NO. They could have worked on it if a framework was there and there was enough interest in a deal. Same with the 3 1sts + 3 swaps + CJ for Simmons. Never going to happen, but they could have worked on it if there was real interest.

Yeah, not saying Holiday isn't a good player, but he was in essence traded for Eric Bledsoe and 3 picks.

CJ is better than Bledsoe.

CJ is a fantastic talent. But i think he needs a change of scenery. And i think it could prove to heighten his status as a top guard. I think with Philly he would become an All Star. I love CJ, but it's not working, and i think both he, and the franchise , are holding each other back from achieving more. But he's not some sort of bum, never has been. And i consider him an Oregonian as much as anyone. I hope when his career finishes up, he stays forever.

Olshey and his infatuation with CJ.... :banghead:

CJ for Holiday + 3 picks is absolute robbery!

Then if you assume the Milwaukee trade was still available - Portland could flip Holiday for Adams, Bledsoe, and additional picks.
it was CJ + 3 picks for Holiday, not the other way around, and NO is reeling from that move still.

https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...-search-shape-future-franchise-damian-lillard

In the past year, Lillard and his camp have been thwarted on several leverage plays -- Jason Kidd as coach, trading CJ McCollum and four first-round picks for Ben Simmons. Most of all, they lost the confidence that the Blazers had a top basketball executive and ownership willing to make Lillard's contract the highest single-season deal in league history at $55.3 million in 2027.

This is Woj so this information is coming directly from Olshey. States some key facts:

1.) Billups was Olshey's hire (duh), but not Lillard's first choice.
2.) Dame WANTED to trade CJ for Simmons, and was willing to mortgage the franchise's future to do so.
3.) Olshey was hesitant on giving Dame the supermax extension.

Now Olshey is gone. Could 2 and 3 happen? I think the new GM would have to be onboard with 3 for Dame not to request out. For 2, could Cronin/whoever the real GM be actually trade our entire warchest for Simmons?

Dame said in the offseason that he wanted to play with Oubre ....that could be done without Simmons complications...the Hornets would suit CJ pretty well.

reading tea leaves and now seeing that Luka apparently wants to play with Simmons, Simmons immediately liking the post about Dame's supposed desire, and Dame's reaction to the initial report on Monday, etc etc, I get the feeling all this is just Klutch leaking shit to Shams. They're simply trying to get their guy moved and are putting pressure on Morey while making Ben appear more desirable.

Lowe suggested CJ + Ant or Nas + 2 protected firsts as the max we can give up for Simmons.

Oh it totally is a work. And it totally riles up fans who want to believe everything they read (either that Dame wants the team to trade for Simmons OR that Dame wants the team to trade him).

It's all noise.

Lowe suggested CJ + Ant or Nas + 2 protected firsts as the max we can give up for Simmons.

Giving up either one of those (Simons or Little) would be a bitter pill, but honestly, neither one is going to be the difference maker this year or next (especially Simons, due to the roster makeup).

I'm hedging my bet on Simons, since Little seems to have more nagging injuries that keep him out of games more often than Simons has injury issues.

I'd rather give up picks than either one.

It also depends on what they honestly think Brown will end up being (not saying he will be better than Little or Simons potentially, but he is taller than both).

Fentress on his pod said Olshey was somewhat resistant to Simmons trades, but everyone in that front office in Portland right now would take on Simmons.

Probably because it means he'd have to trade his pick/admit he was wrong.

if im daryl morey, im not trading ben simmons for cj mccollum lol

ben simmons is much better player and certainly much more valuable to team like portland than cj mccollum (cj mccollum would give phila scoring, but they would lose everything else they had with simmons)

if anything, they can have kyrie irving for ben simmons and id much rather have kyrie than cj mccollum, even if hes a nutcase

Plus they already have a better Cj in Seth Curry and Maxey. With Seth actually being a pretty damn good defender as well

To stop the sharks from circling.

I don't think GMs operate based on what Woj reports. They can go straight to the source, if needed. Woj is getting the message out to fans that a full rebuild in Portland isn't happening.
