Zombie Damian Lillard to request trade in coming days (nope, he's not.)

like I said, the first giant test is re-signing Powell. If Olshey fails at that the off-season starts out in a deep ditch that climbing out of may be next to impossible

but if Powell is re-signed then Olshey can turn to CJ trades as well as the MLE signing and perhaps dealing Jones, assuming he opts-in, and other players

Olshey can't just re-sign Powell and call it a summer....he has to do something major after that. I have no faith that he will though. This situation was completely avoidable if Olshey would have just done his job 4 or 5 years ago. I still can't believe that oily fuck is still the GM
This is the kicker, and it's such a kick in the nuts. How can you explore CJ trades without knowing whether Powell is back? But at the same time, why would Powell commit unless he knew he had the starting SG position? Such a delicate situation and not one I'm confident Olshey can navigate.

ok you’re correct. Did not think about that lol
It's more hopeful thinking rather than right or wrong. I would hope the team would dispense of the GM before Damian Lillard at this point.

You have to trust in your ability to get Powell back to be the starting SG and trade CJ during the draft when the biggest deals happen. It's a much smaller risk than thinking you can hold onto CJ until you have Powell signed and then deal CJ when the big deals have already been done during the draft. Logistically it is a bit of a nightmare but if CJ isn't traded by the end of the draft, I think we'll see Powell leave in free agency and then Dame will request a trade.

The key word seems to be urgency... so Olshey can't play his usual conservative games.

I love the thought but I fear that if Olshey doesn't get it done and Jody and the Vulcan's tell Dame they'll get someone else to do it, Dame will tell them it's too late. Today it seemed like Dame was saying that he has been showing urgency his whole career and the team never caught on so now he's giving them one last chance... that's just what I got out of it.

Giving Olshey another off season and then firing him because Dame demands a trade will not make Dame rescind his trade demand.

well, my recollection is that almost all trades around the draft involve current draft picks and Portland has none. I don't remember many 3-team trades around draft day. Without a draft pick, Portland would not even be bringing a knife to a gunfight, they'd be bringing a harmonica (although that worked for Charles Bronson)

No idea why it would need to be the draft. Plenty of trades happen once FA opens, but that's besides the point. They don't need to have a draft pick to be involved in the deals. Also, I believe we can't trade our future firsts until after the draft is over anyways.

1sts in 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028
Swaps in 2023, 2025, 2027

That's our full toolbox.

Future picks can be used and the fact is that it's when all of the GMs are talking, there have been plenty of deals on draft night that didn't include picks in the past. Also, for me the team that probably has the most value on CJ is the Knicks and if we were to use them in the three team deal, that deal would most definitely involve picks.

Things I interpreted

1. Dame is giving the team this off season to get something done = fair

2. Putting pressure not only on Neil to improve the roster, but Jo-Lynn as well. She better be willing to go into the threshold to put talent around Dame = fair

3. Wouldn’t surprise me to see the young guys go for a vet wing

Again another obvious reason you have quite so many posts.
The Lillard rumor is not true. Now go chase another rumor and qualify it with LaMarcus Aldridge all you want but don't include me thanks.
By the way any correlation between the two situations is clearly a stretch.

I have a lot of posts because I have literally been posting here since 2008. It has been 13 years.

I didn't say anything about the Dame rumor. But if you don't think that LMA asked to be traded, or at least gave indications that he wouldn't be coming back, well, that's up to you.

Ok there it is … tons of fake accounts lol

Today it seemed like Dame was saying that he has been showing urgency his whole career

Dame also was a huge backer of Terry Stotts so he has to be willing to see what a new coach that he endorsed can accomplish in 2-3 years i would think? Next contract? Who knows? But for this supermax he needs to stay true. Just my opinion on this.

That would be an absolute joke of a trade. No way we make it.

For one it isn't even possible. The Lakers don't have three 1sts between now and 2025. They have 2.

2nd, it's a joke ass fake tweet. Got some Laker fans though which makes me smile. They really thought they were getting Dame this morning. Hahaha

Actually if you read my post i do think he did and i think it was fairly well known he was leaving. Kim Hughes pretty much said that very thing.
Anyway. Water under the bridge.

Why would you think that? To me, this is precisely the type of thing he's good at.

I wouldn't mind Brent Berry as a new GM at all. I Hope Jody sells the team asap and Neil gets fired. Neil has lost the support of the fans and kind of made the blazers a laughing stock right now with that consultant they hired. I also believe Damian is gone.. can't say I blame him at this point. What a meltdown.
