Do you believe in Heaven and Hell?

you're describing how a delusional person thinks about things.

A delusional person from your perspective. You've given plenty of faith-based answers in this thread, but because they aren't religious in nature, you can't and don't see it that way.

When is the last time you personally verified what the speed of light is? Or do you accept what it is on faith?

What difference does it make when I last verified it? If you are going to take that position, even if I measured it 3 seconds ago, it might have changed since then. We can know nothing, even whether we exist. It could all be an illusion.

Is that the road you are traveling? Otherwise I don't see your point.

you may not agree with them, but i can point to reasons external to myself for everything i think is or isn't true, and i treat the concept of truth itself as a matter of practicality and probability and not absolutes. i don't rely on faith.

you're self-admittedly not concerned with proof, so why bother to comment on whether there is or not?

I know I'm here. I exist. Mankind had to get here somehow, some way.

God's creation, His stated absolutes in life and ultimate plan of being with Him eternity absolutely makes the most sense to me. I believe in the Big Bang Theory. God spoke and Bang, life came into existence.

crowTrobot, I'm not expecting you (or anyone else for that matter) to "prove" anything to me. Events in my life far more than words in the Bible have cemented my faith and belief in Christ. It's who I am. It's my testimony. That's how I roll. Nothing will ever change that.........ever.

I originally entered this thread's discussion simply to answer (on behalf of myself) the raised question.

You do realize that observing an experiment can alter the results?

it is certainly most satisfying to the human ego to believe that we matter to the creator of the universe. as long as you are going to believe something based on how it makes you feel rather than on objective evidence, it might as well be that.

i'm sure that's fine for you because your belief is rather benign, but in generally i think never being able to change your mind is a dangerous attitude for humans to embrace. that's the main reason i bother to argue against faith as a means to belief.

Yes. Always an ongoing process, though. I try to read portion every day. It's great reading. :)

Yes. All of it.

I make it my effort to, yes. However, even as Paul describes in Romans 7, it's an impossibility to adhere to all of it...all the time. (It's why Christ came. He's my advocate and ultimate "Savior". It's not about "rule following".)

Inconsistencies? Jesus didn't contradict the Old Testament. He was God's solution to fix the mess that resulted in Adam & Eve's rebellion.

Do you believe eye for an eye or turn the other cheek?

Do you follow all of the rules in Leviticus?

Do you tithe?

Do you ever work on Sunday

A little levity for such serious people. :)

For me, it's an eternally glorious attitude. Apart from spending eternity with the creator, how I live my life now is the absolute best for me in the long run. (I lived plenty of years for "myself". I have no desire to back.) You, nor anyone else could prove otherwise. Give it a shot if you'd like.

Do you understand the differences between the Old and New Testaments?

Old Testament times were pre-Jesus. Atonement for sin was dealt with in an entirely different manner.

Jesus changed all that (New Testament) upon His arrival on the scene.

again that's cool for you because your belief is relatively benign in how it affects others. a lot of faith based religious belief isn't.

Yep, it is cool for me. I be nign. ;)

EDIT: I hope you know I'm being relatively facetious. I don't label my belief benign in any way, shape, or form. How you've concluded that is beyond me.

Yes, but it's not that simple. There are 3 separate and distinct Kingdoms of Glory. Hell is like prison with parole. There is no life sentence in Hell. The time you spend there depends on how much you need to repent of. However you will only inherit the least of the 3 Kingdoms and you cannot progress hence the term damnation. This is mentioned in the Bible and expounded in the Book of Mormon. As for the 6 year old, all children under the age of accountability ( 8 years old ) automatically go to the highest of the 3 kingdoms, the Celestial Kingdom. Also all of those who could not learn Christianity while on the earth also go there if they would have accepted it. Everyone is covered under the atonement and every will get the chance to obtain the highest Glory.

Just saw this on KGW. Ben Breedlove had a heart issue and died a week after he made this video:

You plagiarized that from a Nintendo DS Game Storyline.

E) Do you believe homosexuality is a biblical sin and if so how do you reconcile that with the scientific view that it is genetic, and why isn't god a huge bigot?

God is a major bigot, the Archie Bunker of mythical superbeings.

Leviticus 18:22
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." KJV

an abomination punishable by death (levit. 20:13)

leviticus 20 is a probably the most insane chapter in the bible. death for homosexuality, adultery, talking to spirits, children who curse their parents, banishment for having sex during your wife's period etc.

And it's the old testimate. I tend to put my faith mainly on the new testament, since this is after Christ.

People can't affect you with their beliefs unless you let them affect you. Unless the Inquisition is still going one somewhere, I suppose. Or the Holocaust.

As I understand modern Christianity (post -Leviticus/New Testament), that punishment is for their God to decide, and not for them to judge as practioners of that religion.

I'm not sure what you guys are trying to prove with your quotes from the Bible. I guess I'm just at a different level of understanding faith, while not having it myself, than you guys are at this time.

If your issue is with Christian Fundamentalists, I don't think ABM is in that group, unless I'm wrong.

oh yeah? i can't take more than 3 oz of toothpaste on an airplane because of someones not-so-benign religious faith.
