Back from your ban eh? I agree with you here however, I think DJ might be right about this one although as some posters pointed out the economy isn't helping at all.
While it's not helping, it hasn't hurt sales of Duck tickets

It's the Blazers own fault with Comcast, to be honest.

I had no clue there was a game today.

Only a few Duck games though. Say you used to be able to afford 50 sport games a year and now are limited to 20. 8 of your 20 are going to be Ducks instead of 8 of 50.

Yep. Many other markets ran into the same problems before the Comcast deal was signed. They can claim ignorance but it was either being too lazy to pick up a paper or greed.

$ issues aside as that's a big factor here are some more reasons imo:

1. The Blazers are good but they really don't play entertaining basketball. You can call them boring even.

2. The firing of Kevin Pritchard changed the way a lot of fans look at this franchise. KP won the city over from day 1 and the way he went out was a disgrace. Still to this day there has been not one word as to why he was fired. While the situation has cooled off drastically let us not forget how pissed off the people of Portland were at Paul Allen. It was seriously unreal. I think a lot of people haven't gotten over it and I personally don't view the team in the same way anymore. KP made the Blazers, whether it was real or not, look like a close-knit family. Since the day he was fired that's been gone imo. Now all we got is this very secretive front office and I don't think the fans feel as connected to the team as they once did, but maybe that's just me.
This is a good post. And not just because I agree with every bit of it. ;)

When you get drubbed by the Lakers by 20+ and your star doesn't show up, and your coach isn't fired for not having his team ill prepared yet again... the fans think it's 1 and done as usual and the DUCKS seem far more interesting!!!! Why pay for tickets for lackluster play with players who are making more than some professional two income families yearly salaires per game?

I am surprised there is not much mentioning of the Blazers raising ticket prices the last few years. How strange the economy goes in the tank and the Blazers raise their prices again. I am a season ticket holder in section 211. And if I didn't have two friends that each bought half the season I would have let my tickets go.

Same as above, but in 225. I bought tickets before the Oden draft b/c I knew I could start going to games. They were 24 per ticket. Last year (due to a "mistake" in Sales) I didn't get playoff tickets, after being a full STH for 4 years. AND they said the price would be 49 per ticket for this season.

The current incarnation of this team and customer service "mistakes" like that aren't worth me spending $5000 and driving 7 hours to see some games. If I really want to see a game, I'm pretty sure I can find a ticket. And I'm one of the lucky ones who can get Comcast and League Pass.

I'm assuming that Detroit was at least part of 2 of those sellouts.

Well to be honest, a lot of teams were part of those sellouts, yet if you went to the game, you were questioning if it was a sell out if you know what I am saying.

oh yeah I'm sure that those "sell outs" had included promotional tickets they gave away, that werent even taken by whomever. Sad that its come to those still being left over. Not being able to give them away.

thats true. But I bet they could have kept getting away with the price increases had the team gelled like hoped, and injuries didnt take a toll etc. But yeah no way in hell I feel like spending $35 a pop for nosebleed last row seats in the Regular season. Go F yourself Vulcans if you think I'll pay that.

Not sure what the big deal is. There's probably a handful of teams that sell out games. The fact the Blazers do it consistenly is pretty remarkable. The Heat aren't even selling out games. I see no reason for concern.

There never is a reason for concern until you get Seattle SuperSonic'd. :ohno:

I don't understand what Comcast has to do with people not knowing there's a game tonight...

I also don't understand the comcast issue. If more people got it on comcast, or on dish or whatever, that might be even fewer people that would go. Because you can't see some games means you refuse to go to others?

Out of sight, out of mind?

The good thing is I'm able to get good seats for pretty cheap right now! :)

Not being concerned means less hits to the website and less listeners and callers to his radio show.

Sometimes i really wish we had a 2nd pro team in the region, so the local media wouldn't be so god damn idiotic.

LOL, if we lose tonight, Blazer nation will come crumbling down.

I think we have a bunch of pathetic "fans" in here that can't handle being first in the Northwest.

I suggest Allen take it another step, and refund half of the gate he's already collected this season.

This is a quality thread, guys.

