Zombie Damian Lillard to request trade in coming days (nope, he's not.)

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

We'd have to choose between them, based on value to the franchise.

Hmm, how do we decide that fairly? 10,000 dice with a picture of Dame on all sides and one die with 5 Dames and 1 Olshey? I guess if we throw out that last one, it's about right.

I would say it's worse than past offseasons.

I suppose in the context of the noise Dame has made you could make that argument

the last time Portland had a free agent of Powell's caliber or better, he walked. So re-signing Powell is a win, both as a retained player and as a tradeable contract. Of course, there was no gray area in Powell's free agency. Lose him it's a huge failure. Keep him and the roster stays the same at the top end of the rotation...which means Portland will be going with a 6'3 forward....unless the most talked about trade actually happens

I don't think the other signings are any real upgrade. I do not believe Zeller is an upgrade over Kanter. Maybe in the case of Melo, Portland gets addition by subtraction

I'd wonder if there are too many expectations of magic in simply moving from Stotts to Billups. I think it was well past time to bring in new vision and new schemes. But going by last season, while a different coach could have led Portland past Denver, that coach would have not led Portland past Phoenix. And Portland essentially has the same roster

10,000 dice? Just go full Dungeons & Dragons and make it a thousand-sided die.

I'd be afraid Olshey would weight the die. I figured with the 10,000 dice plus one, you'd roll all of them and if an Olshey comes up, you remove 1/6 of the Dame dice and roll again. Repeat as necessary until no Olsheys are showing. On the off-chance that the Olshey is the last die face showing, he wins. Care to calculate the odds, Mr. Math?

How often do we sign a free agent like NP? Sure he was already on the team for 30 games, but most fans here said he was gone.
I take that as a bigger victory than most off-seasons. Especially since we did not overpay.

I think finally removing Stotts makes it better than our other dumpster diving offseasons of the past.

No, you guys are right. I wasn't looking at the offseason holistically. Getting rid of Stotts makes the offseason better than past offseasons by itself.

But I was looking at it strictly from a who's out and who's in standpoint. I'm not a fan of Melo or Kanter, but we have done basically nothing to replace their scoring and rebounding.

more bailout shots from Dame though!

As per this thread, I'm looking at it from the standpoint of the last time we heard from Dame before he left for Japan. He knew Stotts was out, he knew Chauncey was in. The guy was asked flatly if running it back with Chauncey as coach would be good enough for him and he said no. We are actually worse than running it back. Does anyone in here imagine that Dame is excited or rejuvenated by what's happened this off season? If he felt desperate enough to be talking about asking out has anything been done to calm that desperation?

I don't think that Olshey actually thinks he's done. I don't know if his iron(s) in the fire are as minuscule as signing Millsap as our last FA addition or if he's really close on a CJ+ for an all star forward deal that would actually assuage our superstar. I guess we'll know soon enough but I don't see Olshey going into camp without either patting himself on the back in a presser or making excuses in one. I guess we'll see.

probably missed it but can you provide a link to this? Im not finding this.

7:40 in the presser the question is asked and I'd watch from there but at 8:29 when Dame says "but" and that's when you get him saying the roster isn't good enough even with a coaching change.

ill check it out tonight.
Thanks

I understand your argument dviss, I just don't agree with it because so far, this off-season looks a lot like past Olshey off-seasons, and Olshey already telegraphed his desire to run it back in the Stotts presser

will he be looking for trades between now and the deadline? sure, there's always a bargain bin to shuffle thru. But there is no reason to expect him to do anything like trading CJ for a better fit. Jones, sure, CJ, no. And exchanging Jones for another player of his caliber is unlikely to do anything close to moving the needle

How does this offseason look like past Olshey offseasons when we fired our head coach?

Like I said, Y'all trippin... There are still deals to be made and Olshey has a mandate...

