i would assume that considering they are REALLY close to the same player.
Bazemore and Harkless? Bazemore is more of a 3&D guy and Harkless is a slasher&D.

are you saying they dont keep any of their free agents at all for this year?

If we sign Mirotic, it would mean Hood, Kanter and Curry are gone at a minimum. They can still sign Aminu, but at at that point....why? You signed his replacement.

Big deals are going to be harder with only Harkless and Leonards contracts. I suppose you can throw Skal's 2M in any deal, but Blazers are likely not getting a big name this summer.

Not like that was gonna happen anyways, but now it's a lot harder.

Yeah you would have to add Zach to get Love. Griffin would now have to wait until the deadline.

Mirotic's production fell off a cliff last year, too risky unless it's a 1-year deal.

Bazemore is going to start at SF.

Really like this. Bazemore's shooting percentages may not look like much on paper but he's MUCH more of an outside threat than Turner. And he's very active on defense. If we no longer need Turner to be the point-forward with Simmons coming on then this really makes sense. Much better fit.

Bazemore was playing really well last year until he got hurt for about a month. So much so that I actually had him on my fantasy team. Afterwards he could never get consistent minutes with all of the young SG/SF's that Atlanta has.

Trade Harkless and sign either Hood or Kanter to full MLE, retain Layman and Aminu.

Did they though? His numbers in New Orleans were in line, and in some ways better, than the previous year. He wasn’t bad in Milwaukee either, he just played less.

I think there is a good chance, if Bazemore does well in training camp (in terms of learning the plays, understanding our defensive schemes), that he could start at SF and they move Harkless up to PF temporarily until Nurk comes back.

Baze was the SF starter on a 48 win ATL playoff team, and Harkless could presumably get better looks playing the 4 instead of the 3....Just a thought.

We do have assets we could trade to better balance the team.

I think we can make this the longest thread in this forums history.

Bazemore's contract will be available for aggregation as of 8/24. However, I imagine that if Neil plans on using our expiring deals in trade (I'm not holding my breath), it will be near the deadline rather than this summer.

With this trade, we could still, in theory, trade Meyers/Harkless/Trent for Kevin Love.

I don’t know what people are smoking. Kent Bazemore had a horrible effective Field goal percentage of 47% last season. That’s the same as Evan Turner.
Maurice Harkless has never been that bad. Harkless shot an effective field goal percent of 53% last season.
This is a sideways trade for Evan Turner.

This is a sideways trade and I really don’t give a crap.

Yet here you are.

Sure, I just meant the big guys. Ie. Love/Griffin etc. just became less likely. From like 1% to .001%...
Im not advocating this but now that we are 2/3 heavy why couldn't you pkg our starting 2 for a legit 4? Prob not happen but we do have assets for a home run swing if a make since deal is there.

Yeah, that's why I specified "this summer" in my original response.

From some Hawks forums....

I absolutely do not understand this trade in the slightest
Very smart timing by the hawks for this news to get out once the Cam Reddish conference ended so they wouldn’t have to answer any questions regarding this

I'm a little confused
I know Baze was leaving anyway, but why trade him on his last year for a guy with a similar contract? Baze is useful so this is kind of confusing. Also they are near the same age soooo…yeah…whaaat???

The Hawks have been good about trading their vets to favorable teams with good situations.
Looks like they did Bazemore a solid while keeping their 2020 capspace intact.

Either way, i’ll be rooting for the Blazers (when they’re not playing the Hawks).
