Unless I linked the wrong article, he stated that Philly should have gone for a CJ-for-Simmons deal. That flies in the face of the narrative that only a mindless Blazer homer would think CJ had any value.

Just to be clear - I agree with trading CJ, but I do not agree there was no choice but to trade him for roasted goat crap. Nor do I agree with the media people who are trying to spin the deal to make Olshey look good. I am disgusted with bozos like Dwight who condemn the deal because Cronin made it, and would defend it if Olshey had made it.

Rant over. Just pretend I am not here.
Josh Hart is roasted goat crap?

Cronin isn't doing the same thing. He's doing what he did to have maneuverability . Most of the previous GM's were stagnant in movement. Or self pitying. I'm just saying, let the man do his job. Then when it's all over, if it's not to your liking, you can jump off ship, or go wait on your hillside for the end to come.

The part of the CJ trade that maybe upset me the most was throwing Nance in there. I really thought his game fit Billups coaching style and his game would translate well to playoff basketball. Obviously he’s injured a lot so I can see that side

Context matters. On a legit play-off team he would be a useful rotation member. On a team in need of a total overhaul, his value is marginal compared to a lotto pick. The inclusion of Hart doesn't change the fact Cronin got taken to the cleaners.

You don't get it. We are Portland. We never get star players to come to us through free agency. To expect players to want to come here that way is insanity. If you think otherwise you must not have been around as a Blazer fan very long.

I've seen enough from Cronin to want him out before he does more damage.

Exactly. Why think that we can trade an allstar level player and get a star player in return? How ridiculous!

raw
Trade an "all star level" and get an "all star" in return.

Simple question, Catman, yes or no answer only.:
While I agree with you, for whatever ridiculous reason, PDX does have a history of not attracting named FA. my question (yes or no) is this:
"Have we seen the team of Joe, Chauncey and Damian, recruit?"
Yes. Or. No.

This is the definition of insanity. It does not matter who is going to try to recruit. Have you seen the way Cronin talks? I can assure you, he is not nearly the salesman Olshey is.

Not gonna happen.

EXACTLY!!!!
I agree with you.....Cronin is not the "used car salesman" Olshit was.
Players sense this. They like Joe whereas they did not trust olshit.
This I know.
Example: Joe Ingles REALLY wants to be here. ( i hate to keep pulling this card but I have talked to him)
That wasn't expected.
I believe, and yes have hope, that players will respond to Joe Cronin. He is extremely likable, and in spite of what is written in here, he does know the game and the players.
Same can be said for Coach.
This isn't the greatest group of FA's this year, so factor that in on the "high-hopes for this year scale", but the NBA really is a people business.

that's what I thought. It was just Smith talking and his opinion doesn't gauge the value set by NBA GM's. It was pretty clear that Morey had no interest at all in CJ...and he stuck to his guns and got Harden

Joe Ingles is exactly the type of player that would sign with us. He is a fringe player at this point of his career and won't get us to anywhere close to being a contender.

There is nothing to wait for on Cronin. I don't care if he is a super nice guy. Rich Cho was the nicest of all guys. Doesn't mean I want him as my gm.

Billups will also help bring players in

Joe Ingles is a better more productive player now, than covington could ever dream about.
That is an improvement, resulting from ridding roco. (in a round about way)
You have your mind made up, I can see that (as do others)..
I have fought a decent fight to attempt to enlighten folks to a less hyperbole way of observation, but I know when I am losing.
Right or wrong.

I HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE '77. I GET THE DRILL . But this downer mentality , when we haven't seen the final outcome is silly. I'm 58 and have had jobs that , even though they said i was an outstanding, never showed their happiness through higher pay & bonuses. It got me down. I wallowed in self pity at the companies that i felt , took advantage of my work ethic. Finally my daughter said, stop the pity party. Move on. That's what i'm doing now, and with the Blazers as well. Cronin is new to the job, but i like that he's following a plan, and trying to go guns at the issue. He may succeed, or he may not, but at least he's trying. It's like a pity party in here. The free agent class is called subpar by many experts. That doesn't mean that there aren't quality players that could help us. To me, the biggest hurdle to Cronin, is the pressure of getting the draft pick right. Plain & simple. We can't afford any Bowie's or Oden's, Leonard's or Collins. We need a home run. But you can't hit a home run, without getting to go to the plate. He's gonna get his chance.

One more nugget from my job....
Nobody...and I mean NOBODY is more adored in this league than Coach Billups.
I see players, coaches, and other team personnel line my hallway waiting, sometimes 10 minutes to talk with Chauncey after he does his pre/post game media.
No other NBAer has that effect. Not Pop, not LeBron, nobody....
I witness the Love.
And that's all Ima gunna say 'bout that.

He showed us with his two trades he doesn't deserve a chance. Trusting him with one of the most important summers we have in terms of our future is a fool's errand.

Right or wrong.

In theory, Nance and Little are more productive than RoCo. In reality, they are hurt too often for it to matter. Ingles has hit the age when players naturally start downhill and he is coming off a bad injury. That's not hyperbole.

I'm glad to wave goodbye to RoCo - but if there is any hyperbole here, it is the notion that Ingles can be relied on as a replacement.

How was he going to achieve, getting under the tax threshold , and gain cap room to maneuver without those deals? Did you talk to other GM's. Did they tell you Cronin could have gotten more franchise changing talent in return, and achieve the same maneuverability?

He certainly wouldn't be any type of upgrade that seemingly leaps us to contender status. The thought of that is insanity.

Tell me the players we could have gotten for CJ. I'm waiting to see.

The Blazers had too little talent to contend 9 months ago. They need more talent, it's would've been difficult to add but still a possibility.

Cronin sent out 4 starters for Hart and Didi. That's a huge downgrade of talent. Now there is no possible move to get this roster to contend. I don't need to see what Cronin does in 3 months to know contending isn't possible, and that his statement of winning with Dame soon are unrealistic.

Some fans understand this. Others will have to wait until we see the team fall short next season. That's fine. I've written off any expectations of this team being relevant in the years ahead. I'm mad Jody and Vulcan and Cronin have put the team in this position.

It's sad, but this franchise was in much better hands a year ago with shitty Olshey running it. Welcome to the first of many disappointing seasons of following the Blazers.

Cronin gave up assets to get cap room, but cap room has almost no value in Portland and no good free agent this year. He gave up assets a week before the deadline without hearing other teams offers. He gave up assets because he thinks it helped him negotiate with other GMs. All clear evidence he is a poor negotiator and should not be a GM.

Teams get a couple million of salary relief all the time to get out of the tax without giving up 1 starter let alone 4.

At this point Hart is a far superior player to Ingles, and he isn't close to a needle mover. I can't understand why anyone would point to Ingles as proof Cronin is doing a good job.

IF we win the lottery…and for this hypothetical Det takes a TPE and future first for Grant does the following roster even get HC in the playoffs?

Dame/BWill
Ant/Hart/Keon
Nas/Ingles/Winslow
Grant/Jabari/Watford
Nurk/GB3
