D'antoni out in NY

I'd be ok with Portland firing Nate and hiring him on. D'Antoni got more productivity out of Felton than anyone else, and it'd be fun to see Aldridge and Batum fully committed to an uptempo offense. Sign him on until the end of the season and then bring him back if it's looking promising.

It feels like this season is lost anyway at this point. We're biding our time for our contracts to come off the books (or opportunities to shift expirings for decent players). Might as well give D'Antoni a test drive. Hell, maybe it makes us a little more attractive to Steve Nash this summer if we have D'Antoni and can prove that LA/Batum can play open court hoops well.

D'Antoni blows. Everywhere he goes his teams suck playing defense. The only way to be good in the playoffs is to play good D. Running only takes you so far.

While that's mostly true, he's also a polar opposite of Nate. Nate's had his scrap/hustle/low possession/defensive reputation style for so many years, this would be like a bucket of cold water thrown in. And I mean that in a good way. I'd like to see our guys exposed to a polar opposite playing style. When D'Antoni inevitably fails (hopefully in a few years, but hey, maybe by April) you swing the pendulum back toward the middle with a less extreme coach.

Hell, I'd take Mike over Nate anyday. Nate's "style" is freaking overrated and done. This team/city deserves something new and refreshing instead of the same ol' "schtick" of McMillians......scrap scrap scrap

D'Antoni has done less, while being given elite talent, than any coach I can think of over the past 20 years. He's so overrated.

I do have to laugh at how D'Antoni's shitty coaching is Carmelo Anthony's fault, though. The Knicks were at about .500 last year before 'Melo got traded to NYC. Anthony made little difference in terms of W/L.

Wow, if (a BIG if, I know),

that deal was available, and if Dolan decided he didn't want to trade Melo for Deron Williams,

he is an idiot.

Melo and Amare overlap too much in what they each can bring to a successful team. Trading one for another star player at a position of need and a position that is extra hard to fill and a position that does not overlap with a scoring forward - even if that player is not as "good" is smart team building.

He is an idiot. Well, we already knew that, so this new decision shed little new light.

I agree that Anthony is terrifically overrated by some. He's a good scorer, no question, and scoring is the most important aspect of the game, but he doesn't do much else at a high level and the overlap with Amare hurts them both.

Whether D'Antoni was a problem or not: I dunno. If he wanted to trade Anthony for Williams and management/ownership nixxed it, then... sounds like he was trying to be part of the solution.
