Dwight Jaynes suggests players may be tuning out Nate

A coaching change won't fix anything if the pieces don't fit.

I hate Dwight Jaynes very much. But I could see it. Would be odd that the one who isnt tuning him out, is the one who had a run in with him last year in Andre.

Something tells me if we got Poppovich or Phil Jackson we'd do a WEE bit better. ;)

I don't think there are too many coaches currently available who would fix much, so I agree with you there.

Is it true Adelman only has a one year deal with Houston?

I agree with this, but also think Nate isn't a coach that get a team to the proverbial "next level." Andre needs to go anyway because there's simply no long-term future with him here.

Maybe. But how successful has Popovich been with Richard Jefferson? A bad fit is a bad fit. Another thing that you need to consider is that Phil Jackson for the most part, rarely gets players who don't fit his system. When he has a player who doesn't fit, they get shipped out. See Vladimir Radmonavich. Maybe it has a lot more with the management and the coaching staff being on the same page, rather than disconnected.

Where have I heard that before?

it doesn't matter, Dwight has no idea what he is talking about since he isn't 100% pro Balzers 100% of the time

Jefferson is killing it so far this year unfortunately.

Popvich >>>> Nate.

It's not even close.

probably even further apart than that lol.

6 years is a pretty long run in the NBA, that's a long time to listen to one voice. Are they tuning him out? Who knows, but even if they are, an interim coach isn't likely to right this ship, the parts don't seem to quite fit together.

Six years for who? Lots of turnover of the players means who? Pryz is tuning out Nate? Very doubtful.

5th year for Roy and Aldridge. This is where there might be some friction. Anybody know what these two REALLY think?

Six year run for a coach -- that's a long time.

EDIT:
What I mean isn't that every player on the roster has been under Nate for that long, but the extent to which a coach maintains the trust of his players usually hinges on getting them to buy into what he's selling. If the team starts to get to the point where they no longer believe in that voice or direction -- even if a player hasn't been there for every minute of his tenure -- it's not uncommon for players to tune a coach out.

I don't despise Nate like some do, but I think it's reasonable to expect him to wear out his welcome at some point ... maybe that's happening now :dunno:

Nate strength is his ability to get guys to buy into the system and play hard. If he has lost that, he has lost his biggest asset to this team, IMO.

And if one was going to judge by last night's game, either Roy is hurt or the coach has lost the leader of the team.

OR Roy doesn't like playing with Miller and/or someone else on the team. I think the rest of your post is spot on! Repped.

I just have to add...

BNM suggests fans may be tuning out Dwight Jaynes.

Seriously, who listens to this guy anymore? Although I'd love to see Nate and his totally predictable, unimaginative, easily scouted offense go, it's not going to happen during the season unless the team totally takes a nose dive and is in danger of missing the play-offs. And, I don't want that to happen, so we're stuck with Nate, for now.

You guys are focusing too much on the messenger instead of the message. It's not revolutionary to suggest that a listless team is tuning its coach out.

Forget who said it, and concentrate on what was said.

A great example of them tuning him out is his constant urging to push the ball on the sidelines. He does this, yet the Blazers finish last in fast break points and pace. So if he really wants them to do it, and they don't..........

No it's not. But at the same time you have to understand that Jaynes has pretty much been anti McMillan from the start, so his view is skewed. Is he looking at it objectively as a journalist, or is he just another Blazer fan with a voice for his displeasure?

Seriously, the guy doesn't even have a media credential and half the time he says on his show he doesn't even watch the Blazers because they are on too late. I've heard him say that many times.

People should take his speculation as nothing more than some kind of erroneous subtrefuge.

'Dre is the only main cog that hasn't been asked to adapt his game. If I see him shoot another 3-pointer this year, I just may charge the court and tackle him.

Jefferson is doing one thing well this year, and that is shooting the ball. 65% FG, 60% 3pt. Both are far above his career norm. What is troubling to me about Jefferson is that he is rebounding less and assisting less. Those shots aren't going to fall all season; at some point he'll revert back to his norm, and if he isn't rebounding or passing, that spells trouble.

A 24 PER on 20 ppg/65% FG/60% 3pt. isn't very good in the big picture.

Sometimes I think they do tune him out, but at the same time I'm not sure if they are. I do think the offense has been pretty poorly run, and also they don't take advantage of the players they should.

In a way, I wish they would get rid of Nate, but I'm not sure who they have on the team who A: would be a better coach and B: would stay to coach.

I would bet Bernie Bickerstaff wouldn't stay.

Buck probably wouldn't be a good coach (right now, or maybe ever)
Bob O I don't know enough about.

Probably our best "bet" would be Terry Porter or some retread coach.

Perhaps Cho could take over like Pritchard did after Mo was fired?

Dwight Jaynes knows nothing more about anything than any other poster on this board - it's his job to stir the pot with speculation, and that's what he's doing. Saying "forget the messenger" is silly. The messenger is the source, so you should definitely take that into account. We're 5-3, having played 3 back-to-backs, 5 road games and having blown a game at home that we dominated for much of the night. I'd hardly say we're screwed. Oh, and there's the minor detail that we're still missing two 7' centers that will certainly help the cause when they return.

Ok, back to the rampant speculation and gnashing of teeth!

Best post in the history of this dump! Well typed FAMS!

If so, who would replace Nate? It's not like there's anyone better because there are a hell of a lot worse people. I don't want this team to turn into another Bulls or Hornets where we just rebuild after a few years of above average play and then go through the lottery only to be back to where we were.

Besides, I don't know if I trust Dwight Jaynes. The guy is losing it out there, not getting the attention he craved when he worked for the paper.
