Joe didn't get fleeced.
The team after the trade deadline with Hart and Winslow was better than the one with McCollum, Roco and Powell.
Hart and Winslow don't fuck around on defense, and Winslow had a huge impact on the ball movement in general and getting Nurkic high-percentage scoring opportunities specifically.
Team fit and asset value are two different things.

My hope is that (if they don’t take Duren) in the second round Portland takes Ismael Kamagate. I got to watch him in person at the all star game in France last year, and he’s been one of the best defenders in French league for a couple years now. If you like the Robert Williams type, you’ll like Kamagate.

How’s this lineup? Is it even possible? Dame, Hart, OG, John Collins, Nurk

It's not that bad of value.

Bouknight is probably heavily undervalued right now, but even so, I'd take #13 over him.

If we can turn 7 + Mil pick + Keon into Grant 13 + 15, it's not crazy.

While I like Collins, he's not much of a perimiter defender. Grant would actually be a better fit in that regard.

agreed on Bouknight. Would also likely go with 13, and move him to Detroit. Although I am guessing Detroit wouldn't see a need in both him and Keon.

This is a bad take.
IMO, Collins is on par with Grant as a defender. Neither one is elite. Both are good/slightly better than average.

I take Collins every day of the week over Grant as a player.

Are you sure or are they just good poker players?
We need to walk away if that's what they are doing. I don't even want to give up #7 for OG. That's not a good deal. Anything added to that from us would be awful.

OG’s advanced numbers are pretty mediocre.

Raptors GM running circles around these noobs.

That's not been the general assessment but I'd love to see some numbers on this.

It’s a risk, guess it depends on whether you think OG has another level in him or if he is what he is.

I'm more concerned about his ability to play the majority of games than if he has another level. I think he does and he's already one of the best on ball defenders in the league.

I went back and watched a couple of games from this year and focused directly on both Grant & Collins to see which one was better. IMO, Collins is CLEARLY the better player. Defensively, they are about equal in my eyes.

The issue with 'numbers' is that they are highly correlated to the team and there is a lot of noise in the defensive metrics. However to appease your request, I'll give you ORtg & DRtg in comparison to the team averages (since they are mostly a team metric). Having said that, I don't put a lot of stock into these metrics.

GRANThttps://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/grantje01.html
Pistons ORtg: 106.0
Grant ORtg: 109 (~3 pnts better with Grant)

Pistons DRtg: 113.8
Grant ORtg: 114 (Grant was average for the team - or did not cause a deviation)

COLLINS https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/collijo01.html
Hawks ORtg: 116.5
Collins ORtg: 122 (~5-6 pnts better with Collins)

Hawks DRtg: 114.9
Collins ORtg: 114 (Collins improved defense for the team)

Neither player had a material difference on their team's defensive performance. John Collins is a significantly better offensive player though.

I would want to know who's available at #7 before trading it.

And with the Timberwolves he was a draft bust on a max contract.
Going from a #1 option on a bad team to a 3rd or 4th option on a great team isn't the same as we would need from these guys.

We don't even have a 2nd player in the ballpark of a Wiggins and Curry is better than our best player.

King reportedly offering Barnes and another ending contract for Collins.
Suns maybe involved in getting OG for Ayton.
Heat and 76'ers trying to get Grant.

Blazers......bridesmaid again?

For once, I wouldn’t mind it.
As one poster once said…

“Not. Swayed.”

None of those players move the needle enough for me to give up #7. Id rather have an outside shot at a legit star.

Supposedly, the Kings offer would be getting Collins w/o giving up their pick. They have better ending contracts to give up than we do.

I don’t think that’s a better deal than atl getting the 7th pick? They’re gonna get expiring money from us to make the deal work anyway

Yes and that’s why I assume we would have to give up #7 (to outbid anyone). No thanks.

I really like the Kings / Hawks idea for both teams.
They Suns / Raptors idea is also very intriguing for both teams.

Since you are hearing some things.... PLEASE tell me that #7 is NOT on the table for Grant.

That’s the issue with having minimal assets. When your one (and only) high value asset is #7 it’s hard to get equal value. In a bidding war you’ll have to (imo) significantly overpay for (imo) marginal upgrades.
