Would he be a max player if he could defend?

With his scoring ability and elite rebounding I think easily yes.

He was a max player 4 years ago. :dunno:

Yes, I agree with you. It's honestly amazing to me how a player with his skillset can basically be deemed "unplayable" in certain situations due to his defensive deficiencies. You have to wonder if it's an issue that he's tried to work on and has simply been unable to improve, or if he just doesn't care about that side of the floor.

Yes he was but that was the days of $18million max deals, not $30million.

I don't get this either. He seems great moving in the oppositions paint, quite quick feet and great touch but becomes a statue on defense. Part of this must be effort.

There was one play last night where the guy with the ball had Kanter in front of him. He started to driver\ and Kanter switched over to Faried(I think thats who it was) and left the lane wide open! I get he switched to the bigger guy in case of a dump off, but when so close to the hoop, dont you always defend ON ball?

That one tripped me out. It was almost as if he sidestepped to just let the guy with the ball by.

With that said, Im loving some Kanter!!!!

I think it more effort because even on the boards last night he put a lot effort on the offensive boards because he likes to score. But defense side he got 4 boards but he wasn't as dominating as the offensive end. But he has some dominating games on the boards in his career so don't get me wrong.

With the defensive PnR philosophy of Stotts, what is Kanter supposed to do? He looked just like Nurk the first few weeks of this season. It's unnatural to leave your man but not fully commit to stopping the ball handler either. Against teams like Brooklyn it leaves the big on an island having to instantly decide which of two options to cut off. As we know once Ed gets the ball going to his left it's practically automatic. On offense every time Brooklyn did the same coverage it led to an easy shot for us too.
