As if there were any more need.... but yet again - Olshey needs to go!
it ain't happening anytime soon, especially if he's the one leading the coaching search. think he gets two more years.

Well, if you're right, that's two more wasted years of Lillard's prime.
I would tend to agree with you but, I could see a difference in Neil today. He had to admit that firing Terry meant that everything wasn't what he thought it was. He said he would make a big swing if given the opportunity and he lumped CJ in with the rest of the team instead of setting him apart with Dame.

The unfortunate thing was to here him again say that the foundation of this roster is good enough to build around and win a championship. Hopefully his other comments mean that he has narrowed down who the foundation of this roster is to one player named Dame.

I'm not sure how true that is. He basically implied that the defensive issues were down to the coach, not the roster he assembled. I worry that he, and the Blazers, are using the firing of Stotts as a hard reset on evaluating this roster. I hope major changes are coming, but I doubt they are--I think Olshey sincerely believes he built a great roster and that Stotts mismanaged it into mediocrity.

I'm fine with getting rid of Stotts, but Olshey has done just as poorly. He's apparently just a superior salesman.

Oh I fucking hate it that Neil was able to save the job he should have lost by sacrificing Terry. I've said all season that if we didn't have the best season under them yet (going to the WCF and winning at least a game) that Neil should be fired first and the new GM should decide about who the head coach would be.

That being said, while I heard what you did about it all being Terry's fault and Neil having done no wrong. As he is prone to do he backtracked on himself and said that he wouldn't be opposed to big roster moves and is always looking for that other star to pair with Dame... a total 180 from the past where he said CJ was that star. He also spent time talking up only two players on this roster Dame and Norm... that was it. So all I'm saying is that Olshey didn't treat CJ like he is what he's been in the past, like one of Olshey's kids.

blazers definitely need someone like daryl morey, a guy whos not afraid to make risky moves

daryl morey gave his all to bring the chip to houston, while olshey is happy with the way we are, being a playoff team and he knows dame is loyal, so he can afford to stand pat

but if he gets the feeling that dame could really ask for a trade, he will go all-in in panic mode and most likely fuck up

and again....I will say I think you are reading way more into tea leaves than your should

Olshey is an asshole but he's not stupid asshole. He knows how a large part of the fan base feels about CJ; he saw how CJ played against Denver; he heard when CJ was booed off the floor. He knew he could not give the same boilerplate praise of CJ he always does. The media would have hammered him and the fans would have hammered harder. The Blazers had just lost in the first round for the 4th time in 5 years. His favorite player had played like shit; his 10th pick in 2017 had missed 2 years of play; and his big off-season signing was parked on the bench. The same post season song and dance wasn't going to work

but I believe he intends to perform the same song and dance this summer

He sure did talk up Norm, a lot and I really don't think we get Norm to sign with CJ here. I guess we'll just wait and see.

I know, and I noticed that too. I hope you're right, but I'm really cynical about Olshey so that darkside thinking says Olshey was trying to butter up Powell because he knows the ramifications if Powell walks.

that press conference struck me, a bit, as Olshey being trapped between arrogance and desperation

I agree with this last line. So all of his past loyalties, as we saw with Stotts, are out the window. I think if he can get a good player for CJ or a deal including CJ for a really good player, this is the time that he'll finally do it.

Take notes Neil:

Trading 1st round picks for role players isn't the path to building a contender.

BEST ARTICLE EVER!!!!

I don’t blame Olshey as much as I blame ownership for not seeing through this used car salesman

Do they get a pass forth last year and a half since Paul passed? Ownership since then has probably not been at thier A game considering?
Can totally see NO selling Jody, yeah?

But not McGowen or Kolde, or the media or fans…… I mean who in the actual fuck is she listening to for this guy to still have a job?

well probably all of them. But if No is the true snake oil salesman that many see him as, wouldn't he have the best pitch Jody sees, thus keeping his job?

Also. Mcgowan? Not a fan.

im thinking Jody has had meetings with all of them and NO had his salesman hat on and closed the deal?

we all know he is a fast talker.

its likely the very reason many dont like him here is the same reason he has been able to keep his job?
Just speculating here

McGowen has been great for the financial side. Rough around the edges, but good at what he does

hmm maybe im mistaken on the timeline but didnt he do all of that lame”rise with us” promo stuff?

Didnt he also get rid of m&m and now the broadcasting is sub par in the eyes of many, compared to how it used to be?

these are the main reasons i havent been a fan.
I also did not like how they took away the buffet for the club level and gave a dollar limit to the food.
The buffets were great overall and helped the lines go faster not having to deal with a payment.

Those are the rough parts. The franchise makes money on large part because he is good at his job

As a fan, rough parts indeed. :)

Arent the Blazers one of the most successful franchises in sports overall?

i thought i recall seeing something a couple years ago showing the Blazers annual profitability and we were among the top average?

shoot i cant recall it specifically now. But i thought Blazers have always been good financially due in prt to being a single sport city and a high percentage of making the playoffs?

Are we sure Mcgowan is really that good, or the situation provides an easy path for anyone with common sense advertising to be successful?

Cutting the buffet while raising ticket prices was a real fan downer and i know two people who cancelled their season club tix for that alone when it happened a couple years back.

For me and some ive spoke with, We would have gladly paid a few more dollars per ticket to keep the buffet going.
But as a season ticket holder, we werent even consulted. They just did it.

Im still butthurt as you can tell. Lol.

for sure there are issues with Seattle and the Vulcans. Probably part of the problem is they are so busy counting profits they can't see, or don't care about, the wheel of mediocrity the Blazers are spinning on

but the shitstorm they would face if Dame does demand a trade is a dark cloud on the horizon that they have to be seeing.

when viewed thru the lens of 'what-could-have-been' and 'what-should-have-been', Olshey's tenure is the worst thing that has happened to the Blazers since the 1984 draft. Portland is in a hole, and the guy who dug that hole is right there at the bottom and still digging

Considering there are 30 votes (one for each team), & you most likely were not able to vote for yourself.... then I'd have to guess that Olshey & Presti had an agreement to vote for each other.

They are the only executives who ONLY received 1 vote each. :smiley-new_shocked:

Neil should be gone. I don’t know why we are still dealing with his fool.
