Just asking...why does Nurk have to go? I mean, it's not like either of them is going to be a 36mpg monster. There are minutes enough for both. Having a defensive presence for 48mpg seems like a good thing. How much? Well, how much do you value what the Clippers need?

From their end: They have DJ, Blake, Gallo and some short-term contracts (including Beverley, Rivers, etc). They can give us either a 2022, '23, or '24 pick OR '22 and '24. They are in a similar cap situation as us.

Is this a chance to get something...anything...before DJ opts out? Is it a hedge against him not opting out, as BNM described that it's a lot of money to leave on the table.

Would Meyers+Turner and a 1st do it? :)

With so many really bad to marginally bad contracts, there are a lot of packages that make sense for POR. The question is, do any of them also make sense for LAC.

In the end, I think they will receive better offers elsewhere.

Someone mentioned C.J., earlier in the thread. If C.J. had been offered for DeAndre Jordan, we wouldn't be discussing a tweet from Marc Stein about a rumor. We'd be discussing a tweet from Woj about a trade.

We have a really imbalanced roster as is. Nearly all our talent is consolidated at guard and inside spots. We have guys like Vonleh/Leonard/Caleb all getting DNPs nightly not because they don't deserve minutes, but because there are no more minutes left to give them.

If we're gonna make moves to actually build this roster to win (rather than simply gain assets to make subsequent moves), we would be better served actually getting some wing talent.

Meyers and Turner is probably what Neil offered and the Clippers balked

Define deserves. He didn't even get Mozgov money (4 years, $64 million), not even close (3 years, $41 million). That's the difference between the summer of 2016 and the summer of 2017.

he got 3/41, he sucks... and people think Nurk gonna get like 4/15 or less
add one more year to the Plumlee contract and it woud be 4/56, so 4 mil less than Nurk

and Nurk is much better than Plumlee

Neither is high flying centers. I don’t think there’s ever going to be an Air Nurk tennis shoe.

Neither is a high flying center? For a guy with DJ's height and standing reach, a 30 inch vertical is pretty athletic.

Butters jumps outta the gym with a 32 inch vert.

You kind of made my point for me.

Plumlee is >> Mosgov

Mosgov = 4 years $64 million

If you extend Plumlee out to 4 years, you get 4/3*41 = $54.7 million

No way is Mosgov $9.3 million better than Plumlee. Plumlee is both better and cheaper than Mosgov.

And that was my original point, the market value for centers has declined since the summer of 2016. Based on the current market, DeAndre Jordan would be foolish to leave $24 million on the table and opt out of the final year of his current contract. The only was he does so, would be to re-sign with the team who holds his Bird rights for a deal starting at $24 million, but declining each year after that.

Declining contracts are fairly new, but they make sense for both parties. The player gets his huge payday while still in his prime, but the team sees his salary decline in parallel with his production. So, they aren't paying an over-the-hill 35 year old $30 million a year.

DeAndre Jordan makes sense for Blazers, but do they have the assets?

Olshey is probably just kicking the tires. If you could get Jordan for peanuts (which I don't think you can, but yaneverknow), it would be an insurance policy against Nurkic demanding (and maybe getting, from another team) an offer way out of step with his value and letting him depart (assuming Jordan was willing to stay).

Not that Olshey lets free agents depart, even if he has to massively overpay to keep them, so.

I doubt there's anything to this. However, you certainly have to see what is out there. You never know when you can get a steal.

The only thing I see this rumor indicating is that we will indeed be very active come trade deadline. Feels like Neil knows if he doesn’t make something happen he may not be here by the draft.

We probably didn't make a substantial offer with good assets included or else Clippers would have been interested. Olshey might have tried to dump our bad contracts on them while attaching a 2018 or 2019 pick, or one of our younger players, and thought half a year of DeAndre might be worth it.

If we gave them Turner, Vonleh and a lottery protected 2019 pick I wouldn't be angry about it at all. It would have allowed Clippers to tank this season as long as they played Turner a lot and DeAndre would be good here. He's a very good defensive center.

We definitely did not offer them CJ, not a chance.

I was referring to Nurk. Butters can jump as high as he wants to on the sidelines waiving a towel and he's still not going to get an alley-oop.

We have a lack of consistent talent, and Jordan would improve that immediately becoming
the 3rd or 4th best player on the team. So, I'm interested.

The problem is that I'm not sure the Clips want what I'm selling. I won't trade our big 3 or
Collins, though I'd give up a protected 1st rounder.

He'd be a good backup for Nurk. You can't play Jordan in the 4th quarter because of his FT shooting. So, play him most of his minutes in the first three quarters to keep Nurk fresh and out of foul trouble.

It will never happen. The Clipps will get better offers for teams desperate for defense and rebounding.

I don't like rooting for petulant dumbasses.
