A friend of mine, in the pizza delivery business, does not share the same opinion of Syracuse players as I do, and loves Soup Juggler. He thinks he might be the second best player in the draft

Your pizza guy very rarely gets the toppings wrong, or is late with a delivery... will you have a change of heart about Waiters?

He is oddly accurate for a delivery guy, but no. I stand by my factually baseless opinion

It's all finger pointing until draft day. Maybe it's false hype to get Toronto to bite on him at 8.

Perhaps, but sometimes where there's smoke there is fire.

In any case it's fairly plain that somebody promised Waiters they'd take him in the lottery. If the team that did so welshed and Waiters takes a tumble, that's going to reflect badly on that team with agents and players in the future, which might cause enough harm to outweigh whatever short-term gains they might get in manipulating the draft.

I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that it coudl be POR....

I would not be dissapointed with the pick...

I happen to like Rivers better...but Waiters is close IMO....I'd like either one...

I also think you should call him "the Soup Juggler", not Soup Juggler or The Soup Juggler... just my opinion. Just rolls of the tongue better.

...That's what Mrs HCP said about me afterwards anyway.

There's so many smokescreens going around right now you've heard every team from #6-14 made the promise.

FWIW Steve Kyler said the promise was not made by Phoenix or Toronto.

DX chimes in:

11. Portland -- Dion Waiters SG -- The Trail Blazers had a disappointing season, partially because of injuries and partially because of the lackluster performance of their backcourt. Offseason acquisitions Raymond Felton and Jamal Crawford both struggled to live up to expectations, while Wesley Matthews regressed somewhat after a promising sophomore season. Both of the top point guard prospects, Damian Lillard and Kendall Marshall, will get extended looks here, but we're hearing that it's Dion Waiters who has caught the eye of new GM Neil Olshey. Many teams around the league are now speculating that it's Portland who actually gave Waiters a guarantee he'll be selected if he drops to here, causing him to cancel all of his remaining workouts

For an agent to cancel workouts makes me think either:
1. His client will look bad in workouts and will have a better chance of being drafted high by staying the heck away from a teams critical analysis
2. There is a team that promised to take him, the agent and player thinks the team and city would be a great fit for endorsements, playing time, style of play and role on the team so they aren’t interested in going a couple of spots higher.

my fav remains Drummond at 6 and Waiters at 11

This draft is crazy and this is exactly why I love this forum. So many different opinions and point of view. A Drummond/Waiters draft would be a complete failure if you ask me.

If we don't trade up I'd like to end the draft with two players: Harrison Barnes/MKG (whomever falls) and Dion Waiters with an eye on signing Dragic.

But I still think the priority should be acquiring that #2 pick for T-Rob.

How about TRob falling to us for free? ;))))

What would be a complete success in your opinion?

any 2 of

barnes
lillard
t jones
drummond
sulliinger
p jones

at 6 and 11 would be realistic and ok with me

Give me the options I have at each pick and I will tell you.

Alright--let's start with 6. Davis, Robinson, Beal, Barnes, and MKG are gone. Who do you take?

Taking Davis out of the equation, who would be your favorite possible 6th and 11th picks -- that is, guys that have at least a reasonable chance of being available at each spot (eg. Barnes, Lilliard, MKG, Beal, Drummond, etc. at 6 and guys like T and P Jones, Henson, Marshall, Ross, Waiters, Rivers, etc. at 11th).

I go home happy with Barnes/Marshall or Lillard/Rivers or Lillard Terrance Jones

I really wonder how far Marshall might drop. Far enough to buy a pick and get him in addition to 2 other guys. If we didnt get Lillard that sure would be nice to get say Drummond, Rivers and Marshall. That is a little bit of everything that we need, lots of talent and some high upside too. I still think I would rather have Lillard but those 3 would be a nice too.

That would be very nice indeed!

Wheels' Mock Draft

No surprise he's thinking the same thing...

11.) Portland – Dion Waiters SG (Syracuse) 6-4, 221 lbs. With Lillard already in the fold, the Blazers could add another potent backcourt scorer in Waiters. He was instant offense in college, and depending on other additions, could either be an ideal 6th man for the Blazers with Jamal Crawford opting out of his contract, or he could even compete for a starting spot. Whatever the case, he’d figure to be a meaningful part of the guard rotation from day 1 of training camp. He’s a confident player who can score in a variety of ways, including creating shots off the dribble, a quality the Blazers don’t have with most of the guys on their roster right now.

The Soup Juggler alonr would piss me off, but drafting him after we drafted Lillard would make no sense

Can you imagine Lillard starting at the 1 and Waiters starting at the 2 as rookies? Oh the fun this forum would have!