I don't live in Portland and I'm less concerned about attendance and the popular mood around the team than many here, but I am interested to hear about what is impacting even hard core fans (because, let's face it, we're al pretty hard core if we post here regularly).

I look forward to having more evidence about KP's dismissal... that'll be either when he gets a new job or he gets hired for a lesser job, I think.

Ed O.

I think you just got your answer Ed.

Big City Professional Becomes Small City Baker
Far away from the NBA bright lights there is a small bakery in downtown Bloomington, Indiana with a not so typical baker. "Yeah this is definitely a change of pace" says the 43 year old ex-General Manager of the Portland Trail Blazers, Kevin Pritchard as he pulls out one of his piping hot confections. "I finally found my passion", he says with a smile.

It may seem like such a big jump to go from being a beloved General Manager of a professional basketball team to a professional baker but Kevin doesn't see it that way. "When you think about it, building a NBA team is a lot like building a cake. Mixing the right ingredients, putting it in the oven for just the right amount of time and then you need that perfect icing. I admit that the icing is always hard to get down. It's been one of my weaknesses. It's either too soupy or too thick and pasty. Now that I've got all this free time I've finally got the right icing for my cake".

It turns out that baking & cakes in particular have been been a big part of Kevin's life, even while at Portland cake played a large role. "You know some of my biggest transactions were inspired by cake. Like when Nate came to me and said we need a tall guy, someone with height, I immediately thought of billowy, soft Angel Food cake & drafted LaMarcus. On the flipside I was baking a Devil's Food cake when we drafted Oden. With a Devil's Food, the devil is definitely in the details! One of my best pickups was when I was going through a Petit Fours craze and grabbed Batum thinking he might have the secret french techniques to prefect my recipe. Rudy's situation was similar, since I brought him in to help translate this old Magdalenas recipe I had from a distant grandma".

When asked if his baking or love of cakes ever got in the way of his decision making he replied "You know, I don't think so. I am doubtful that it really did. You know one thing that really bothered me was that Nate loved my cakes that didn't turn out. Like when I was still an assistant and I was really demanding we get Jarret Jack, during that time I was baking this god awful fruit cake. Nate was the only won who loved that fruit cake and kept wanting more and more of it". Pritchard then paused for a moment of self musing and said "You know maybe it did have something to do with my failures & that whole situation. The real reason Penn was fired was due to us lying about him going to an interview with the Timberwolves. Really he was at the Pillsbury Bakeoff with our Peanut Butter "Tip-Offs", obviously Pillsbury doesn't know a good recipe when they see one as our recipe only finished 16th." Kevin then sighed and went quiet for moment.

For fans still wonder about his sudden departure on draft day & if things could have been done differently Kevin replied "You know, I am not a perfect man. On draft day I had a trade of Chris Paul for Rudy, Pryzbilla & Batum but there were a few hiccups. I was building this team as a cake and I needed the icing. Paul is no icing, he's like a huge chunk of cake. You don't just take this cake you've worked on for years and slap this huge funky piece of cake on top. It just doesn't work that way. Even after removing Rudy's, Pryz's & Batum's pieces, there wouldn't have been enough room and it would have made the cake all lopsided. Did you know that Chris Paul likes a Krispie Kreme / Mountain Dew pudding cake concoction? I was building the Blazers in the mold of a German Chocolate cake, you don't put Mountain Dew cake in a German Chocolate cake, it just doesn't work out that way! Plus, to a lesser extent Rudy had almost translated the Magdalenas recipe, Batum & I were popping out some of the best Petit Fours that side of the rockies & Przybilla... I mean where would I get my vanilla without Pryzbilla? Now I explained this all to Paul & Monty and their jaws were wide open when they heard I declined the Paul trade for these reasons. They then told me to immediately pack my things and leave the building. In the end it was probably a good thing as I had a cake baking at home and thankfully got there before it burned."

So, uh, looking at the boxscore, I see that 20, 500+ people attended tonight's game...

Hey, look at that - that place was full once again. Who cares if they offered up half-price tickets to previous mailing list customers? Has anyone been watching the NBA this season? The Indiana-Denver game tonight drew less than half capacity in a basketball crazy city. Miami isn't selling out with the Big 3. Portland still is in a small market.
