80% of the league have mediocre GM's & Coaches and its been that way over the last 30 years or better.

That's why 80% of the league changes coaches and GMs more often than Portland. The other 20% finally found good ones by doing what the 80% do.

Like Chicken Little, Portland fans are terrified of change, afraid that the sky might fall, as in the Book of the Dead. But the sky doesn't draft in reverse order, which guarantees infinite incarnations.

I think that trade is haunting Neil ^

Probably why he’s the most conservative GM in the history of sports.

As long as they squeak into the Playoffs he’s fine with mediocrity - job security.
agree but Bert and Jody are fine with it too. They'd have to be.

yeah to a degree but that 20% usually is a loaded team the country club has been limited 10 teams of 30 win chips last 40. Ten

Been there, done that. A whole lot of short losing seasons was the result.

Did we have Damian Lillard? Pretty sure we wouldnt have losing seasons with Damian Lillard. Pretty sure Stotts has never had a winning season without Damian Lillard either.

So which GM would you like to bring back when we get rid of Olshey?

Stotts was part of coaching staffs of two teams that went to the finals...one won a championship..same as Thibs...only Thibs only got there once as an assistant..but yeah...first time he had Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp and Nate McMillan, Sam Perkins and Detleff Schrempf...second time he had Dirk.....helps having good players...but Stotts was the offensive coordinator on two teams that went to the NBA finals....let's not forget that pedigree....and the game has changed since then for sure but success is success. I think Stotts is having success right now with a depleted roster in the toughest conference maybe ever in NBA history...theres' more competition now than I can remember seeing in my life...that's why non playoff teams can beat the Bucks or Blazers...they have talent. Parity is great for basketball...

Shane Battier was considered the smartest player in the league for a long time, he's been in the Heat front office learning from Pat Riley for the last four years. He'd be great.

However, the truth is that the Vulcans will have a much better understanding of who is out there in various front offices that would get this team to the point of honestly contending.

Nice suggestion, havent thought of him.

I think Trader Bob might be the best GM we ever had.

I'd basically agree. I think he went a little big-name crazy at the end which shortened the Pippen-Sheed window (swapping out Grant and O'Neal for Shawn Kemp and Dale Davis), but up to that point, he did very well.

Pritchard was a talented GM, but gambled too hard on injury risks and it ended up biting him. If Oden and Roy had stayed healthy, though, the Blazers could have had a dynasty.

Even a Piston fan sees that Neil is hot garbage as a GM :bored:

The Thunder fan sums up why Olshey must be fired for this team to make a leap towards legitimate title contenders.

The thing he's wrong about is that we were only close two or three years ago. We're close right now. If we could move the right pieces, get a team around Dame that works to his strengths and protects his weaknesses, we would be right in the hunt. It takes firing Olshey, Stotts and making moves that suit the new head coach's vision.

Neil is too gun shy to make a big move.

I honestly think that he doesn’t even have a plan for Trent this summer and is just hoping that a team doesn’t offer him the max. Watch him lose Trent for nothing :banghead2: you know it’s going to happen.

That's not really Neil's M.O. but it is the worst possible outcome so I could totally see it happening. I just hope he's fired the day after we get booted from the playoffs. Unless I end up happily wrong and we legitimately contend for a title.

Neil eats, sleeps, and breathes this team and how to win more games. You may not like the moves, but to think there’s no plan or he’s just “hoping” would be wrong. You can’t spend 1 minute around him to know that he cares and is trying to make this team as good as it can be. Again. Don’t like the moves? Fine. But to insinuate he either doesn’t care or doesn’t have a plan is wrong.

This is correct. Olshey is famous for sleeping at his desk for 3 years like Rip van Winkle. After Paul Allen died, the corpse-like Olshey twitched and actually made some moves. It was as if a billionaire ghost had jostled him.
Hilariouszzzzzzz

I don’t believe any of that.
