Even if we were rebuilding, I'd still probably do the Lopez trade. Lopez is less than 2 years older than Withey, and a proven NBA starting center. His game does not rely (at all) on athleticism, it relies on his size - which isn't going to diminish anytime soon. Lopez will still likely be an above average starting center when Lillard, Batum, McCollum, etc. are all in their primes.

That's one of the reasons Lopez is such a good fit. In addition to giving us the big body starting center to bang down low for 25 minutes a game, that LaMarcus requested in his exit interview, Lopez is young enough to fit well with the rest of our roster.

I was hoping for Lopez as a FA last year when we failed on Hibbert. Was disappointed when it sounded like we didn't make any effort. I was a big fan and always thought he was undervalued. My concern with Lopez was (and remains) injuries. After this last year, I'm hoping he's beyond them. If so, I think he's going to play a big role in us surprising a lot of folks. So make no mistake, I'm happy with the deal.

What serious injuries has he had, and when was the last time he was injured? He started all 82 games last season and played in 64 of 66 two seasons ago backing up Gortat in Phoenix. Looks like he missed 15 games three seasons ago. Not exactly serious injury territory.

The biggest concern I have with Lopez is his rebounding, especially defensive rebounding. He has a lower rebounding rate than LaMarcus and that is one of LMA weaker aspects of his game. I hope our starting five gels as a unit but being a good defender doesn't mean much if the other team keeps the ball when they miss.

I think we made a good choice in getting rid of the TrOut.

I can't believe Sacramento has him signed for two more years until 2015. Worst amnesty or waiver claim ever.

Makes me think more highly of Nate as a coach. He got some amazing production out of untalented players like Outlaw, Rudy, Pryz. Don't get me wrong, he has many shortcomings as a coach. But he had some great strengths.

He had injuries in 2009-10 and 2010-11. You took my quote to another level by adding "serious". I never said "serious". So it seems odd to try to make a point by adding that, when I didn't say "serious" injuries.

Phoenix always had some concerns about his durability. That's a big reason why they limited his minutes so much a couple of years. He had a bulging disc in his back. Anyone who's ever had back issues knows that back issues rarely go away completely. And to add the fact that we have a horrendous track record with big men (you may or may not be aware of this), and yes, my biggest concern with Lopez is his health.

Why don't you spend some time asking me to clarify my point if you're confused, rather than put words in my mouth and shoot down a point I never made?

I haven't looked up the stats myself, but I thought I remember seeing something about how his teammates all rebound much better with him on the floor than without. If we see more rebounding out of LA next season, I'll buy in to the theory that Lopez helps make his mates better rebounders, even if Lopez's stats aren't what we'd like them to be. For me, as long as we're getting it done, I don't care about individual stats.

bold for current players + math are mine.

15th man Freeland is ranked as a 14.7th man
14th man Claver is ranked as a 14.1st man
13th man Crabbe is ranked as a 13.7th man
12th man Barton is ranked as a 12.5th man

I could nitpick but I basically agree with these conclusions.

Hmm pretty generous rankings when I look at it that way. I think those players are all below the league average for end of the bench. Freeland was ranked much higher than he should've been. Claver is a guy that provides value in some areas on the court. Freeland has been horrific.

I expect our second unit to rank well, much higher than league 6-10 man average. That would be 151-300th place.

14th man Claver is ranked as a 14.1st man
13th man Crabbe is ranked as a 13.7th man
12th man Barton is ranked as a 12.5th man

379 Will Barton 374/30= 12.5th man should be 379 Will Barton 379/30= 12.6th man
and
370 Earl Watson 370/30= 12.3rd man

No surprises in our 3rd team. There will be a couple of surprising rankings in our 2nd team--Leonard, Robinson, Wright, McCollum, and Williams.

15th man Freeland (441) is ranked as a 14.7th man
14th man Claver (422) is ranked as a 14.1st man
13th man Crabbe (412) is ranked as a 13.7th man
12th man Barton (379) is ranked as a 12.6th man
11th man Watson (370) is ranked as a 12.3rd man

thanks, jlprk for catching the error, it's fixed and Watson has been added.

The overall conclusion here is that ESPN thinks our 3rd stringers are just that, 3rd stringers. We'll get more details in the next couple of weeks, but so far none of the remaining blazers are 300 or worse. This means that our players 6 through 10 are better than 10th men.

379 Will Barton 374/30= 12.5th man should be 379 Will Barton 379/30= 12.6th man

370 Earl Watson 370/30= 12.3rd man

I expect our bench players to be ranked in this order:

Mo Williams
CJ McCollum
Dorrell Wright
Meyers Leonard
Thomas Robinson

I disagree; I think Dorrell Wright will come in ahead of CJ.

Is this list setup to have #1 revelead right as training camp starts?

Seems like it.

The ESPN Rankings have gone down to 276 and no new Blazers have apperared.

Here's a better way to look at the data:
Blazer's 15th man: 14.7, Average 15th man: 14.5 >>>>> Net: -0.2
Blazer's 14th man: 14.1, Average 14th man: 13.5 >>>>> Net: -0.6
Blazer's 13th man: 13.7, Average 13th man: 12.5 >>>>> Net: -1.2
Blazer's 12th man: 12.6, Average 12th man: 11.5 >>>>> Net: -1.1
Blazer's 11th man: 12.3, Average 11th man: 10.5 >>>>> Net: -1.8

So, ESPN actually thinks our 3rd stringers are an average of 1.0 positions worse than average. For our 10th man to be a league average 10th man in ESPNs eyes, he must not show up in the rankings until 9.5*30=285. We're already below that, so things are starting out looking better for our 2nd string than our 3rd. Fortunately, the 2nd string is much more important than the 3rd string.

note: I know that the average 14th man is actually 13.55 and the same applies to all the others, I'm trying to keep it simple especially since the error bars on these data are humongous.

Down to 268 and none of our rotation players yet. Not bad.

Update ("Down" to 254):

Blazer's 10th man: 8.5, Average 10th man: 9.5 >>>>> Net: +1.0
-------
Blazer's 11th man: 12.3, Average 11th man: 10.5 >>>>> Net: -1.8
Blazer's 12th man: 12.6, Average 12th man: 11.5 >>>>> Net: -1.1
Blazer's 13th man: 13.7, Average 13th man: 12.5 >>>>> Net: -1.2
Blazer's 14th man: 14.1, Average 14th man: 13.5 >>>>> Net: -0.6
Blazer's 15th man: 14.7, Average 15th man: 14.5 >>>>> Net: -0.2

Already, our bench is looking better than their peers. ESPN slates our 10th man as better than the average 10th man, and our 9th man better than the average 9th man (whose not been chosen yet.)

10th man Leonard (255) is ranked as 8.5th man
-------
11th man Watson (370) is ranked as a 12.3rd man
12th man Barton (379) is ranked as a 12.6th man
13th man Crabbe (412) is ranked as a 13.7th man
14th man Claver (422) is ranked as a 14.1st man
15th man Freeland (441) is ranked as a 14.7th man

It looks like they have a higher opinion of TRob than you and Eastoff do (or maybe they have a lower opinion of Leonard).

Sometimes, I love when I'm wrong! I didn't know much about TRob, but I didn't think he got as much exposure as Meylee