Dame doesn't ever demand anything and said "we" aren't good enough..which is an inclusive statement...he's not saying everybody but me is not good enough..this is where people project a trade demand...he hasn't made one and only said he doesn't know what the future holds which is true of all of us....we have gotten rid of Melo, Kanter, Zach and Blevins and added a couple 6'8 guys....one on a two way contract...picked up a couple 3 pt shooters for the bench mob..and we have roster spots and a 5 mil or so cap space to sign an MLE guy...Dame also contacted Norm when he returned from the Olympics and was excited to see how they'd work together....Dame was also humbled in the Olympics when he was not the team alpha every game....I think we're fine and I haven't been convinced by any interview that Dame is going anywhere anytime soon..it's all disgruntled fans that prop this story up...mostly as fuel for Olshey hate from what I see...if Olshey blows the coach hiring and roster composition, he'll be gone in my book....I just don't think he's done either of those things so far...I'm with dviss....chill out..we're in process...whole lot of fearing the unknown going on this summer

but were in an instant world! Show instant results or your an instant failure!

I think I did read that Norm signed because Dame was staying. If Dame signaled doubt, then Norm would have walked.

Olshey has had 9 years. Results haven't been good enough.

We are a treadmill team with no chance of contention and low confidence in Olshey doing anything to improve those chances.
that's pure opinion...I've enjoyed the hell out of the Lillard era of basketball in Portland...anyone who hasn't is into sports for the wrong reason from my view...they've entertained me for 45 years...changes and all...injuries have fucked with our depth for a few years now..even as far as Festus Ezeli or Pau Gasol...definitely with Zach and Nurk...I'd say that's part of the sport...you have to stay healthy to get to the post season with a strong rotation....ultimatums like saying "no chance of contention" are just exaggerations...we have beat the best of the west many times in the Dame era...making the western conf finals is a chance to contend...we did that beat up....the Warriors simply had a mini dynasty that we lost too just like everyone else in the league did....no shame in that....there are essentially 28 treadmill teams every year...some are even contenders...but playing for the bronze...not the gold

I disagree. The only difference is the coaching change.

Everything else has been a normal NO offseason. I'd be very surprised if we had a trade of any significance at this point.

You were alive during a championship. Everything else for you is gravy. Many of us have never seen a championship. We aren't getting any younger and would like to be contenders.

Damian himself has said our roster isn't strong enough.

I knew who you were responding to before I even hit "unignore."

I'm going to reserve my right to be angry about Ezeli and Gasol. I mean, they were hurt when they were signed. That's either poor due diligence or pure stupidity.

nah..to me it was a risk with a high upside if it panned out...just bad luck it didn't...we took a swing and missed

when Dame said that he was including himself...he knows he's part of our defensive weakness..I'm tired of people acting like Dame feels above the guys he goes to battle with...he's not that kind of leader

Of course he included himself. He is the best piece on the team. He also didn't think a coach could turn the team into a contender. All this adds up to us needing more talent to contend. If you have faith in Olshey making a trade to get us more talent to put us in a position to contend, great. Many of us don't.

Today, I don't even care about the past. Fuck all of that because letting LaMarcus walk for nothing, holding on to Terry for as long as he did and all of the horrendous deals he's crippled us with haven't gotten him fired. So I'm concentrating on right now and our immediate future. Dame laid down a mandate for the team to get better... he said that his future with this team is on the line. Olshey exchanged bench specialists for mediocre all around bench players and actually got smaller. That's what Olshey has done in response to what Dame said. That doesn't make me feel good about our chances of having Dame on our team after the trade deadline.

The one thing that gives me hope is that the pressure Dame has put on Neil is unprecedented for Neil and therefore could result in unprecedented movement. Neil still hasn't called it a day on the off season by holding a presser. So I'm hoping he has a deal or deals lined up and is waiting for other teams to get the deal or those deals made. I keep saying this but we'll have to wait and see. The problem is that I think it's more likely than not that we'll wait and then see Dame traded at the deadline. I hope I'm wrong... I also hope I'm wrong not because Dame is loyal to a fault like some people in here say despite Dame blatantly saying those days are past but I hope I'm wrong because we do the right things to put a team around Dame that actually has a chance to win it all.
