Maybe I just have a bunch of commie liberal friends, but it seems to be coming up quite a bit today on Facebook. Anybody else notice?

No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick. If you agree, join us in posting this as your status for the rest of the day.

Really? That's making rounds on FB? Seems kind of a stupid thing to say, as I doubt those who are against UHC (not being insurance honks, or made to be afraid of everything) want people to die.

Seems hyperbolic.

if you can't beat them in fear mongering, join them :dunno:

A couple of my friends did it (of a couple hundred). It is a waste of keystrokes, if you ask me.

Of course, I am master of wasting keystrokes, so whatever floats their boat.

The Obama administration is desperate to get this bill passed, so they're resorting to tricks like this. Ain't gonna work, however. Americans are wise to the whole thing now.

How about posting something like:

No illegal immigrant or lazy ass on welfare deserves the same health care as an American who wakes up, goes to work, and pays (too much) taxes!

So all those people posting it on Facebook are actually just Obama's minions and not actual Americans?

Anyway, it's certainly sparked some interesting debates among people I follow. The dialog seems a lot more honest, civil and interesting than the shouting matches you tend to see on TV.

Well, illegal immigrants aren't getting the same healthcare, nor will they under the (poorly) proposed plan.

But what about those who do get up, go to work and pays too much taxes, but still doesn't have health care?

if you pay too much taxes, that assumes you are in a higher tax bracket, therefore you should be able to provide your own healthcare if needed.

remember: the poor don't pay "too much taxes". they do not pay their fair share.

I know a lot of people are against his plan, but I am in favor of it. I get up and go to work, pay taxes, all that and STILL have to pay $900 a month for my family's health care. $900!!!!!! No lie! I would love to put that towards my childrens college. $900! So when I hear the people who get it for free complain it just hurts!

I'm sure they're Americans, and they are entitled to make their case for the healthcare bill in any way they want to. But I suspect this facebook campaign was hatched by the Obama administration to help gin up support for a flagging pr campaign.

$900 a month. Ouch!

so...if you don't pay that $900, then who does?

you really think the obama adminstration started this?

One would hope they could simply regulate the insurance companies better to bring the cost down.

He has a higher estimation of their competence than I do right now. And I voted for the guy.

That's roughly what I pay for my wife and my son. However, I don't really have a choice under the health care plans available. Neither Colorado nor Oregon allows insurance companies to offer just catastrophic coverage through an employer. If that were the case, I'd probably be paying $200-$300 with my wife and I on a $5K deductable and my son on a full blown insurance package. Unfortunately, we don't have a free market when it comes to insurance.

However, you should realize that you're still going to pay a ton for health care. Health care has to be paid for by someone. If you can afford to pay, you will pay. Ask yourself how much the government is taxing you now and then ask how much more you'll pay not only for your family, but the people who are currently uninsured. In a few years, $900/mo may be a drop in the bucket.

A person riding around in a A6 should really not be bithcing about life. :D

The reputable organizations (CBO for example) predict that overall healthcare spending across the nation will go UP with the proposed plans.

I assume that their models are trying to capture the benefits you are referring to of trying to bring down costs with regulation.

I wouldn't say that, but I will say that I saw at least 5 of my "friends" post the exact same comment. It seems a bit coincidental that they would all have the same message, doesn't it?
