I've thought for a while that the NBA should base contracts on take-home pay, so that the income tax issue disappears. The contract would change size automatically when a player is traded to account for the differences in income tax.

That wouldn't, tho, change which teams benefits. Because if they had to augment the salary based on the income tax of said state, someone has to pay that difference...meaning the owners would have to pony up the difference.

And you know how owners love to give away money...

(I've also had this thought, but couldn't get around this issue).

I’d up-level it to the league level, pre-profit sharing. Obviously none of this works because the league is hyper-capitalist and barely worth watching because of it. Once Tom ruins the Blazers I’ll stop watching.

So why would we want 4 California and 2 NY teams to have the ability to offer more to free agents than any other team in the league? Don't see how this helps small markets at all or makes the league equitable.

Mexico city seems like it would be such a colossal failure. I agree with you, something the NBA would do to make money, for sure. But guys don't even want to play in Toronto! We'd look like a free agent hot bed comparably
Mexico City would easily become the NBA's most valuable franchise.

Mexico City would make more money than Seattle? I don't see it.

Its the first US pro team (of the big 4) based in Mexico, and it is a HUGE untapped market.

I'm not saying it's what I want or think should happen, but that this is the NBA we're talking about.

I 100% believe that if the NBA expands to just 1 team it will be vegas because it's shiny and a new toy. And they'll either try to get behind moving a team to Seattle, or act like they couldn't get it done.

If they move a team, it won't be who it SHOULD be, but I bet I know one team they will try to grease the wheels on moving.
