Trade ET Traded

I think Bazemore's numbers are gonna blow here. I just checked and his career USG% is about 20.6% and he's never dipped below that since 2014....

No Blazer small forward has had a 20% usage rate since Nicolas Batum.....in 2011.

Baze is gonna camp in the corner and hopefully hit some threes.

From some Hawks forums....

I absolutely do not understand this trade in the slightest
Very smart timing by the hawks for this news to get out once the Cam Reddish conference ended so they wouldn’t have to answer any questions regarding this

I'm a little confused
I know Baze was leaving anyway, but why trade him on his last year for a guy with a similar contract? Baze is useful so this is kind of confusing. Also they are near the same age soooo…yeah…whaaat???

The Hawks have been good about trading their vets to favorable teams with good situations.
Looks like they did Bazemore a solid while keeping their 2020 capspace intact.

Either way, i’ll be rooting for the Blazers (when they’re not playing the Hawks).

It'll certainly help the Hawks reach higher potential with their own 2020 draft pick.

Yeah, that's why I specified "this summer" in my original response.
8/24 is still this summer. But that's just semantics.

My point was that while yes, that salary ballast is no longer available for a while, it seemed (to me) highly unlikely that such a deal would have been consummated this summer anyway, so there's very little opportunity cost here.

I don't like this. Yes, Turner had a terrible contract, but he also had PG skills and was a solid defender and could score in the low post. Most importantly, if we were to trade for Kevin Love, it would be using his contract. This trade is an acknowledgement that that's not happening. Also it looks like an acknowledgement that we're losing either or both of Hood and Aminu.
And Bazemore's contract is at least as bad (cost-to-talent) as Turner.

Yeah, I like this less the more I think about it. Turner had talents that we needed, whereas Bazemore duplicates Harkless and Little.
Looks more to me like Layman will be brought back now

I acknowledged that as well in my original post.

Either way, I'm just glad because even if we do nothing else for the rest of the summer we've already accomplished the biggest addition-by-subtraction move we could have done.

I would hope he would have anyway. I doubt he'll receive any lucrative offers. It's important for teams to keep cheap players.

Evan Turner
Al Farouq Aminu
Moe Harkless

The three most frustrating/annoying/least respected (by other teams) players on the roster since the retool in 2015.

One down.

I don't think this means anything in terms of Hood other than we probably aren't opening up the Full-MLE. So his decision will be the same as it was before this trade which is either take the Tax-MLE for below market value or move on.

This does however allow us to use Harkless as our "dump" contract instead of Leonard if Hood did re-sign. Like it or not, Leonard is probably going to be needed until Nurk is healthy.

I don’t know what people are smoking. Kent Bazemore had a horrible effective Field goal percentage of 47% last season. That’s the same as Evan Turner.
Maurice Harkless has never been that bad. Harkless shot an effective field goal percent of 53% last season.
This is a sideways trade for Evan Turner.

3 things:
  1. Everyone shoots better in Stott's system.
  2. Everyone who plays off of Dame and CJ shoots better.
  3. Turner, Harkless, and Aminu all did, so why wouldn't Bazemore?

I know you as well as everyone has been mad at Meyers over the years, but I'd entertain keeping him and bringing him back if he wanted to play for less.

He's a great teammate and I think he's found his niche here.

I'd supply the towels he can wave if I got assurance that he'd never set foot on the court in a game.

NO MORE ET

Now get Leonard off this team and it's the best offseason EVER.

I don't think that will happen this upcoming season unless you trade him for another big (at least a lateral move). Nurk's injury made Meyers that more valuable to our squad as a dependable big man.

There are cheap options in free agency that could replace Meyers, or provide insurance at center. If they have an opportunity to dump him, do it.

might depend on if Kanter is re-signed

Bazemore is a great fit against trapping teams. He can handle the ball and you have to respect his shot. Turner can handle the ball but was not a threat to shoot so it didn't help our guards.

I'm liking this move for our current squad and coach. This will allow flexibility within their play calling because defenses will now have to respect Bazemore as a carerr 35% 3-pt shooter (as you mentioned in your post as well).

This is a silly post. We all know he ain't gonna have that high of a usage rate here... Goodness...

Is Bazemore a security blanket if we can’t sign Hood?

Maybe Hood's agent knows what type of deals he will get and told Neil what the outlook of him returning are? (Not good)
Or maybe Neil just feels like Kanter is needed more and decided to go in that direction for the MLE.
You are right about Meyers, we may need him until Nurk gets back
