They should get rid of divisions and just do East and West, 1-16.
i really don't understand divisions either other than making thing unnecessarily complicated. East West split should work just fine. Maybe more banners like division champions? Nobody cares about those

It literally makes me mad they keep putting teams in Vegas. Not sure why. It feels like a fake city with no fans, just visitors. It is such a blatant money grab, when these leagues could add a team in real cities with hardcore fans very easily. Stick an NBA team in Seattle, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Nashville or whatever and you would do well. Vegas is such a cop out. Watching the A's do it I think put me over the top. I hope the Raiders lose every game.
Ok? It is actually brilliant. Lots of the stuff is paid by tourists because of taxes on the strip.

Vegas is a legit city that isn't just associated with the strip too.

Whichever cities get a team, I envy their fans (especially the younger ones) for no other reason than the excitement of putting a team together, boning (oops, @Domihatin will probably think I'm talking about masturbation) up on which players are available, team nicknames and colors, etc. I have really strong memories of Portland going through that experience, and of tracking down all the info (way, way before the internet) I could find (mostly newspapers and basketball magazine) to try and get an idea of what we might expect. And then getting the players (most of whom I was unfamiliar with. They were scrubeenies after all) and getting to know everything I could about them. It was a truly cool and immersive experience for a kid (and for a lot of adults I'm sure). I hope the fans of the new teams enjoy the process as much as I did. And don't get their expectations to high to begin with......

I thought I read that the NBA wants expansion outside the US goal to be by 2030?
I have no insider info. I can't even say I read all articles about this. But last summer, I think around summer league time, when Prof X. I mean Adam Silver spoke about global expansion, it wasn't confidence inspiring.

I've seen somewhere the NBA is collaborating with FIBA to form their Euroleague with 16 teams starting next year. I don't really know what to make of that news.

As North America goes, assume domestic expansion is approved this summer. Will the Tacoma Sonics and Sin City Gambits debut in 2028 then The Mexico City Aztecs and Vancouver Ravens join in 2030? That's a lot of action in 4 years.

I think more teams is exciting and I'm rooting for expansion as long as the Blazers stay in Portland. . I just think it'll take longer.

Yeah, I know people talk about tourists at the games, but Vegas does have a metro population similar to Portland, Pittsburgh. It's bigger than Indianapolis, Cleveland, Nashville, Milwaukee, Memphis, Salt Lake City.

I don't necessarily. But I do think there's going to be some opposition to diluting 1/30th of a share of the media money to a 1/32nd share
The talent pool is too good right now, though. Caleb Love shouldn't be fighting for his life on the edge of the league. He's a decent player. I think there's talent being suppressed by not having a couple more teams to bring these guys up a rung in playing time. Exposing more talent to more time will add to the revenue.

I do think Tom will vote no if he has a vote because he loses leverage against Portland if the expansion goes through.

Or back to the vertical slice method of the 80s/90s: Pacific, Midwest, Central, Atlantic or whatever it was with eight teams each.
I thought that, my big issue was figuring out the breakdown in the East. Although admittedly, it's because I think Minnesota should go east, not Memphis, due to proximity. If it's Minnesota, then there's an awkward attempt at getting 8 teams, and potentially breaking up Philly, NY, Brooklyn, and Boston, who all just feel like they should be together.

I'm actually happy for those folks that live there. They didn't get a team for a long time for reasons outside their control (gambling industry).

Completely agree with you about Minnesota being in the east. East should be four divisions: MIN/MIL/CHI/IND; TOR/DET/CLE/WAS; MIA/ORL/ATL/CHA; and of course PHI/NYK/BRK/BOS as you say.

West would be SEA/POR/SAC/GSW; LAC/LAL/LV/PHO; SAS/DAL/HOU/NOP; and the unfortunate leftovers division of UTA/DEN/OKC/MEM (still--SLC to Memphis is closer that our current Portland to Minnesota "division rivalry")

I'm guessing expansion draft wouldn't be until 2027 at the earliest, but I'll respond with 2026 just for fun.

Deni Scoot Sharpe Clingan Camara - so that's 5 for certain.

I'm wondering if Dame would be ineligible? I'm thinking players with no trade clauses would be excluded. I can't imagine the players union would agree otherwise.

Grant and Murray I'm happy to dump so leaving them off the protected list.

Timelord Thybulle Wesley Rupert are free agents so not available.

Vit
Jrue
Yang

I'm thinking those are the last ones we protect? Could make an argument against any of them, especially if one of these guys gets an extension and is eligible to be claimed:
Sidy
Love

NBA rosters are generally deeper than decades ago along with 2way spots so seems very possible teams will be allowed to protect more than 8 players.

I like this idea the most. Have the cup be just teams in your division. Right now it's super confusing the cup teams are just random each year.

Divisions should mean something - or just get rid of them.

I honestly don't understand why anybody likes anything about Vegas. How is that place still standing? Why does anybody go there?
