No, that was me. But only after you took an incredibly cheap, disrespectful and demeaning shot at him for simply expressing an opinion you did not agree with. When you couldn’t offer an intelligent rebuttal, you took the cheap shot. When @SlyPokerDog didn’t call you out, I did. And as a Navy vet, I have absolutely no problem making Marine jokes. It’s in our DNA. Get over it.
You were the one that started it, then riverman joined in lol.

And while you’re telling me to “get over it” tell that to yourself, and riverman, who keeps complaining about people being insensitive or something.

And I seem to remember you guys getting super butthurt after I started joking about the navy.

Continue your maneuvers off the coast of California, sailor.

easy to do when you have an ignore free job...nobody can ignore you! As to the other assholes who want to insult everybody....ban the fuckers...the angst grows like moss on a maple.....the standard rule should be post about a subject and stay in your lane period....you shouldn't have to put Slypokerdog in place of riverman and play defense for anyone....hecklers should just get the boot..stop pandering to the few that are habitually looking to insult and ban em....my 2 cents....you lose one of these guys....you might get a dozen new folks posting without insulting....
Get the fuck over it.

How do I not know what? I have heard many people use "edumacate" and it was never once directed at anything black. It was mostly about uneducated rednecks, and said with a redneck twang.

I am legitimately asking you how this one is tied to racism.

Seems to me it's just a slang term that people have used for a while. Nothing ties it to any kind of racism.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=edumacate

And if I search "edumacate racism" on google literally nothing comes up.

Who was the urban dictionary created by?

Certainly not the people who made up those "urban" terms...

You're being obtuse. It's racist. He only said that because I'm black. Who else does @Nate think should edumacate themselves? Anyone white?

Ah!
Navy here, way before your time no doubt. It was always Fleet Marines I on my team when we had to go ashore though.
Ha! A few times with a carburetor attached to a Marine that had the job of hanging onto my pocket. The carburetor
is a Fire Control Radar transponder. The ships main battery fire control system would track this, literal training on the Marine.
But I could spot the fire off to where we wanted it.
Anyway, I guess this is why I never did pick up the on the Marine shit, UCD mentioned.

Go back to guarding the Naval Base gates, jarhead.

:argument:

I’m not reading all this BS. Just learn to be a bit more selective of the words you use. I’m known to be one of the more abrasive “liberals” on this site but I never get edited or posts erased. I walk the line. I laugh at politicians, situations, and keep my insults aimed at topics not posters. It gets the job done.

You're being vague. Who made up the term? Are you saying black people made it up? If it was widely used slang for racism, don't you think there'd be something about it online? Have you heard the term before used as a racial insult? And why does it have to be a racial insult and not just a slam at someone's intelligence?

I have heard people use this term before, so if it actually has a racist origin, I would like to know it. I apologize for not just taking your word, but I would never just accept a statement from someone without something factual to back it up. "It just is" isn't enough for me.

Yes it was someone black who made up the term. White folks just decided to put it online.

Saying "edumacate" to a black person is racist 101.

Especially one with a degree.

Only that I said no such thing. Jesus fucking Christ...

If It weren't for black people you wouldn't even know that phrase.

#Yourewelcomeforhavingyourlifeenriched
If you can't remember all the things you say here I can't help you.
Every black person in the planet would though...

And this is why I'm DONE with the OT section.

As far as urban language and black culture I'd recommend some folks read Langston Hughes...he invented the language of jazz....contributed so much vocabulary that was added to the dictionary....he coined the phrase "cool" for one....great American playwriter and poet....a lot of our urban vocabulary came from New York City in his heyday....we all use language from that period of Americana..

It's an old term, from what I can tell. The only source I have found that actually seems to go into the origin of the word is this:

http://listserv.linguistlist.org/pipermail/ads-l/2005-April/048952.html

Not sure how accurate this is. They don't cite all their sources. The word seems to be mostly tried to Popeye the Sailor in the 50s and 60s.

"Edumacation" is chiefly associated not with Homer Simpson but another
epenthesis-prone cartoon character, Popeye.

-----
http://www.popeye-n-olive.com/characters.htm
Although Olive is equally smitten with her heroic sailor, she's still
easily impressed by anyone who has more "edumacation and ettiket" than
Popeye.
-----

The only example I've found so far from the archives of "Thimble Theater
Starring Popeye" is with the spelling "edjamacation":

-----
1959 _Lancaster Eagle Gazette_ (Ohio) 27 Aug. 31 ["Thimble Theatre" comic
strip by Tom Sims and B. Zaboly] Age makes no difference... Every blastid
people is guaranteed an edjamacation an' me pappy didn't get his!!
-----

There are also listings on eBay and the rec.collecting newsgroup for a
1962 Viewmaster reel entitled "Swee'Pea's Edjamacation".

The earliest examples for "edumacation" and "edumacated" that I've found
are from two 1925 columns in a Virgina newspaper written in jocular German
dialect spelling.

It has been pretty closely tied to uneducated white people, and from that same link they have associated it to white people using it as an insult to someone's intelligence, in some cases black people.

c1941 R. WILLIAMS in J. Mellon _Bullwhip Days_ (2002) 129 Dere am no
edumacation for de n*****s.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0802138683/?v=search-inside&keywords=edumacation
-----

Mellon's _Bullwhip Days_ unfortunately does not give much background
information on the narratives, but I believe this is the reference for the
original transcription:

Rose Williams, Manuscript Slave Narrative Collection, Federal Writers'
Project, 1941, vol. 17, Texas Narratives, Pt. 4, pp. 174-178, quoted in
Nancy Woloch, ed., Early American Women: A Documentary History, 1600-1900
(New York: McGraw-Hill, 1997), 245-246.
-----

The FWP slave narratives were first published in B. A. Botkin's _Lay My
Burden Down_ (1945). But Botkin cleaned up the transcriptions, as
explained in the preface: "In accordance with the same criteria of truth
and readability, the original attempts at dialect-writing, successful and
unsuccessful, were abandoned, except for a few characteristic and
expressive variations." So the above sentence from Rose Williams is
rendered as: "There am no education for the n*****s."

So it seems to me that it is actually something that white trash has been using for a long time, not something that was invented by black people, but it has been used as an insult towards black people as well as poor white trash. That's the best I can come up with, but I don't see it specifically as an insult to black people. Mostly it's an insult to uneducated people.

Maybe @Nate would disagree but I read his response as a sarcastic way of calling YOU a racist moron. Not black people in general, just you.

I think he was thinking of those black guys like I've seen on YouTube that tell white people we're all gonna die and to worship black men as our true kings. There was one video I saw a few years ago that would show what I'm talking about. Can't find it now.

Seem like it would be best if we are not all required to know this sort of drivel.
But thanks for doing the work needed to confirm the point.

I just had never heard anyone say that edumacate was racist before. No offense to Dviss but I need more than "it just is" and "this is racist 101" to actually support a claim like that. If something is truly racist, there would be evidence of it online.

unless you have your safe filter on your computer...truly racist stuff online won't show up unless you turn it off just like porn won't .....plenty of ugly shit out there if you really want to find it...or you can just read OT here.
