I'm just a peon. I only have the green font b/c I found a "cheap jersey" post in the Mariners' forum one day and they told me to be a GM and delete it.
But I think that Nate's going to leave when he wants to. It may be a resignation b/c he doesn't want to work with the new high-priced GM genius we bring in, but he won't be fired by PA, Miller or anyone else, imo.
(Note to the peon mods: Denny instructed the uberboard that it is of paramount importance that this thread continue. I'll pretend the previous 80 posts doen't exist and carry on.)
It's true that in any company, it's common for a new head guy to want to install his own henchmen for loyalty, so as to not threaten his little ego's fragile hold on power.
In basketball, new GMs usually just wait a year until the normal cycle of changing the coach revolves around. But the Blazers have a marathon man for a coach who at the end of his contract in 2013 will rank 20th in all-time NBA longevity with the same team. Approaching Jerry Sloan godliness in Portland, this ne'er-do-well Nate McMillan is only in his 40s and will no doubt last till he's in his 80s, never winning in the playoffs. This entrenched opposition to any new GM will be a challenge of epic proportion.
So it will take a devious, cunning GM to upend the rock of ages we have at coach. This new Machiavellian GM will probably come from the Pentagon. We need experience in the overthrow of established regimes, and he will need connections to detach McMillan from the needy psyches of 2 million Portlandists. A new ideology will have to be invented, a synthesis of what is being overthrown with the divine model under which we live in the home country, Washington, D.C. We have to get the Portlandist old guard, the ones we let live, into participation in the new system.
This new GM should be able to claim Portland roots, even though he's lived under State Dept. protection in Washington for 30 years, and speak Portlandgese without an accent. He should dress in native garb when he returns and descend from the plane like a god.
I have a long list of candidates, but I think it would be best if we cut to the chase and interview only our Number 1 choice. Henry Kissinger. Think of it. We don't need any George Schultz. Here is my suggested organization chart, reporting to the Vulcans.

With steadfast determination, we can obtain our goal and rid the Blazers of this menace.
