Why is Afflalo a good acquisition? He's still young-ish, but his PER was below 9 and his defensive rating was 110 last season.

I don't blame Denver for acquiring him so cheaply, but not much indicates he's going to play well for the Nuggets.

I don't put a whole lot of stock into DRtgs. team D is a huge factor in that rating.

Hey, I love Texas in the fall and spring. 60 more days of sunshine here than Portland. The summers on the other hand suck ass. It is cheaper though, and the food is way better. I also have pro football and baseball here.

That's absolutely not the case.

Portland was 4th in the west, and that was great, but Portland was closer to 9th than 1st. We had a losing road record, and only beat 2 teams at or above .500 on the road. 1 after Chris Paul went out injured. Portland indeed was 4th in conference, but has a below average starter at 2 possitions. Steve Blake is a hell of a guy, but not a starting quality PG on a contending team. Nicolas Batum looks like he is going to be a really good player in a few years, but that is in a few years. Add in a back up POWER forward and you have 3 key possitions that Portland needs to address.

For this team to tell all of us that 2009 was the year we were aiming for with our cap space and not to get anything done shoul dpiss people off.

So we ended up with around 8 million to spend, and could have more if we renounce two guys that will never play here anyway. So roughly 9.5 million to spend on 3 needs and we have zero to show for it.

It has nothing to do with your rediculous boat reference, it has to do with Portland needing a couple of improvements and not using RLEC, or our FA money to get those things.

And that has more to do with how good LA was than anything. I don't really see the relevance of this statement. As if we were extremely close to missing out on the playoffs. We were also tied with 2nd place record wise. So we were just as close to 9th as every other team in the playoffs.

Yeah.. Afflalo's just an OK player. But I think Dahntay Jones was a better for fit for them with his defense and sometimes emotional outbursts like every Thugget has.
He's a nice player to replace Jones, but not that significant of an upgrade to say they'll be so much better.

Yeah, but we won a number of games in which we trailed big time last year. A few bad bounces here and there, and this easily could have been a 47 win team instead of a 54 win team. And I think the fact that we got smoked in round 1 when we had home court and were playing a team missing its best player, pretty much shows that, although they finished 4th, this was probably abut the 6th or 7th best team in the west.

So I agree with Mediocre Man: we have 3 glaring needs (PG, SF, and backup PF) and have not done anything to address them this off-season, in spite of having plenty of $$ to do so. To me, the PG situation is by far the most glaring. I'm OK with Batum/Webster and a Ronny Turiaf would have sufficed at the backup PF spot. But with all this money and we don't land a Kidd/Sessions/Nash/Bibby/Miller... that's just terrible if that's how it ends up.

Portland had the 5th best point differential in the NBA last year at +5.3. Houston was 6th at +4.0.

I have no clue what you are talking about. Houston was not missing Yao against Portland, and the point differential suggests that, over an 82 game season, a strong argument can be made for Portland being the second-best team in the West last season.
