GTFOH with your garbage takes. So we're doing this annually are we
He was an Oscar winner.OK, we get it, he was good. And yes, it was a tragedy that he (and more so, his daughter and friend) died so senselessly. But didn't we already do the grieving as a nation bit? How often is this going to come up? And do we have to pretend that he was more than a very very good basketball player? Like, do we have to pretend he was some kind of modern saint? Because it's getting tiresome.
But on the other hand, I can just shut the fuck up and let people mourn their hero. So I'll do that now.
Oh should they have ran this by you first? Are you offended in some way?
UnrealNever realized compassion could offend people so badly.
Like Harvey Weinstein. He was an Oscar winner.
If only the tragic deaths (or lives) of non-famous people hurt people the same way.Sometimes things can bother you or you don’t get it but you have to know when to just shut it. This is one of those times. Kobe was young and perhaps at one time the most famous athlete in America, and the world. He was with his little girl and died in an absolutely tragic and sudden way. His death effected people in a deep way. It’s only been a year.
I personally agree, it's tiresome but to your second point I just ignore it all.OK, we get it, he was good. And yes, it was a tragedy that he (and more so, his daughter and friend) died so senselessly. But didn't we already do the grieving as a nation bit? How often is this going to come up? We saw him on TV at least once or twice a week for 20 years! Even as a non-Laker fan, his presence was ubiquitous.Sometimes things can bother you or you don’t get it but you have to know when to just shut it. This is one of those times. CoolIf it makes anyone feel better, I was just as cruel and heartless about Lady Di.
Kobe was 40, Hank Aaron 86. Kobe was with his young daughter.I think it is fine for fans to mourn the death of Kobe. The annoying part however comes from the fact that it is media-driven. Do you think if Kobe played for Portland there would be national attention on the 1 year anniversary? Will the media even mention Hank Aaron one year from now? Personally, there have been way too many deaths this year for me to mourn for Kobe more than any of the others.
Ugh. This is all so dumb. "My neighbor Brenda was a great person, why isnt she on the news?!" . This happened when John Lennon died, when Jimmy Dean died, when a famous person dies, this happens. Sekou Smith isnt a household name.Isn't Sekou Smith just as good a human being as Kobe? Who will be remembering him a year from now?

They do sir, you just don’t hear about it.If only the tragic deaths (or lives) of non-famous people hurt people the same way.
Yes, they both should be mourned.
It still comes down to one was a Laker and one was not. It still comes down to the media.
I live in LA and I see the hypocrisy every day with their heroes.
Are you trying to defend it or just saying people are shallow?Ugh. This is all so dumb. "My neighbor Brenda was a great person, why isnt she on the news?!" . This happened when John Lennon died, when Jimmy Dean died, when a famous person dies, this happens. Sekou Smith isnt a household name.
Oh good, thats helpful. Next time we have any emotions we will be sure to run them past you first. Thank god you are here.Ask yourself, who are you mourning for? It ain't Kobe, because he's not suffering (unless you think he's in hell). Don't tell me it's his family, because you'd be lying. Basically you're mourning because a part of your past died. Focus on other things. You didn't know him.
I am saying it is completely reasonable that on the 1 year anniversary of someone like Kobe suddenly dying there would be a lot of coverage/press/emotions about it, not just in LA but everywhere. Are you trying to defend it or just saying people are shallow?
