He's certainly better than Edy while Edy is out injured. Which is possibly most of his career, given foot issues for giants are not good.

Williams has always been an advanced metric all-star. When he was on the Celtics the first time they played in the NBA finals he led the Celtics, in winshares. winshares/48, and BPM.

Clingan leads the Blazers in winshares and is 3rd in winshares/48. Williams is better than Deni in winshares/48 and BPM. He's also only averaging 16.7 minutes and not playing both games in B-2-B, so he doesn't have to pace himself

I think a lot of folks forget RWIII’s knees are the only reason he’s not an all star starting for a contender. When he plays at 100% he is better than Clingan.

Clingan has been flagging the last ten or fifteen games. Conditioning isn’t fully there yet; he’s been playing a bunch more than anyone expected going into the season.

He also has trouble with mobile centers and smaller guys. Since RWIII is exactly the right player in those situations, when Donovan struggles, RWIII usually thrives.

in the month of February, he averaged:

* 14.3 points --> his highest PPG of the season
* 13.0 rebs --> his highest RPG of the season
* 3.1 assists --> his highest APG of the season
* a 2.43 assist/turnover ratio --> his best mark of the season
* 28.2 minutes --> his 2nd highest average of the season
* 55% on FG's --> 2nd best monthly mark of the season
* 46.5% on three's --> by far his best monthly mark of the season
* a .654 TS% --> 2nd highest of the season
* 2nd best off. rating and 2nd best def. rating of the year
* 2.3 blocks a game --> by far the best mark of the season

now, his numbers in March are mostly worse than February. But it has only been 4 games and 3 of those were on the road, so the sample size is probably skewed

I don't think it's a stretch to say Rob is more impactful in the minutes he plays. But both are good, and Rob's problem is that he can't play many minutes.

because he's almost exclusively a drop-coverage C, he's going to have games when he's less impactful. I think he's still inexperienced enough to let issues on defense or offense impact the other end of the floor

Getting that ejection was the best thing he ever did. I want to say he will be top 6-10?? Jokic, Wemby, Sengun, Bam are all-stars. KAT is hard to figure out. Defensive liability. AD never plays. Sabonis seems like a PF. Kessler is good but missed a whole season. Same for Edey. Gobert is a great defender but aging. Poetl, Vuc, Zubac, Hart are all solid. Ayton is a trainwreck.

Duren Towns Allen Embiid Zubac Gobert could have arguments either way so that puts Clingan somewhere from #5-#11 range.

Regardless he's better than most NBA teams starting center which is freaking impressive being the youngest of all these guys.

I couldn't help but chuckle seeing Ayton name - laughable some posters here were complaining about how we'd be in trouble going from Ayton > Clingan as our starter this season.

Embiid and AD would be but if availability is one of the main gauges, and it should be, those two are out of the top-tier....and probably disqualified from consideration altogether. (I said 'wut' when I saw that Embiid is now 32 years old...when did that happen; AD is 33)

* we saw Clingan and Gobert on the same floor last night, matched up against each other. Gobert still has an advantage as a rim-protector/shot-intimidator, but the gap has narrowed considerably. Clingan may have built a small advantage as a rebounder. And Clingan probably has an edge on offense because of his passing and 3 point shot. He's better as a high post hub. Gobert is more sure-handed in traffic; and he probably sets better screens than Clingan, but that's likely due to experience

anyway, if you put Clingan and Gobert on the 2nd tier, who should join them? Sengun for sure and maybe you say the top tier is simply a 2-unicorn tier of Jokic and Wemby with a secondary top-tier of Bam and Sengun, maybe because both of them are mobile enough to step out of drop-coverage, unlike Gobert and Clingan

and I would put Duren, KAT, Allen, and probably Zubac in the same tier as Gobert and Clingan. Sabonis (weak defense) and Kessler on a tier below although Kessler has developed an 'availability' issue himself. Same for Edey

Where would Clingan be in a re-draft of the 2024 draft?

Since there's no superstar, a team needing a paint protector might choose Clingan #1 in a re-draft. I think it would depend on the team drafting.

The only player you could argue should go ahead of him is Castle, and even that isn't 100%.

He'd easily go 2-4, if not 1-4. That's not to say Sarr or Risacher are busts by any stretch (and they could still end up being better long term).

He's a good example of patience paying off. Which is saying a lot since his rookie year wasn't that bad to begin with. But no one, and I say with all the bass in my voice, no one thought he'd be 16-15-2 per 36's let alone be able to play 30+ minutes a night this soon.
