Is Bazemore a good shot creator?
I hate loosing Hood, Kanter and Curry. You have a creation problem without these players. Hood can score on Isolation, Kanter can score for himself in the post, Curry was most of the time a spot op shooter but he could shot of the dribble as well. I think it's going to be a lot harder for Dame and CJ not only to create for themselve, but they also have to create for other players. A big solution would be Anfernee playing like a 6th man of the year candidate with many assists, we are going to need them.
Wait, you couldnt stand Evan Turner and now you're upset to see us upgrade him? What the hell? Do you always complain?

I'm really really really happy ET is gone, belive me buddy, i just think creation could be a Problem next year if Simons is not ready.
They wouldnt say Simons is ready if he wasnt. Bazemore isnt a terrible creator either ...

Once again, I was trying to give you credit for not being SUPER negative. This was at least... thought out and somewhat well reasoned.

Can't have it both ways Dame.

You either want to win and you want to improve the team, or you don't care about winning and you want to keep your friends around.

Green font?

When did he ever say he'd sacrifice winning for this? Wasn't Ed Davis' leaving worse than everyone else who's left or been traded?

He even said publicly that he wanted to keep Ed but hasn't complained at all about his absence.

I'm not complaining man, i'm happy he gone, but we could use a playmaking guard or someone who can create his own shot. Hood was so valuable because he could score 1on1, Kanter could score 1on1 which made live for Dame and CJ a lot eayier. If we lose these guys creation is a problem, that doesnt mean that i'm not happy with the trade

I was trying to say he wasn’t being overly obtuse this time around, trying to give him a little credit.

Normally I would expect “NEIL SUCKS, BAZE WHO? Blah blah blah blah”
Its just funny to me that the dude who blasted (much of it deserved) ET all season long is now saying it could be a mistake to trade him because we need his "skillset" (for lack of a better word).

We will need the skillset for sure, but not the player Turner, thank god he gone.

We can sign a point guard for the minimum that could dribble the ball up the court and throw it into the fourth row, I’m not pressed about it.

Based on how much of practice you’ve seen?

Or what?

I feel like the team probably has a better grasp on his ability to run the offense and knowledge of the offense than any of us do, especially myself.

Maybe, maybe not. Look I have always been CJ's biggest fan on this board but from day one I always felt Terry made a mistake by having CJ run the point. This year he did it less and I think he played better. Just my opinion. I do not want them to make the same mistake with Simons. Especially at his young age. Let him ease in to that role. This will basically be his 1st year playing, let him start out by doing what he does best....shooting. But you are right I am not in practice so I could be completely wrong. (Really doubt though)

He pulled off the trade without attaching any assets!!!

I still don't understand why Atlanta made this trade!

They have a young team. We have/had a young team that by all accounts Turner was a big part of (locker room wise.) They also don’t have a backup point guard. Seems like they wanted to do Bazemore a favor as well and put him on a good team.

Portland: B

Since committing rich contracts to Turner, Allen Crabbe (also a newly ordained Hawk, oddly enough), and Meyers Leonard, the Blazers have scoured the league for ways to improve the margins of their roster. Portland’s supporting cast was both distinctly lacking and increasingly expensive, which helps explain why the rumor mill returns to Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum as often as it does. There are only so many ways for the Blazers to improve their roster without reshaping it entirely.

This is one avenue. The kindest review of Turner’s time in Portland is to say that he had his moments. A more realistic one might point out how few those moments were, and how far, far between. The idea of trading Turner alone for a clear upgrade seemed impossible; his struggles were too clear, and thanks to his four-year, $70 million contract, all the more visible. Portland pulled it off, if largely by being in the right place at the right time. Of all the possible reasons this trade could have materialized, changes in Atlanta’s situation seem the most relevant. If the Blazers could have moved Turner at no real cost, they likely would have years ago. What prompted this deal was a match: a nearly identical salary, and a Hawks team looking to find Bazemore a new basketball home.

The Blazers are a better team for it. Turner and Bazemore come to the game quite differently—the former as a point forward and the latter as more of a classic supporting wing. It’s not a one-for-one replacement in terms of on-court responsibility, but Portland gets the better shooter, cutter, defender, and athlete in the exchange. Any trade-offs are negotiable as Portland builds out its roster for next season. Swapping Turner for Bazemore was always plausible. What’s unexpected is that it didn’t cost Portland so much as a second-round pick to get a deal done.

Without reading through this string...it appears the ATL folks believe they got the short end of the stick. Who am I to disagree!

That said, is this simply a 1-year fix, of sorts?

On a complete side note, I'd kinda like to see Robert Covington (RoCo) don a Blazers uni.

ABM! Good to hear from you! It’s definitely a 1 year fix.

I haven't seen you post in a minute!

he would have had to attach assets(s) in order to get substantial salary reduction

this is just two teams tired of a part of their status quo changing things up, both hoping for a player to do better in a different situation, although any hope attached to ET seems misplaced. He's a too leaky vessel to pour much hope into

When can we trade Bazemore again? Not sure I understand the point from either side

Anytime. We just can’t combine him with anyone else until later. I think. But from the sounds of it I don’t think we acquired him with the intention of trading him. I’m pretty sure he’s Hoods replacement.

Ah I guess that makes sense

We can trade him by himself immediately. If we have to combine his salary with other salaries it would have to wait until August 24th (or 60 days after the trade is official).
