Dort and Grant are great pieces for a team with 2-3 stars on it as final pieces. They are not, however, star pieces

Similar physical players but Dort is no carbon copy as yet anyway. imoAs @wizenheimer pointed out the other day, Dort is basically a carbon copy of Marcus Smart. If you know that and plan around the expected limitations, he can be a very effective piece.
Trade Simons & Nurkic for Ayton?Dort’s a better defender and younger. Trade Simons. Start Dame/Dort. Bring Hart off bench.
It's not about stars, Freshtown. We had the worst D in the league last year. The only reason we contend is if Dame is surrounded by elite defenders. Not 2 or 3. All 4 must be sensational defenders. Dort is a great defender. Exactly the kind of guard you want in the lineup with Dame. He's also only 23 years old. Look at what the Lakers did last year, they traded a bunch of "role players" as you put them for a STAR point guard. It killed their season. Complementary players to Dame is what we need. Not just some random star. OG would be great next to Dame. Grant is good if both Dort and OG on the team too. Defense Defense Defense. If the "Star" isn't an elite defender, not interested.I will continue to repeat what I have said for years:
You do not trade first round picks for role players unless you are at a championship level and your first round pick is 27-30.
You especially do not trade lottery picks for role players.
The only acceptable player to trade a top 10 pick for is a star. Someone that is either a current all-star or someone that is likely to be an all-star going forward.
Dort is not either one of these.
Neither is Grant.
Neither is OG.
Randle is not likely to be an all star level player again in my mind (one season aberration aside).
Siakam? Yes. Star. Give the #7 pick for him.
Collins? Maybe. Getting closer to “future all star territory” here.
But KingSpeed says I don’t know how good he is.Enough with the 5'3" SF. Dort is the proud owner of a -1.5 OBM, -0.7 DBM and -0.1 VORP. In fact, he is negative across the board the last 2 seasons. Just say 'NO' to moving a Lottery pick for him for the opportunity to move down and trade for Grant.
'Mediocrity', thy name is anything to do with this.
He wouldn't play SF. He'd play SG alongside Dame. Those stats you posted mean nothing because his team was specifically trying to lose. I can't think of a better 23 year old defensive guard to put next to Dame.Enough with the 5'3" SF. Dort is the proud owner of a -1.5 OBM, -0.7 DBM and -0.1 VORP. I don't know. Only if we feel Ayton can defend better than Nurk. I say it's worth it because of how young Ayton is. We need to build for present and future. Surround Dame with good young defenders.Trade Simons & Nurkic for Ayton?
The Pistons seemed to think Grant was close to good enough to be an All Star. And he made the Olympic team...Neither Dort or Grant have star potential, so giving up that opportunity at 7 gets us right back where we started. Not good enough or bad enough to be anything but average
Not impressedThe Pistons seemed to think Grant was close to good enough to be an All Star. And he made the Olympic team...

I'm not overly impressed either, but they do say he's a 2 way player, and he can obviously get it done. That's better than any SF we've had in years. And if we could get Randle, who is better than any PF we've had since Aldridge, and probably compliments Dame's game better than Aldridge...Not impressed
I think Grant is damn close to allstar level and if he was playing with a bona fide superstar like Dame, I think he would be an allstar. He doesn't solve all of our problems though. If we were to trade the 7th pick for Dort and the 12th (I would also want the 30th) then I'd want Ant to be bringing back significant value in a sign and trade. Maybe we make the Dort trade, pick Sochan at 12 and S&T Ant for Grant. The Pistons seemed to think Grant was close to good enough to be an All Star. And he made the Olympic team...

He’s a good player on a shitty team. Reminds me of a guy we traded Duck forI'm not overly impressed either, but they do say he's a 2 way player, and he can obviously get it done. That's looking pretty darn good.

I love the idea of having Dame, Dort, Grant, Sochan and Nurk as our starters. We would need both a backup PG and C but I think there will be those at 30 and 36. We already have three solid wings (when healthy) coming off the bench in Hart, Nas and Justise.
If we were starting Dort next to Dame instead of Ant it would be such a relief. No worrying about the fit on offense because it's perfect and no worrying about having a weak defensive back court for the first time since Wes blew is achellis.
Not a big fan of starting guys who are shorter than the average guy at their position, but starting Dort and Hart at the SG and SF spots sounds pretty good. Especially if they could get a taller PF, like Collins or Murray. Both of them are right at 33% on 3-pointers which is exactly what AFA and Mo shot when they made the WCF.
Dort’s a better defender and younger. Trade Simons. Start Dame/Dort. Bring Hart off bench.
That's a monstrous overpay on a sign and trade for Ayton when the Suns have already said they aren't going to pay him max money, so they can be outbid. Also you have to put draft capital in those trades using the exception to get Randle or Woods. I really hope that Detroit will take that offer for Grant, that would be really cool and I don't think it's a bad deal for them but they probably either want a better immediate contributor or immediate relief from Grant's salary via our trade exception.I like a team that starts with Dame and Ayton and like it more with Randle and Grant and with Ant, Watford, Hart and Winslow, I see excellent depth.
Sign & Trade Nurkic plus #7 for Ayton. a third team may be required if PHX doesn’t care for Nurkic.
Trade Bledsoe, #36 and 2025 Bucks #1 to Detroit for
Grant.
UseTrade exception with Knicks to acquire Randle or Woods of Houston
I you can talk Ant into being Jason Terry Dort would be a great partner at the line of attack for Dame on defense.....put Dame Dort Hart Grant and Nurk on the floor and that's a solid defense...Ant Nas Eubanks and Winslow and Ingles off the bench...that's a solid team.Dort = DAWG.
So is Hart, so is Winslow.
Love Dort's game, he's not afraid of anything, but really rather have Hart/Winslow, at this time.
However, can't have enough guys with attitude, who aren't afraid to get down and dirty, 'cos that is what this (and every team) desperately needs.
Oh.....I you can talk Ant into being Jason Terry Dort would be a great partner at the line of attack for Dame on defense.....put Dame Dort Hart Grant and Nurk on the floor and that's a solid defense...Ant Nas Eubanks and Winslow and Ingles off the bench...that's a solid team.
Can something just happen so we can over react to reality instead of over reacting to hypotheticals?
Simons would probably relate more to Jordan Poole than Jason Terry.I you can talk Ant into being Jason Terry Dort would be a great partner at the line of attack for Dame on defense.....put Dame Dort Hart Grant and Nurk on the floor and that's a solid defense...Ant Nas Eubanks and Winslow and Ingles off the bench...that's a solid team.
PHX will match any offer - just watch. That's a monstrous overpay on a sign and trade for Ayton when the Suns have already said they aren't going to pay him max money, so they can be outbid.
