So dame is willing to forgo money for a title?

Did he all the sudden become a free agent?!?

What kind of idiotic logic is that? Dame is willing to wait till the end of his contract to ring chase??

I mean, I can't even put into words just how dumb this line of thinking is.

Yeah, it makes no sense.

I mean if he is willing to restructure his contract to help Portland get more cap space and flexibility that's great.

But, Dame isn't the type of guy who is going to sit

Does Olshey secretly want to rebuild? If he does nothing then that’s what I’m going to assume

I might be misunderstanding, but if I read that right, Dame and the Blazers could re-negotiate his contract next July since he signed his new deal in July 2019....BUT, only if Portland was under the salary cap....which they could be next July if they renounced all their free agents

no he apparently would be willing to re-negotiate his contract for other teams but not Portland.

What wiz linked states a renegotiation can only be used to increase salary. So not sure what the foregoing salary thing is from Abbott, unless it's paying fines for holding out/not reporting

my comment was tongue in cheek, trying to show how ridiculous the notion is, nothing actually to suggest dame would do such a thing.

Save that I'm not sure how you negotiate an increase from a super-max contract?

well, the discussion was about him renegotiating his deal to give Portland more flexibility...in other words, less annual salary

If Neil is the reason the best Blazers ever leaves unhappy I will question my fandom with this team. If PA was alive Olshey wouldn’t be here. It’s very depressing actually. Dame seems like the kind of guy that gives someone too many chances. I’m ready to mortgage the future for this guy, if any Blazer ever deserved it it’s him.

IMHO, a major investment in keeping Dame is pretty good from a risk management perspective. In addition to a very very deep playoff run, it would help the team in the future attract the next generation of superstars. Anything that will help the blazers in the eyes of free agents is a good thing. I honestly think he is the hottest player in the league. Everyone wants Dame, or wants to be him. You can't let that go Neil. He loses Dame and that is what defines his career. Period. Sure I am biased, but even though Harden, Embiid, Durant etc., are all huge talents, they don't have the magnetism that Lillard possesses.

And the re negotiation can only be used to provide a salary increase.

Edit- Obviously that was posted already.

I thought the rule was you couldn't reduce the balance remaining on the contract but could extend that balance over more years?
The rule you posted stated couldn't take a pay cut. Adding an extra year with no new salary would constitute a pay cut.

yeah, it does. I must be misremembering a past renegotiation. Or maybe an artifact of a previous CBA
