Stotts defenders are left searching for anything..

This. I never thought in my life that they would rather blame NURK for the failures of a coach, rather than Stotts himself.

I never thought I would see that.

I feel like one of those classical old farmers that takes his hat off of his head, looks at the crop he's grown, and says "well I'll be goddamn..."

So be it....I like Stotts....and I think his job is safe....his record is not the record of a failed coach to me....we're a dozen games into the season...I think it's scapegoat time around here with Meyers out...he tried something that didn't work

......he's barely above a .500 record in his tenure here.

That's not the record of a failed coach to you?

It is to me. It's not like he just got here or something.

Meyers in or meyers out these last two games, Stotts is to blame. It IS Stotts, I just feel a fool for ever believing he could actually be a coach to get us anywhere beyond the 2nd round.

nope....229 and 193 as of last night....and that's counting the first season he coached when we only won 33....since then we've improved...we're in year 2 of a rebuild and now at 500....only a dozen games in...I think folks are wanting him to fail, I'm not one of them

I DON'T want him to fail. But it is the SAME SHIT year after year after year. A "rebuild" should NOT take this long to stop making the same basic, stupid fucking mistakes and errors that they've done the past two years.

But whatever. It's your disappointment to have. I came to my senses last season. It's time to part ways with him.

Look around the league....I lot of coaches are coaching 500 ball clubs...good coaches

With far less talent than we have.
See Cleveland or OKC....get back to me on that one...fact is every team is playing for second place and shuffling the deck...we have more stability and youth but this wasn't going to be our year anyway....and the season is early...I'm enjoying the team..ups and the downs...they're playing better defense overall than I've seen in a long time

Neil may be PART of the problem but Stotts IS the immediate problem. No intensity, no hustle, no fire. That’s all on the coach - yes the players have a part but the coach needs to hold them accountable including the 2 pseudo-stars on the Blazers who don’t make any of their teammates better.
Who drafted those players?

The thing is, this isn't just a this-season problem. So you're CLE and OKC examples don't mean much.

This year wasn't going to be "ours", but we should be improving upon weaknesses as well as having our church manage the game well. All the problems I stated in the OP everyone else is finally realizing, because they're still present.

Our defenders aren't any worse than Houston's but look at them. Stotts has never developed any player on the defensive end, as McCollum and Lillard haven't gotten any better. The coaching staff should've made this more of a priority, and if they did then the aren't good enough as defensive coaches to hold their jobs. Stotts' scheme is elementary, predictable, and makes other teams comfortable. His refusal to double leads to Marc Gasol, Paul George, and DeMarcus Cousins single-handedly taking over games in the 4th quarter to beat us. His lack of timely timeouts leads to extended runs from the opposition that kill us down the stretch. We saw this tonight. He lacks in-game adjustments and situational scheme changes. His offensive system relies on a lot of lateral passes and top of the key action from a center that can't shoot, which causes the offense to break down under any sort of legit ball-pressure, which is why it bogs down in the 4th quarter. He can't get the guys to buy in anymore, which was his only legit strength being the players coach that he is.
I mean, has any of this gotten better?

I didn't make them mediocre with superstars......but belittling folks opinions is what doesn't mean much...we've lost 4 games by a combined 9pts and kept a lot of teams under 100pts....I think we're stumbling out of the gate but the fact is, we've been paying more attention to defense than we have since Wes and Nico were here

we should be improving upon weaknesses as well
you have to credit our defense has improved from the last couple seasons....defense has been our biggest weakness....now we're trying to integrate the pick and roll with Nurk....it's up and down but the upside is great

Winning close games is a skill, and coaching is monumental in close games. Stotts has repeatedly shown to struggle in the stretch run of close games, and this year is no different.

So losing 4 games by a combined 9 points should not be a testament for Stotts, it's a testament against. His offense bogs down and gets extremely stagnant in crunch time during close games. It was the case when I started this thread and it is now.

Stotts has no upside. He's shown that he can't improve on his many struggles as a coach, and that will always hold this team back. The players have upside, but the situation doesn't have upside until we get rid of Stotts.

When Nurk came last year and did such fantastic things, it wasn't because of Stotts system. It was in spite of it. Now that Stotts has had time to stuff Nurk into his system, he has stagnated Nurk. Nurk doesn't move as much to come up and give screens and pic and roll it. Now nurk is taking jumpers, his under the basket game has weakned. Hes flopping and complaining. Hes basically become lamarcus Aldridge, thats what stotts is turning him into.
A good coach should build a system around his players, Stotts stuffs players into his. A good coach looks at the different things each player brings and builds a system to bolster that. Stotts has no creativity. He forces players away from their strengths. He is a nice guy. But he is not a good coach. When all the fire stotts stuff started popping up last season I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I tried to be on his side. But, I see what a cancer he is. Its time to go.

Winning close games is a skill
this starts and ends with protecting the ball and making shots....Stotts didn't have control of either of those elements....he has put the team in position to win close games so I disagree with your wanting to show last night's game as a normal Stotts game...it wasn't..he know that too....I think he's a great coach

I don't know how you can't see it
what I've seen to me is not all on Stotts...said that....defense is better...offense is struggling...I think for bad execution reasons....as to the endgame...turnovers, turnovers, turnovers and a clang fest of bricks lost the game

I have a feeling well spent whole season saying: defense is improved, but offense is struggling
Im not that optimistic offense will come around... and Im not buying that shit about statistics
